Vicious & Vibrosword need campaign help ?

By Phay83, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

So I have a character in my AoR campaign. I encountered a mob of minion storm troopers. Meow, With that said here is the scenario in two different lights.

Here is my weapon Vibrosword w/ mod +1 Vicious = 2 Vicious

Vibrosword Melee + 2 2 Engaged 3 3 7 5 0 5 Defensive 1. Pierce 2. Vicious 2

My base dmg for my Vibrosword is 5

I read this as an 8 with a crit which was triggered by the two advantage so that would mean my 2 vicious become a 20 (1/10) so we are at 28dmg to that specific roll +1 which ignores 1 point of soak. However my GM said the 20 vicious only apply to the critical hit and do not spread over the entire the entire minion dmg base? We were both confused and would like some clarification.

Viscous and anything like it only change the critical hit roll (on d00). It dos not add to damage.

Right. The critical result is determined by rolling a d100 and comparing it to the Critical Injury table, towards the end of Chapter VI. Your vicious 2 adds a total of +20 to the d100 result. For clarity on these rules, I would suggest you re-read the section on critical injuries.

Regarding that "+1 which ignores 1 point of soak," do you mean your Pierce 2 which ignores 2 points of soak?

Yeah...

5 damage + 3 succeess = 8 damage

2 pierce = ignore 2 soak

2 advantage allows a crit to activate, auto killing a single minion stormtrooper.

Vicious 2 allows +20 when rolling on the crit results table. Which doesn't count here because minions don't roll on the critical results table.

When dealing with rivals or nemises (or PvP), then vicious matters. Remember technically the only way to officially kill a character (and not just "take them out") in this system is to get one of those very bottom "you are dead" results on the crit table. That's where things like vicious and lethal blows come in. It makes it easier to get those really nasty crit results and gives you better odds of actually killing a high level opponent.

Functionally this would take out probably two stormtroopers... Rather cool narratively. Vicious as an item quality is really primarily geared for fighting Nemesis-type opponents. For minions, the vicious quality could simply be handled narratively, in that you decapitate one Stormtrooper with one deft stroke, and run another one through. You didn't need to roll the crit, but it sounds cool. :)

So remember, vicious adds only to the critical roll, not to damage delivered.

Thank you for the help.
