A viable Vrill-list?

By Urrgok, in X-Wing

Here's what I'm thinking:

HWK/Jan Ors - ion turret: 30

y-Wing/Dutch - R3A2-droid - flechette torp - ion turret - munitions failsafe: 33

YT-2400/Vrill - Han Solo crew - countermeasures: 37

Got a couple of lo-PS stygium Phantoms I'd like to mess around with; what say you?

If Vrill had an EPT i think I'd be using him more often.

Leebo doesnt appeal to me as a pilot, dash is over used and the generic welll.... its generic.

I ran a fun and effective Vrill build the other day:

Eaden Vrill

Hobbie + R3A2

Airen Cracken + Vet Instincts

Rookie

Cracken firing first at PS10 giving a free action - typically letting Hobbie TL so he is sure to TL someone he can fire on. Hobbie fires and stresses his Target, spends the TL to lose his stress. Then Vrill fires at the now stressed ship to throw an extra die. Rookie is just there for some added firepower.

Worked out really well, Vrill almost always triggered his ability, and got a few 4 dice shots in, and Hobbie was almost always focused and TLed.

I enjoyed running Vrill alongside Nera with Flachettes.

I flew this Vrill build and it performed well:

46 Eaden Vrill, HLC, Luke Skywalker

54 3x Tala, Homing Missiles

I'm confused by the upgrades on Eaden on this. Eaden's ability only works on primary weapon attacks, why would you put HLC on there? And if you do fire with HLC then your chances of missing are fairly low, so Luke won't get to trigger.

With Eaden you really will want something to dole out stress like R3A2 or Flechettes or something.

I think that the wave 5 meta is won and lost at range 3. Thus to me the YT-2400 is primarily a cannon carrier, i.e. I want to be throwing 4 dice down range.

Vrills ability is fluff and I think people are trying too hard to get it to work as a primary mechanic; however, I think that his ability is worth the extra 2 points over the Wild Space Fringer as it attacks PTL ships like Dash or high PS interceptors. Luke is crew because Vrill doesn't have an EPT and can't really stack TL/Focus especially when using barrel roll to position for HLC shots. HLCs miss without dice modifiers.

Until a cannon comes out that causes stress, I am not going too try to hard to get Vrills ability to fire. It is still a good ship, though

Ran this last night and found it pretty good, beat a Dash list but lost to a Decimator list. Flew Biggs and Tarn behind Vrill and then had the A-wing doing his own thing and trying to block for the most part.

Eaden Vrill (33) [YT-2400 Freighter (32), Tactical Jammer (1)]

Prototype Pilot (15) [A-Wing (17), Chardaan Refit (-2)]

Biggs Darklighter (25)

Tarn Mison (27) [X-Wing (23), R3-A2 (2), Flechette Torpedoes (2)]

I'm currently considering:

Vrill + EI + Lando

Nera + Flachette x 2 + Deadeye + E2 + Recon Spec

And... I've got 27 pts to play with here.

My go to is a Jake of some sort, but I haven't settled on anything yet.

I'll be bringing debris fields to the fight as well.

Came up with 2 lists this morning

Eaden Vrill

Tarn / R3A2

2x Rookie

Eaden Vrill

Hobbie w/ R3A2

Rookie

Green Squadron w/ chardaan + Outmaneuver

Don't really think Vrill is a guy meant to be built around.

He's a decently priced turret bearer on a ship with possibly the most beautiful dial in the game, is safe from predator, fires before the commonly used generics, and then has a situational ability that can make him hit much harder than any turret at his price range has a right to.

He'll probably do just fine if your list happens to pack control already, if you like to use debris, want to be a real pain in the ass with Int Agent w/ that fat barrel-roll, or feel like throwing some ion (cannon or missile) on him to facilitate even more control. Tactician is situational, but at least it's cheap and facilitates his ability.

Until the rumored Flechette cannon is spoiled, I don't think he has anything that one could justify pooling a lot of points into. At most, I think the Lando + E.I ala Bohr's idea could do it (personally, would never field it for obvious reasons).

He'll also be more fun to tinker with once the Y-wing title comes out ;)

This is the list I built for 'im.

STRESS..... IN...... SPAAAAAAACE

Eaden Vrill (32)
Lando Calrissian (3)
Experimental Interface (3)
Nera Dantels (26)
Deadeye (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
Flechette Torpedoes (2)
Flechette Torpedoes (2)
"Hobbie" Klivian (25)
Flechette Torpedoes (2)
R3-A2 (2)
Total: 100
I agree that his ability isn't make or break, but it is nice to get some mileage out of it if you can. I like that it allows you to use the ship with a cannon, au natural, and let it be a bit cheaper.

I want to try:

Vrill + CM + RS

Dagger + Flechette Torp + FCS + E2 + Tactician X 2

The Bs have a chance to throw 4 stress on a ship in one go. Should be able to keep stuff pretty well stressed while doing decent damage.

I flew this Vrill build and it performed well:

46 Eaden Vrill, HLC, Luke Skywalker

54 3x Tala, Homing Missiles

With Eaden you really will want something to dole out stress like R3A2 or Flechettes or something.

Luke is probably redundant, though. Probably better to replace him with a Recon Specialist or Tactician.

Vrill Bees (100/100)

===================

YT-2400: Eaden Vrill (32 + 4)

+ Recon Specialist (3)

+ Tactical Jammer (1)

B-wing: Blue Squadron Pilot (22 + 10)

+ Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

+ B-Wing/E2 (1)

+ Tactician (2)

B-wing: Blue Squadron Pilot (22 + 10)

+ Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

+ B-Wing/E2 (1)

+ Tactician (2)

Rebel Oddball Control

>Eaden Vrill

-->Inteligence Agent

>Roark Garnet

-->Ion Cannon Turret

-->(Stuff)

>Nera Dantels

-->Deadeye

-->Fire Control System

-->Flechette Torpedo

-->Advanced Proton

-->Munitions Failsafe

I like where JoJo and Mei are going. I came up with a similar list last night but with some key differences.

Vrill of the Hunt [99 pts]

Vrill: Jan Ors, Tactical Jammer

Dagger: E2, Tactician, Flechette, Adv Sensors

Dagger: E2, Tactician, Flechette, Adv Sensors

This list piles on stress while Vrill obscures the B's and offer evade as an option to everyone. It is important that B's have higher PS than Vrill so Vrill moves first then B's have room to maneuver.

Eaden Vrill (32)

Rookie Pilot (21)

R3-A2 (2)

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

Tactician (2)

B-Wing/E2 (1)

Lieutenant Blount (17)

Ion Pulse Missiles (3)

Total: 100

X and B stress you out, Blount's Ion and Vrill's red dice take advantage.

Playing around with squad builder and wondered just how badly this would fly?

Eaden Vrill (32)
Gunner (5)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Gray Squadron Pilot (20) x2
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
Flechette Torpedoes (2)
R3-A2 (2)
Munitions Failsafe (1)
Could be super annoying to fly against.

R3-A2 is Unique, so only one per list!

Also, you want the stressors to shoot before vrill, so PS3+

I played

Eaden Vrill

Experimental interface

Lando Calrissian

Dagger/ crew

tactician

sensor jammer

Nera Dantels

Deadeye

2x flechette
