New Xwing S-Foils

By benbaxter, in X-Wing

I like a lot the new X-wing... And for those afflicted with Neophobia, note the curious fact that the 'new' xwing is closer than the 'classic' one to its very original concept art, back in the 70's.

The most popular theory about the new lightsaber is that it's a makeshift, improvised, weapon. Much like instead of forging an elaborate, refined sword, someone bashed a crude, cold bar of iron until it somehow cuts. Probably, the knowledge of how to create a proper lightsaber was lost to him, but regardless, the masked sith came up with his own version of a 'lightsaber'.

BB-8 (the ball droid) is also OK to me. I have the impression that it will prove more functional than it seems.

I'm curious if the new x-wings have astromechs still. There is a chance that

BB-8, is the new astromech class and they are housed inside the hull, so as not to take stray laser blasts.

I, for one, would be totally ok with this.

That's what the E-wing did with R7 units so it would make sense.

I'll be angry if the new X-wing isn't called an XJ Wing

The feminists say it needs to be called an XX wing.

XJ is the brand like T-65, it really is XJ X-wing

But less surface area surely reduces their effectiveness as radiators?

Probably makes for a better in atmo fighter, less surface means less air resistance.

But smaller surface area surely reduces their effectiveness as radiators, which I thought was the whole justification for them?

Well I was only spitballing, personally I just think it's change for the sake of change just like star trek.

I don't hate the new x-wing but I still prefer the old design.

Ooh maybe it's the XJJ Wing

Variant, is the word, I believe. And I think it's T-65XJ X-wing.

Pretty certain it isn't. More likely something like T-65F or T-85.

You don't call an Leopard tank a Leopard 2A5 except if you are trying to be precise. You call it a leopard. Same with an Xwing. Yes, designation may change, but the original name won't.

I've thought of it as a T-70, but XJJ I'll accept. :P

I'd love to see the new X-Wings on the board, but with the same stats, same dial, but a couple titles that can make the X-Wing a bit more badass than it currently is. Not a whole lot. Just a bit. Maybe a title that adds a barrel roll action to the upgrade bar. Or a boost. Or maybe gives the X-Wing a small bonus for being _inside_ an enemy firing arc.

Or maybe 3 titles, each doing something I've described above. :)

I have to wonder if the FFG will end up replacing the old X-Wing outright with this new edition when it comes out. The classic model has fallen behind due to its limited actions and durability. Those two green dice don't mean much against the increase of 3-4 dice attacks.

I am thinking it will be X-Wing 2nd Edition when the new movie comes out.

It will still be some time. Lets not rush into 2nd edition unlike some miniature games which are approaching double digits of editions of the core rulebook.
