Improved replacement

By Ghostofman, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Ok, dumb one I feel I should already know the answer to:

"Improved" talents, like Dead to Rights, don't replace the Baseline version right?

If they get both can they also use both?

So could someone with both Improved and Baseline Dead to Rights spend 2 Dpoints to increase damage by Agility and a Half rounded down?

Can't spend more then one DP per check.
But also, improved versions replace the baseline. Stands in the talent descriptions.

Thanks.

Yeah, the text of the "Improved" or "Supreme" talents will say whether they replace or add to the original talent.

There are rare cases where the "Improved" version can be taken without ever learning the basic version. This can be done with either Inspiring Rhetoric or Scathing Tirade (but not both) in the Politico tree, and Full Throttle in the Pilot tree.

I think it's also been clarified by one of the designers (want to say Sam) that if you don't have the basic version, then the Improved version doesn't do you any good.

But for those rare instances, you've really got out of your way to get the Improved version and avoid the basic version, so it's kind of a moot point.

It seems to vary from talent to talent. Defensive Slicing, for example, specifies that the improved version replaces the regular one. Full Throttle, on the other hand, seems to "retain" the original version even if you also learn the improved and supreme versions. You can only use one of them per round, but you can pick which version you use. That's my take on it, anyway.

IIRC, in that discussion, Sam also said that it probably wouldn't be a big deal if the PC wanted to us the Improved version, as long as he worked out with the GM that he would go back up the tree purchase the basic version of the talent as soon as possible.
