Nssis-class Clawcraft

By RepCommando, in X-Wing

YWingAce, I saw your post on Wave 7 hopes and thought, clawcraft!?!? Cool!

First things first, the Chiss Ascendancy doesn't really belong in either of the three factions, so despite the card background, we'd need a faction that's something like 'Independent Systems,' maybe.

Also, I'm still unsure about point costs, but I feel like these are a point or two over across the board, but maybe not... Anyway, I hope that you enjoy these :-)

Upgrade Cards:

Elusiveness (Old fave)

Wingman (Again..)

Since these were basically the Chiss Ascendancy's TIE Interceptors, it seemed only fitting that they feel similar in many respects. Jagged never reached the pilot skill of his father, hence the cap at PS7. Anyway, bring on the opinions! Thanks, all!

I believe Jagged was the son of Soontir

And nephew of Wedge. Talk about pilot bloodlines.

Oops, that's what I get for multitasking. Thanks for the catch!

Yeah.....he was never going to become a hairdresser, was he?

Focus when TL'd? Wouldn't that just be a ship nobody ever took a TL on?

Really beautiful pics!

Yay for some balance :-) On a serious note, though, I kind of like the idea of abilities that react to your opponent's decision. Suddenly, abilities can become defensive in nature and not just an automatic use every turn. Just some thoughts.

Really beautiful pics!

I try my best!

I love the clawcraft. It is supposed to be crazy manueverable. So maybe it could have the s loop. Also I don't know if I would make them Rebel though. They would really only fit into a forth faction. Something like Aliens and Conglomerates. (horrible name, I know, but I really meant alien empires(Chiss, Ssi-ruuk), other human empires(hapes) and corporations(Corporate Sector Authority) Maybe design an alliance system that could use some of scum and villiany and some of the forth faction in both main factions.

In my first post, I mentioned that the site that I use to craft the cards only has two factions (they haven't even updated for S&V yet) and that these would have to fall under what I call 'Independent Systems' for lack of a better term.

As far as the S-Loop, as I understand it, the reason that IG-88 and his 'kin' were able to pull that maneuver off was because they weren't organic beings, so the stress that that maneuver puts on an organic being didn't affect them. The TIE Interceptor is supposed to be a highly maneuverable craft with it's 3 evade, so that's why I chose to equate them in that way.

Same statline and a better dial than the Defender, at a fairly steep discount. Frustratingly, I think the Clawcraft is priced correctly, and the Defender is over priced.

What do you think of this: for the PS1 pilot, drop the evade action, and drop the price to 25.

I guess the Defender must really be overpriced seeing how the base model here is two points less for the same base stats. The action bar gives up Target Lock (a 2 point modification) for Boost (a 4 point modification) and Evade. I guess the point difference in the dials can be debated but I wouldn't say the Defender is so much better than this is being given. You may want to argue that the Defenders upgrades slots are worth something but you'd still need to spend more to make them work.

Of course the most direct comparison could be between this and the Interceptor where this is like getting three Shield Upgrades for only 10 points.

As the old, likely thrown out, legends fiction stood, a new faction would be needed.

As for the CURRRENT status of the Chiss

Ascendancy, they very well could be allied with the empire. Remember, we have to unlearn what we have learned from the Legends (formerly the Expanded Universe fiction). The new canon has the Empire less prejudiced, at least concerning humans. They new canon has female stormtroopers and star destroyer captains. Who's to say that the empire doesn't have allies? Rather than hating on aliens, the empire may just dislike the lawlessness of the outer rim.

As to the shio itself, ot is one of my favourites. I think it should be Empire. Agree with the segnor's loops in red, but with a white koiogran turn.

Statistic wise, similar to an interceptor but I would replace the evade with a targeting computer. The ship would have shields.

The previous chiss fiction had them not using navicomputers instead a beacon system, which could make an interesting upgrade. Drop a nav-buoy token. Discard the card to move your ship from anywhere on the board to range 1 of the buoy token. You may only play one nav buoy token per game. It has one hull and zero agility. (So ot can be destroyed).

As for the proposed abilities, I must say that I'm not a fan. I would like to see Jagged have an ability similar to his father and wedge. Like: When Jagged recieves a stress token, enemies in his firing arc reduce their attack dice by one (minimum zero). I would keep Shawnkyer's ability.

I'd also drop reference to the yuuzhan vong war - didnt happen, after all, and replace that blurb with reference to the nav beacon system.

Ah, new canon...

more like a canon that misfires and blows up its crew. Since the Chiss Ascendancy is a part of the old EU and hasn't even been addressed, as far as I know, in the new canon, seems only fair to keep them firmly where they are.

