Rebel Transport and Tantive IV

By Reklawyad, in X-Wing

So I've been playing the game for awhile now, and I've put off on getting these big ship expansions as I'm more of an Empire player over a Rebel, but lately I've been running the Rebel side and I wanted to see what others can say about these two expansions and if the upgrades from either or both are really needed to help out the non-Epic games.

Thanks!

R3a2 is life-changing, in my experience.

The Transport, if either. The CR-90 has very few upgrades that are useable in non-epic, whereas the GR-75 has the extra X-Wing (with Jek Porkins!) and new stuff for Rebel fighters.

I second this. The transport has a lot of stuff I use in normal games. I use Wes Jansen a lot.

The transport is great for upgrades. You get a lot of droids and pilots. It's well worth it, especially if you find online prices. The epic stuff is so much cheaper online.

I love the Tantive IV, but if you are looking for upgrades, then go with the transport. I like the Tantive to play epic games for fun. It's a great way to sucker new people into the game.

Awesome once stores get a restock I'll pick up the transport at least!

Whilst there are certainly many more standard dogfight eligible cards in the GR75 Transport, the most tournament impacting card in either of the huge ship sets hands down is C-3PO which comes in the CR90 Corvette. I would argue that it probably sees more play then all the other pilots and upgrades from the Transport combined.

This of course should not prevent you from getting 1 or the other or indeed both, particularly as the CR90 only has 4 Standard eligable upgrade cards in it, of which only 2-3 of them see significant play.

Up to you but if your in this game for the long haul you will likely get both eventually.

Transport is full of goodies and is a **** good ship in of itself. When designing Epic lists I turn to it more frequently than the Tantive.

50% is not a bad score. ;).

The Transport has 4 astromechs, one basically changing an Astromech slot for an EPT for a point, one changing left-over Focus for shields and one giving you stress to stress someone else.

It also has 4 X-Wing pilots of which Wes Janson and Tarn Mison are the most interesting.

It also comes with three Flechette Torpedoes.

If X's and Y's are your thing, this is a great box of upgrades.

The CR-90 comes with Han Solo crew and C-3PO (and two others, less used) and of course a magnificent model of the greatest ship in the universe.

If you fly Falcons, the CR-90 should be on your list to purchase.

Do you need X Wing Pilots and Astromechs, or do you need Crew?

If the former, Transport. If the latter, CR-90 Corvette.

I just use them as board decoration. I've never played them.

As an Imp player, this. They look awesome on my shelf and as obstacles for casual play, but I have only played one Epic game thus far.

In the Rebel Transport there are a lot of good cards for the rebels. You get pilots like Wes and Hobbie who is great control and upgrades like R3-A2 and flechette torpedoes. Plus there is the repainted X-wing as a good charachter model. Make Wedge stand out in fron of 3 rookie pilots. The only thing for imperials really is 3 copies of flechette torpedoes which you can get 1 in an E-wing pack and that I am glad for.

As for the Tantive IV there is only 4 crew upgrade cards for rebles that can be used in standard. You have the infamous C-3PO, as well as R2-D2 (crew). There is also Han Solo (crew) which allows you to treat a target lock as a focus token. And you have Leia Organa which is just an adrenaline rush for the entire squadron. The thing is of course the price which is $90 so the equivalent of 3 falcons or 6 small ship expansion packs.

I love my transport and new X-wings. Haven't got the Corvette yet, but I'm pretty sure there's one under our Christmas tree.

In my local meta, which is small, having the advantage of choice for the X-wings and astromechs is a really nice thing to have, however I'm becoming less thrilled with the X-wing as a ship due to a combination of them dying easily compared to more point effective ships or ones with more movement options (or turrets). I think the Rebel Transport is a great ship to use in epic games, and like everything else in this game, requires thought and practice to get skilled with. The Tantive IV is the only thing I've yet to see at all. They're both a lot of fun, but unless you really think you want to use them and their cards on a semi-regular basis it is potentially a purchase you can skip. If you like them, great!

I picked up the transport first, just because I wanted the extra X-Wing and pilots. The mechs were a nice plus. Flirting with getting the corvette now, since I have enough loyalty points racked up at my FLGS to make it worth my while to get it. After shipping etc., I don't think I can get it as economically through MM or any other online retailer. I'm still new enough to league play, that I'm not in a great hurry to run Fat Han yet, but it'd be nice to be able to when I want to. I'm forcing myself to learn to maneuver small ships first.

Ill probably be picking up the rebel epic ships once they announce the imperial's ones. Though porkins is tempting me to get the transport sooner.

I own both. Get the transport. Even in epic play, I tend to leave the corevette on the shelf, but the transport is great in an epic game. The corevette is.....difficult. And I love the look of that ship, but It's about the last thing to bring to the epic game IMO

Our group is in love with them both. We get an epic going about every two weeks if not more and are dying to get a tournament or league going for the format. They are both great and stupidly well balanced to the game, even if it is a little easy to get carried away on their upgrades LOL :P So buy both and play Epic! That is what they are mainly there for.

Most recent stories from the epic front's involve my Dash getting three one shot kills on Tie Interceptors in the first three turns including the last, a Hull+Shield upgraded Soontir Fel with focus and evade up. Go Jan Ors :D And then when he, Keyan, and a Green Squaddie took out seven TIEs and only the A-wing had been hit and was hanging on at one hull, after intercepting their run for the 'Vette. The 'Vette went down that game under withering Fire and Ordinance but had already bought enough time, and with it's two X-wing escorts dealt enough damage: destroyed their Shuttle, crippled the Bomber group, and had the Decimator down to like two hull leaving only the untouched TIE advanced group a realistic threat. That with the away group coming in off their flank the Imperials were put to a deadly route even with their strategic victory, giving tactical victory to the Rebels. Love this game! :)

What's better than running over Soontir with a CR-90?

Nothing.

The transport is an easier entry to epic play and is great to ram with.

Running over Vader, Kath Scarlet, and a Shuttle. Can anyone top that?

I actually have that one on video. Part 2 is the firespray and shuttle.

Ionizing a Fat Falcon so that it is paralyzed into the CR90's movement range.

I jammed an untouched Whisper with a GR75, then crushed it the following turn. Winning!

And now your winning with transports! Seriously Every time I fly the stupid thing I get more kills with it pac-maning things then any of my fighters get. Must be doing something incredibly wrong, or hilariously right! ^_^
