numeric estimate of effectiveness of ruthlessness?

By Blail Blerg, in X-Wing

For those of you who have played games with it. How many hits would you say it gives each game?

Against what lists do they tend to be effective?

Is it good against Phantom 5 tie? or Fat Han?

Dash?

Should I play it on my Decimator 3 tie list?

I played a two Decimator list this past weekend against a four-ship Rebel squadron, and got at least 3-4 extra hits off of it, including a last-damage kill of Wedge. I would say it's good for plinking high agility ships, if you can manage it. I was never forced to take self-inflicted damage, either. I'm looking at ways to include it more often.

What makes it more effective? Encourage you to take it more?

Would you ever take it on a 2 dice ship that is likely to miss? (Ruthlessness needs an attack that hits).

Well, doing an extra free point of damage (assuming you hit) is nearly always good, especially if you can land it on ships with three or four agility dice. It was a lot easier than I thought to get/find enemies at R1 from each other. Putting Ruthlessness on a two-dice ship would probably not be my first choice, unless I knew I was facing one or zero agility targets.

I'm very glad Blount can't take this!

I like it when I face Biggs. Screw you Biggs.

I actually ran it on major rhymer tonight. I did 8 damage on two turns before dying.

It depends on how many you fly. It definitely scales non-linearly, in a great way.

That is to say, it does scale exactly linearly, in terms of damage. However, it also has an increasing effect on the psychological aspect: The more Ruthless you are, the less your opponent will be able to fly in formation.

Against Swarm, Synergy, or Cluster (4-5 well-built ships, like Biggs' Dags) fleets, the inability to fly in formation is more devastating than the damage.

How much does it affect builds that are not synergistic. Ex. Fat Han vs decimator and 3 ties. Focus fire here is key to take the deci down. Or deci vs 5 tie phantom. I find if I even slightly isolate a group off from the tie escorts of the phantom pack that my chances of winning that game go up about 20%

Unfortunately, fleets with few ships are able to avoid it easily. Moreover, ships with high amounts of HP and die canceling simply ignore it.
