OT: My next SW cosplay costume, opinions

By Gadge, in X-Wing

Right im sure everyone knows i have a film standard Tie pilot costume but while i LOVE tie fighters i fancy something even more iconic so i'm saving up for a second outfit.

I've got the following ideas all with pros and cons. what do you guys think would be coolest.

1 Vader...

pros: im tall and reasonably well built so it could work, it doesnt seem *that* expensive and its iconic

cons: It wont be cheap and it will be **** warm and as awkward as the tie pilot

2. Stormtrooper

pros: its my honest fave to do, its iconic and classic

cons: its going to cost me at least a grand to do it well

3. Rebel pilot

Pros: be nie to have a costume for both sides, i have a lot of the basic bits like rank cylnders, boots, gloves etc from my tie costume, it would probably be the cheapest in the list so far.

4. Prequel jedi

Pros; cheap

cons: its a bit like wearing your dressing gown to a party and not as iconic

5. Boba Fett.

Pros. its like boba fett man!

Cons: it will cost me a total fortune and i think its out of my price range

6. I wait for EPVIII and do a new stormtrooper

Pros: i have time to save up, its going to be a 'look' for the next seven years

cons: i've got to wait ages for enough pics to be able to see how to make it, they might end up being crap films and it might be like doing 'clonetrooper' now... its allright but its not as iconic as 'stormtrooper'.

I know its probably going to be OT stormtrooper or rebel pilot depending on budget.

I'm quitting WWII german re-enacting and US re-enacting and sticking to British units next season i reckon so selling off my genuine german and US kit would generate a lot of money (not so much the US kit but my german bayonet alone is worth about £100 and i've original belts, gas mask containers, webbing etc etc and most my US kit is original apart from my jacket and pants as i dont want to wreck them battle re-enacting.

So i'm selling up a lot of historical kit to buy cosply stuff... i know the longer i hold on to 40s stuff themore its worth every year but im getting too old to be spending three days living ina trench at events anymore and deifntiely too old to battle so i'd rather sell it now and get good star wars kit for conventions.

Sooooo what do you think i should go for out of those six options. No point suggesting anything else as those are the ones i want to do. Dengar was a close '7th' but if im doing dengar i'll do snowtrooper as his kits almost all snowtrooper kit with a repaint and some baggy white clothes!

I'd say Rebel Pilot, then save up money for the Eps 7 Stormtrooper.

A lot of people have spent a ton of money on ST armor, so another one of those isn't that big of a deal. But being one of the first to have Eps 7 ST armor would be pretty cool.

Personally I'd roll with Boba Fett, but with personalized colors. Don't be him specifically, be a Mandalorian all your own.

That said, Rebel Pilot would look really good. I assume you mean E4 kit? So neither of the alternate suits from E6? If so, see what you can do about adding the rebreather. It turns up the costume to 11.

Orange jumpsuit, white bib, black harness, helmet. Done.

Oh, and a GREAT BIG BUSHY MOUSTACHE. Go Biggs or go home.

Id say Boba, but as Levi Porphyrogenitus said, do different colors, be your own original Mandalorian.

Do ep 7 Chrome Storm Trooper.

You might have missed a question I asked you.in a differnt topic so here goes, are you in the 501st? Do you know why ace/armored TIE Pilot gear is never used as far as I can tell?

why not Jabba? lol

Slave Leia

pros: Cheap, easy, classic look, good air flow

cons: putting up with drunk nerds hitting on you

Do a Tycho style TIE pilot suit, I think it is supposed to look like the 181st Squint uniforms, the Imperial Flight suit, but with the X-wing pilot style white vest instead of the armorplate. 2nd choice would be a Rebel Flight suit.

I've always wondered if one could add "air conditioning" to a Vader costume. Sure it may not be cheap but if you could make some forced airflow it would help keep you cool. It would also allow some of that hardware to actually have a function instead of being purely cosmetic.

Depends on where you buying.

If I may ask where you getting them from

I'd say boba fett, but if it's the ruby's version I hear it's about 600 dollars overpriced

Im actually putting an air fan into my tie suit as with a balaclava on and padded bucket it gets really warm!

Doing the Jedi thing could be cool. They didn't actually wear their robes all the time, so building tunic/pants/saber combination could be awesome. You could do a recognizable, iconic Jedi and only add the cloak later if you wanted.

Also: better for layers. It might be warm, it might be cold, but you have _options_ that troopers, Vader, and mandelorians just don't.

SW Holiday special Boba Fett!

You see overly warm 'costume' is a pig for me as my med for my spinal injury (oxycontin) mean I overheat really easily and dont feel the cold. I can wear shorts in winter and just not feel it as its basically like being on heroin.

its totally not cool stuff but its better than not being able to walk.

As you can see oxycontin also means i totally forget to type the correct type of word, pluralise things and miss out connectives as my mind gets clouded as i type.

Sometimes i even forget to finish complete sen

:)

Oh man, I hear that. I take some medication for ADHD depression that has unfortunate side effects. It's basically because humanity is only really guessing about the exact problem, and knows that "this seems to work, but we're not sure how to narrow it down and still be useful".

So, you know, hurray for science of today, but I can't wait for the science of tomorrow.

I have the solution!

Pro: very cheap, not warm at all.

Con, you might need to explain a bit who you are suposed to be, or take a trip to Chernobyl/ eat a lot Mcdonalds :D

McCool.jpg

All you'd need is a pair of tan boxers and a flute. :)

yeah, i'd love it if they could fix my spine. I've had surgery on it which solved the really serious inury/wound but the scarring the surgery left does as much damage to my sicatic nerves and causes as much pain... its just not going to parylse me or stop my waterworks from functoning... which is like you know a step up.

Its never fun when someone tells you you need 'emergency spinal surgery' that 'might leave you unable to walk' :)

I rckon i could totally work on that physique and loan the wifes flute.... actually her flute costs more than a stormtrooper outfit its insane how much a decent one costs!

And here i tought it would be cheap.

Hey how about doing Vader/ storm trooper/ something else based on the Ralph mcquarry sketches?

Storm trooper with lighsaber and riotshield. for instance.

Ouch that's rough man

Out of the six options, I'd choose a Stormtrooper, especially if you can have a voice distortion in it. *Kcht

Second choice would be Rebel Pilot

Can't you take some of your German WWII stuff and make an Imperial Officer?

Of course, my personal favourite would be a Scout Trooper, I just love that helmet. If only I'd bought that Gentle Giant statuette. ;(.

my wife does imperial officer.

My german jackboots are used for my tie pilot kit anyway :)
