Wishlist Ideas for Tie Advanced in Battle of Yavin run mission pack (Hey I can dream right?)

By Marinealver, in X-Wing

Okay so here is a few ideas for a death star trench run mission pack I've been throwing around which will include Wave 1 ships as well as tiles to make an officially sanctioned Death Star Trench run. (I have seen and tried out Dagobah Dave's run, I just think it can be simplified so you could adjust the scenario to more than just the Episode IV run like add Tie Defenders or have the S&V make a trench run)

But this is for well some ideas for the Tie Advanced. My idea for a Battle of Yavin will include 1 Rebel and 1 Imperial ship from Wave 1. So 2 different packs then in order to get all wave 1.

  • Tie Advanced 1x (unique)

Title Tie Advanced Only

Whenever you are assigned a blue target lock token you may either perform a free boost action or receive a focus token. You cannot equip this card if your pilot skill 4 or lower.

Points 2

Okay so what this does is give the Tie Advanced a boost. The focus part is not an option so even if it is stressed but given a target lock via Col. Jendon it can get a focus token instead.

Okay here is another one

Prototype Test Pilot

Title Tie Advanced only

Choose either 1 more firepower or 1 more agility at the start of the game. Discard this card whenever you are dealt a damage card. Cannot equip this card if your pilot skill 2 or lower.

points 4

So something that can increase firepower or act like a stealth device but it last a little bit longer as it requires you to get damage in order to lose the upgrade instead of just get hit.

And here are some EPTs that are not Tie specific but I think can go with it.

I Have you Now

Imperial Only

At the start of the activation phase if you have a blue target lock token you may look at the dial of the ship with the matching red target lock token.

Points 1.

It is more like an Intelligence Agent only for all ships instead of those with crew. Can be used with any Imperial ship.

another EPT

Closed Formation

When attacking you may change any hit to a critical hit for each other friendly firing arc the defender is in.

Points 3

Okay this had Maarak Stele ability in mind. This makes it easier to get critical hits in and boy does it make a swarm scary. Combined it with the Prototype Test Pilot and Maarak will be playing havoc with a damage deck.

So what are your thoughts?

I still say,

Title: ProtoType System Array

Tie Advanced Only

pts:2

Add a systems upgrade slot

Simple and truly effected.

But I like the last one too. It's an Etan Abaht ability for Marek

More like a reverse Etan, where Etan gives crits to other firing arcs Closed formation takes crits from other firing arcs.

As for simply adding a system upgrade that will still cost points and many argue that the Tie Advanced is already over costed. Not too many system upgrades give a big advantage maybe Adv sensors but that would be at least 3 points making 24 points for a 2 attack ship that doesn't arc doge as well as an A-wing.

Closed Formation looks absolutely ugly. Stick this on Howlrunner and let her entire swarm drop up to 2 crits per shot.

Hmm... TIE Advanceds....

TIE Advanced x2. Title. 1 point. TIE Advanced only.

When you perform a green maneuver, you may perform a free [boost] or [barrel roll] action.

Representing the one-off TIE-Fighter-with-bomber-wings prototype X-Wing pilots encountered in the death star missions. Trying to get some free mobility out of the TIE Fighters, since their dial is unfavorable compared to the TIE/LN.

I'm thinking of a Tie Fighter title like "Death Star Attack Squadron" just to give Tie Fighters a little more versatility without cloning an upgrade card or pilot ability that is already out there. Same with the Tie Advanced titles I don't want to clone another card if I can give it something else that is viable useful but not overpowered. I don't think the well of ideas has came anywhere close to drying up for this game.

Hmm...

Death Squadron Pilot. Title. 2 points. TIE Fighter only.
Once per combat phase when defending or attacking you may change a blank to a [focus] result. This card cannot be equipped on pilots with a skill of 2 or lower.

That's for a different pack/post

I was thinking more of like

Death Squadron Pilot

title Tie Fighter only

You may equip up to 2 different modification upgrades that cost 3 or less points. Or if you do not have the EPT icon in the upgrade bar your upgrade bar gains the EPT.

Cannot equip this card if your pilot skill is 3 or lower.

Points 0

This is basically designed to give the named pilots that you don't see like Dark Curse, Night Beast, and Gundark without making Tie Fighters A-wing test pilots combining 2 EPTs or making them budget Royal Guard Ties by taking two modifications. Still it is not a swarm upgrade as you want to keep swarm ships to a cost of 12 to 13 points per ship.

However this is for a separate pack on my wishlist.

Right, I'm a little too tired and ill to get the wording right on this, but hopefully you'll get the idea...

Advanced Targeting Computer

Modification. Advanced TIE only.

Whilst attacking a ship that you have a target lock on, add 1 to your primary weapon value.

I figure this should help boost the Advanced's firepower, whilst not being as boring as just straight giving it an attack value of 3.

It also gives me the image of Vader being so lethal in the trench run because he's able to take target lock and focus actions before each attack, along with the opportunist EPT, for a total of 4 dice (5 if we say he's closed to range 1). He can then blow the target lock and focus to ensure a significant number of those dice hit.
