Identify Rebel ship from TESB

By Blendwerk, in X-Wing

Greetings,

in the end scene of The Empire strikes back there is in the background some support ships from the rebel fleet. Can please someone identify some of them?

Just some generic cargo ships or transports most likely. Doubt they are warships.

They're just the little bits and pieces that Lucas decided to throw in to fill the frame during one of his countless and unnecessary revisions.

Alright, I'll have a go at it. In the top picture, the topmost ship could be a Quasar-class starfighter carrier. Again, just a guess.

They seem to have been present in the original scene

The top most ship in the first image looks to be the Lexx

Bug ships were a thing in the eu so I buy that, ahh lexx weird but fun until the last season where it just jumped the shark.

Special Edition edits?

Here's a scratch build of the Rebel tanker ship .

Wow...people hate lucas so much...they're thinking unaltered scenes are actually special edition changes now!

I know, right? It's so stupid. I can't imagine being that livid for so long.

I like the background ships.

Only a true disciple of the dark side can hate so deeply for so long, I wear my hate like a warm coat that keeps me warm no matter how cold it gets.

R.I.P young George Lucas we'll remember you as you were not what you became.

The upper-middle one in the top picture looks a lot like a SWtOR ship: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Plug-6_heavy_fighter is one similar-looking ship.

Nah, wing's not bent enough.

Funnily enough though the Plug-6 was actually one of my favorite SWTOR designs, even if it was pretty similar to the Supa Fighter.

I think the top middle one is a Dornean gunship a.k.a. Braha'tok -class gunship . Just my best guess here.

That is the most klingon name I have ever heard.

I'm amazed this has never been brought up before! There are unidentified canon ships out there!

I know the photos are from the original theatrical cut, but the lower right ship in the top picture looks a lot like a Seperatist Sheathipede Shuttle from the prequels.

The tanker is the most clear image - hopefully an über fan will point us in the direction of the wiki/Wookie page.

Funny to say but at first glance I was reminded of the H-wing that people are currently complaining about.

Sorry to say I found nothing on this list that looks like it...

I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be

some sort of double squad pod.

...but I did discover that anyone who says FFG is running dry of Rebel ship ideas is out of touch.

Take for example the M-Class Fighter. That would be cool to see next to a Y-wing.

Looks to me that the bottom most ship in the second picture MIGHT be related to the boobship in Battle Beyond the Stars (also known as the boobship in Space Raiders)

I don't see it. I believe you've got some personal bias going on there. ;)

That's what Imperial Intelligence agents called those Mon Cal vessels as well, "just transports, nothing to worry about."

**** careless fools. Sending them to Despayre was too good for them.

The Rebel scum weaponize anything .

After having watched that clip again a few times I would propose that aside from an X-wing, the fleet is at a stand still and it is the viewer that shifting perspective, moving towards the actors of the scene's location. It appears that those ships may be facing different directions and so that could be the aft engine section, rather than a bulky front that tapers to a narrow tail. That opens up a lot more possibilities, like one of the many Corellian Gunship variants, DP10 for example, but not the DP10 specifically, just reminds me of that one more from that direction. Or maybe not, I'm just trying to look at it from different perspectives.

Indeed? Well, that doesn't mean the original scene wasn't edited and revised a number of times before the theatrical release. I stand by my post. :P

Now *that* is some inspiration for a scratchbuild. Looks really easy to make something similar with a few tank hulls and some disposable glassware.
