Same name on Vassal as here. I'm experienced and gladly help new players if able.
Vassal Friendly (Noob) Player Listing
I loiter on Vassal. A lot. Only played 2 games thus far, but have watched hundreds. The only reason I don't play is my speed (or lack of) on Vassal. I hate to think I'm so slow as it would upset or anger my opponent, so I don't ask for games. I'm on there right now actually.
Cheers
I just downloaded vassal last night. Not sure how to build fleets quickly or update stats. Where on Drop box are the download that covenant talked about.
I'm on Vassal, same name and all. I have a Windows computer and play in Central Standard time. When I'm on, I'm happy to help people figure out the system, harass EvilEd, or just play spaceship games.
luccros on Vassal, experienced, will help out, on Windows, EST timezone
I'm trying to get into Vassal. I haven't played online, but I've been messing around with squad building and moving units, trying to get a handle on it before I attempt a game. If any other new folks see me on-line, I'm happy to muddle through with anyone else trying things out. Vassal name is the same.

I use the same name on Vassal. I've taught a lot of players how to use vassal, and I'm always willing to help a new player learn the system. If you see me online and you want to learn please hit me up. As long as I have time, I will help you learn the system. The system can take a little getting use to, but Mu0n continues to improve things and make them easier for new players to learn and start playing.
I tried looking for it, but was unsuccessful in finding it too. I did find something from mrfroggies, but it seems a lot of the files have been removed.
Anyone else know where this could be found? Found this here, but looks like Scott's files have gone down.
On another note, updated!
Edited by jjohnson111I use the sam name on vassal, and I'm pretty familiar with it (I don't know all the hot keys). A lot of times I'm on just checking out games and seeing what people are using, but I'm always open to helping new players. I use a Mac, if that helps.
BTW: Alt on a mac is Option.
How to quickly update stats:
be sure to check out the main window's button "How To & Shortcuts". There are a number of relatively new guides there that give out all the shortcus to update the ship token stats in there. You can "spawn" those graphics (ie: click and drag them OUT of the "How To..." menu) and put it alongside the map area, or inside your player hand to keep it out of the way. If you mouse-over on them, it zooms the whole graphic temporarily as well.
How to quickly load already made ship:
it's on the same web page where you got the module. Silentubiquity has been churning out a zip file that contains ship tokens with their accompanying cards, per ship type. Unzip it where convenient for you, and perform a "Load Continuation" from the File Menu. Then, click on the step button (which looks like ->|) twice or until you get a popup that you're at the end.
For example, if you load the E-Wings, you get all 4 pilot cards associated with them, with their 4 ship tokens, all stats entered already. And the dials iirc. Keep what you need, delete the rest (ctrl-D)
Edited by Mu0nwhat is vassal?
it's a program (made in Java, so it can run on PC, Mac or Linux) that allows you to run modules out of a huge collection already put out there. Each module lets you play 1 board or miniature game. The one for X-Wing has been the most popular out of them all in terms of logged activity for about the past year and a half.

what is vassal?
Here's a Battle Report of an X-wing match played on Vassal. It's been edited to cut viewing time and some graphics are added (explosion effects, and pilot cards). You can see the game board, dice window, and chat box from Vassal, anything else is added for the video.
You can download it from the link mu0n posted, and there's almost always someone online willing to show you the ropes. Most of us go by the same names as we use on this forum and Team Covenant's.
My name on Vassal will match my name here but I haven't played a game yet but I need to learn so I can practice several lists I've thought of.
"fishwater" on Vassal. I've only played a couple of games several months ago, but I'm down for trying it again.
Edited by dungeonfishMaybe someone has seen this error that plagues my windows java apps....
It's kind of hard to explain, but it predominately happens when using drop down menus. When I use a drop down menu, sometimes the propagated menu doesn't refresh, is duplicated, or freaks out other windows in the application. Fairly hard to explain, so I haven't been able to google'foo it properly. I've reinstalled my java a few times, but it always seems to come back.
This error is not exclusive to vassal, I have also seen in happen in the Arduino app (which I'm not even sure is java based). Hopefully someone has seen this type of thing before so I can at least be pointed in the right direction.
Supongo- I've got no experience, but I've read the faq. I play the game lots, but unfortunately south americans are more into collecting ships than playing the game. Plz HALP
I've downloaded the program, but have yet to look into it or play. This thread has inspired me. Tonight I'm gunna try it. But it looks like I've got some reading to do first...
I wanna say by username is Welfstar , but I can't be sure.
it seems like more than anything, it's just memorizing shortcuts & hotkeys.
Will get to updating this hopefully sometime this weekend. Got a lot on my docket on threads to update and a Store Championship tomorrow. Hopefully Sunday! Glad to see people are finding it useful.
I'm a new player. I have just one game under my belt versus a friend of mine with just that same game.
In the next few weeks I plan to get game #2 in.
On Vassal I'm David Brennan.
Can I change it to Eagletsi? I assume I can, but I probably have to re-install.
Thanks,
Edited by eagletsi111You don't have to reinstall. You log in like usual, and in the main window, go to File/Preferences/Personal
Not in the launcher window, but in the main window once logged in.

As far as I know, you need to remove the X-wing module, then re-add it. You only get the Start up Wizard the first time you open a module. There might be another way, but I don't know it.
Nvm, listen to Mu0n.
