Three Ewing 100 point list... can it work?

By Gadge, in X-Wing

Having been really 'anti e wing' for ages i'v sort of had a turn around with them.

I've got three i'd like to put in a 100 point list.

The most sensible list i can seem to think of at the mo is

Corran Horn with PTL and R2d2 backed up by two 'naked' blackmoon fighters.

anyone got a better idea?

well one that fits three e wings into 100 points.

EATING A BOAT!

100 points

PILOTS

Knave Squadron Pilot (30) x 2

E-Wing (27), R2 Astromech (1), Fire-Control System (2)

Etahn A’baht (40)

E-Wing (32), R3-A2 (2), Push the Limit (3), Advanced Sensors (3)

Maybe? I'm not sure but i prefer Knaves even with Predator around, and with FCS and Eating a Boat guiding their shots, should do some serious damage!

Alright, i'll give that a shot.

Going to play the wife at that 'late war' idea of e wings vs defenders

R3-A2 and Push the Limit together, is that really wise?

Corran Horn + R2-D2 + Fire-Control System + Push the Limit (44)

Knave Squadron Pilot + Fire-Control System (29)

Knave Squadron Pilot (27)

we'll find out when im either cruising through a field of smashed up tie pods, solar panels and ion engines or i'll either be waiting for a search and rescue craft to pick up some overly cocky ewing pilots :)

Knave with Accuracy Corrector, Flechette Torpedo, Munitions Failsafe. (x3)

If you're gonna play house rules you might as well do the major juggler thin and give the generics some good fixes to viability. Generic Es go down 3 points.

Generic Defenders go down 2 or 3 points.

You can also give the ps 3 ones an EPT slot.

Gives you a few extra points for fun games.

Generic phantoms go down 1 point.

Generic decimator goes down 4 points I think.

Im not massively keen on MJs 'reworking' if im honest.

I'd like to be able to come up with a list that , if i like it and it works, i can play against anyone without having to persuade them 'honestly mate, the e-wing is about 3 points too expensive, a guy on the internet said so' :)

If you know what i mean.

I also have a wife on the aspergers spectrum... shes my main opponent and it *totally* not going to be cool with me changing printed rules.

we can make up new ones for scenarios but changing the set vlaues of parts will nark her.

Corran Horn

+R2D2

+FCS

Etahn Abaht

Knave Squadron

Sounds good. I was wondering whether a PS1 knave was a waste of time though as the ewing has 'manouvre' as a bonus, espeicially barrel roles etc that seem a bit wasted if you're moving last?

again no real experience with e wings at the mo though so guessing.

Do you play tie fighters? Academy Pilots barrel roll all the time.

Yeah but yo have tons of them so you can make those mistakes.

A knave is more expensive than two academys. I can afford with academies to take risks more in 'guessing' positioning as i effectivly have two chances for every one chance i'd have with a knave.

R3-A2 and Push the Limit together, is that really wise?

Another idea for the 2 points. Get a TL on and when the most powerful enemy attacker and use R7 to mitigate damage on Abaht. Could get FCS but this reduces his mobility and action efficiency with Advanced sensors.

Triple Blackmoon with FCS and R7's?

I ran EEE a few times; I wouldn't call it competitive by any stretch, but it can be OK for casual games. Here's some of my list ideas:

Three Knaves:

Knave w/ AdvS + Hull x3

99pts

The idea here is to take advantage of the powerful advanced sensors upgrade to make the Knaves powerful dogfighters, while increasing their durability with extra hull; a good upgrade on a 3 evade ship. It suffers badly from low PS however.

Black Boat

Blackmoon w/ AdvS x2

Etahn A'Baht w/ AdvS + VI

100pts

This list has more punch from EAB's crit ability, and has mid-low PS overall, while maintaining AdvS for better dogfighting.

Corran Chain / "E Train":

Corran Horn w/ Swarm tactics + FCS

EAB w/ swarm tactics

Knave

A swarm tactics chain coming from Corran. This list shoots early and hits about as hard as a EEE list can. It's main weaknesses are that it needs to fly in formation, and Corran is the key to the list; he is an obvious target and once he's gone the list is crippled.

A while back I ran this list to pretty good effect at my local club:

Corran Horn w/ FCS

EAB w/ PTL + R2 astromech

Knave

This list suffers a little bit from lower PS, but not excessively. EAB gets PTL for increased survivability and the R2 for good green options coming out of stress. Corran and EAB are both big threats and compete for the enemy's attention.

Those are all great looking options and thanks for the rationale behind them. that helps most of all.

If I were doing such a thing, I would auto-include R2-D2 and the other shield regenerative droid. After that, I'd figure out how to make them extremely able to disengage. Dart in, damage, dart out, heal, repeat. Death of 1000 paper-cuts.

My general sense is that R2 is so good with PTL that you darned near have to take it. There is so little red on the dial that you can actually get away with not clearing your stress if don't 100% need your action.

If you want to monolist, I'd pick either Coran, _or_ EAB. The strengths of the two pilots are so different that your squad ought to be flying fairly differently depending on which is your centerpiece.

R7 + FCS is also a great defensive combo.

If you don't want to monolist, there are some great options involving token passing that can make your squad really nasty.:)

I would love to hear how an E vs. Defender dual goes!

Ran a dual E list once, it was quite an experience.

Corran

- R2 Astromech

- Push the Limit

- FCS

- APT

- Stealth Device

Etahn

- R2 Astromech

- Push the Limit

- Sensor Jammer

- APT

- Stealth Device

It's just for ***** and giggles and is definitely not competitive.

If I were to make a 3 E-wing list it'd be this

Corran

- R2

- PtL

- FCS

2x Blackmoon

/99p

Corran for flanking/attracting and flying the Blackmoons in loose formation