I also kind of thought that Jagged's ability was something like Soontir "lite," if you will.

I believe that the Defender is overpriced, as well. As far as the PS1 pilot, are there other ships that drop actions for the generics (forgive me, I'm really new to the game)?

Again, the website generates the point totals, but I do know that when you start adding upgrade slots, it gets pricey quickly. As far as spending more to make the Defender work, I think the same can be said for B-Wings and several other higher-cost fighters. As far as 3 shields for 10 points, I'm unsure as to how/if that's balanced in cost or not. Comparing it to the Knave Squadron Pilot, he has two more upgrade slots, 1 less hull, for one less point. The Empire didn't really care about sacrificing pilots (hence the small number of shielded fighters) but the Chiss had a different viewpoint and some would argue that even the most rookie Chiss pilot was equal to veteral imperial pilots.

Thanks all, this is so much fun for me!

And nephew of Wedge. Talk about pilot bloodlines.

Yeah.....he was never going to become a hairdresser, was he?

He just wanted to make hair silky smooth.

His dream was to end helmet hair for his fellow pilots.

The Chiss were allied with the Empire, so of all possible factions (other than a potential 4th, which I don't really see as coming any time soon) Imperial fits best.

I also don't like the two "when target locked" abilities. If you remove the stress then the Evade one makes sense as it stands, but the Focus one needs a rework. I'd be inclined toward something more like "If an enemy within range 1-3 spends a target lock, you may immediately receive a Focus token."

These aren't so bad, really. The abilities are interesting, to say the least. The main problem is the lack of TL'ing. For the most part, it's just as good to do a focus. Unless they're coming after you with missiles and torps, the abilities won't ever kick in.

Now, about the faction comment you made; I disagree. Scum & Villainy suits them just fine. It's a catch-all team, made up of those who are not-very-nice. Sure, they may not canonically work with some of the pilots named in current S&V, but so what? It's full of mercs and bounty hunters who will work for whoever pays them.

For Hutts and Black Sun, bounty hunters and the like, I see S&V suiting them just fine, but there are groups like the Hapes Consortium, the Tion Hegemony, the Koornacht Cluster, and the Chiss Ascendancy who see themselves as strong, independent sectors in space who pledge fealty to no group and wouldn't be considered to criminals in any way. While this doesn't fit the current scope and scale of the game, I still have hopes for something, again, like "Independent Systems" or something similar, since that would be a better fit in the SW universe.

1) This is a really boring ship. It has the best dial, the best stat line, and the best action bar. It has no weaknesses besides the point cost, which isn't even that high for a ship this powerful. And ships that are good at everything are boring.

2) The unique pilot abilities are blank text. PTL is mandatory on this ship, so any ability that says "take a stress token" will never be used.

Only PS7 on Fel? Do you remember when he and his squadron made their 1st entry and they baby sit Rouge squadron.

Besides as mentioned before. He is son of Soontir Fel, nephew of Wedge Antilles, son-in-law of Han Solo, nephew-in-law(correct term?) of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader was his wife's grandpa . I mean if that is not high PS rich environment then I don't know what is. :D

Wookieepedia notes "moderate" shields, which is more the 1-2 range. I could see it at 3-3-3-2, but full 3 is ridiculous with Evade on the bar. Combined with being able to run Autothrusters, that's nasty. I'd almost suggest removing boost and adding a pair of S-loops in place of the K3. It's also supposed to be slower than your standard TIE.

I could see Jag at PS8, but he could work at PS7 with a better ability. Something like this for a mockup:

icnHwS5FjwPOP.png

Essentially a slower but nimbler(REALLY nimbler, green hard 1 would be unique at the moment) E-wing, rather than HURR DEFENDER Imp-****.

Well I'm honored that took the idea from me, but that said, a little bit of constructive criticism:

1) I'm not sure if it should be as strong as Defender, the most advanced fighter in the galaxy, maybe 1 less shield?

2) The Clawcraft is known for being really slow (we're talking Y-wing slow), yet you have it with 5 and 4 forwards. It was un-rivaled in maneuverability because of all the little retro-thrusters everywhere, but it was slow, I'd drop the 5 forward, and maybe make the 4 a red, and trade the boost for a barrel roll

3) as for the affiliation, you can make arguments for all sides: A. Jag was married to Jaina Solo and worked for the Jedi, so it could be Rebel B. he was the head of the Empire for a time so it could be Empire C. It's a Chiss ship and the Chiss kind of fit into Scum and Villainy

I'll let you decide on that one :D It would also be cool to see an alt-pilot card for Soontir in a Clawcraft

overall great work, keep the custom cards coming!

Still think the clawcraft should have a white koiogran..
