Theory and discussion regarding Xwing game and EpVII

By Conandoodle, in X-Wing

I'm not Mr. Finger-on-the-pulse but it seems FFG has been very quiet about future releases of large ships. Also, S&V seems a little light on ships at the moment. Obviously FFG will add new ships with future waves/expansions but where will the inspiration for these future releases come from. FFG is already digging deep in the EU for this faction and sooner or later ships will far too obscure for SW fans to recognise.

My friends, I take you now to the end of ROTJ. The head of the Empire has been removed, regional govenors will be fighting for power in the vacuum. Star systems will be reluctant to to support them, or join a new government which had failed not so long ago.

This would open a large area for lawlessness. An opening for an increased rate of scum .. and .. you guessed it .. villiany!

Is it possible that FFG is holding off on releasing large ships and/or designed the release of S&V because of discussions with the SW people? That future releases of large ships and S&V ships will be drawn from Episode VII?

This opens up another cup of blink milk too .. as it would mean EPVII ships would be definatey be intergrated into the current game and not added as a side game/era.

Republic credit for your thoughts ...

I'd hardly say that FFG has dug 'DEEP' into the expanded universe.

Almost everything should be recognizable to us 80's kids.

As for adding new stuff from JJWARS, well, I think its fair to say that what little we have seen will fit well with the OT era nicely.

Unlike the PT it actually looks star wars

Also in regards to the lack of an imperial huge, i'd say they are rebuilding epic rules and that is why they have held back any more huge ships.

As it stands, spending 100+points on a huge is not worth it.

That and we have Amanda coming soon....

They do look **** cool on the table though.

Who's amanda?

yeah at the mo the only satisfying non scenario game with CR90 was having a battle with one a side as at the mo they are chuffing useless against the equivalent points of starfighters.

A load of academy pilots can strip down a beefed up corvette like pirhanas around a hamster.

The biggest problem is the propensity of range 3-5 weapons that struggle to hit even moderately agile targets (2 or above) as you're either suffering +1 green from being at range 3 or worse doubling their agility.

The quad lasers are ok but 2 energy a turn to fire something as effective damage wise as an xwing... but in return, unlike the xwing is almost always taking any hits inflicted on it.

I'd love to play the Cr90 in more 200 point games but its just not worth it at the mo

scenarios they are great as you can ensure they have some things they can actually hit.

Because not announcing Huge ships 10 months ahead of time means they are slow on the announcements of more Huge ships. sigh

And they have hardly begun to dig deep into the EU. They have shown in their other games that they will dig deep and make use of some very obscure references. I mean, they made a card of a vehicle that only existed as an old toy before hand. They have hardly even begun to dig deep. While I don't know much about the Scyk or Decimator, that is more because of my unfamiliarity with Empire at War and Galaxies.
