The Force Awakens Opening Crawl

By Imperial Advisor Arem Heshvaun, in X-Wing

Lol you didn't read my comment..... I never said war would end, I said THAT particular war should have ended a LONG time ago. Either way, it still doesn't sound very exciting.

Don't ever say, "lol you didn't read my comment.". No, he did, your comment just wasn't very good.

Yeah, the war would persist. Think about how gigantic the galaxy is.

Of course Luke is a myth. Everything he did, while known to be fact, was absolutely legendary. And where is the last Jedi going to go after RoTJ? Hiding, I expect. After being regarded as responsible for both Vader and Palpatine's death, do you really think that Luke would ever have a safe day in his life again? I should hope not. So what does he do? Run off into obscurity. That's what I'd do, at least.

But really, consider how big the galaxy is, and how utterly f*cking retarded it was that The Rebellion just... took Coruscant directly after Endor. That was THE dumbest part of post RoTJ EU. I'm glad that appears to be f*cking dead because it was beyond stupid as hell. So, the rag tag Rebellion tips over the establishment briefly, gains significant power but face the facts here...

They were legitimately seen as terrorists by trillions of people. They will never be as lauded as the EU expects us to believe they were. So The Empire would always have backing.

Also, it's only been 34ish years.

You tell me.

When JFK was killed, did The United States fall over and stop working?

34ish years for a Rebellion.... That's a REALLY long time. You're not Luke, he's a freaking jedi, anyone else in the Rebellion would have the same death mark on their head, Leia, Mon Mothma, and Wedge especially; Han had one but he didn't just go and hide. also just take Coruscant??? That's two years later! TWO YEARS!!!!. Also not trillions of people, because most aliens or anyone that wasn't from a core world would have a sense of what's going on. I'm not going to make a comment about JFK because I don't want to get into a political argument, but the sudden death of a president isn't quite the same as the sudden death of a dictator with no heir, and I never said it would fall over and stop working, but 34 years is a LONG time to be fighting a Rebellion. I know you are vocal supporter of new movies, but I'm not. I never asked for new movies, I just wanted to keep reading my books, and playing my games.

If you think 34 years is a long time in a galaxy where races live varied lifespans, many of them long, and ignore the fact that 34 years isn't relatively long at all in our reality...

...Then there's honestly nothing more I can say to you. because you're refusing to acknowledge that 34 years is not a very long time. Especially in a world like Star Wars.

The source of the material we are using to make our speculations said that principle photography was wrapping up, this has been now confirmed.

Sweet! More Sci-fi!

I'm hoping this isn't a real spoiler, mostly because:

Decades of unending war mean that the final battle against the Emperor was kinda meaningless.

It reeks of "We saw Rebels, here's tie ins!"

There aren't mentions of X-Wings or A-Wings striking from a secret rebel base. :)

Likewise. I don't want my happy ending of Jedi dashed both in terms of what happens to specific character and to the Galaxy as a whole. And I'm really hoping they can avoid some of the biggest problems the EU had and 1) not have the new villain be a Sith 2) having the new villain more powerful than Vader and Palpatine.

Also, to those arguing about how long wars in Star Wars last, keep in mind The Clone Wars only lasted three years

Also, to those arguing about how long wars in Star Wars last, keep in mind The Clone Wars only lasted three years

I think this has alot to do with the fact that Palpatine, being the mastermind behind the war, was manipulating events for his own advantage and having a long drawn out war would be detrimental to his plans. He wouldn't have had the support he needed for the formation of a galactic Empire if the war had dragged on for too long.

On top of that it was 3 years of non-stop conventional warfare across the galaxy between 2 factions with immense resources to fuel their war machines. Compare that to the insurgency style warfare of the Galactic Civil War coupled with the untimely death of Palpatine and I can see a reasonable argument being made for a war dragging on for 30+ years after ROTJ. At this point we don't really know what happened in the intermittent period between EpVI and EpVII; they may have had lull periods between the fighting or there may have been a period of cold war between Rebels/New Republic and the Empire where little actual fighting took place but both sides continuing the conflict through proxy wars and clandestine operations.

That being said the ST does feels like a darker universe compared to the EU; the Rebel Alliance not as victorious over the Empire as we were lead to believe and the latter being more resilient and perhaps more competently lead after the death of Palpatine, who left behind a lasting legacy which is a testament to his genius.

I think this has alot to do with the fact that Palpatine, ... left behind a lasting legacy which is a testament to his genius.

It takes genius to recognize genius.

Maybe its time to change your character symbol Wraith.

I can respect a man's genius without agreeing to his methods:)

It doesn't really matter if it isn't very realistic if the Empire collapsed after the death of the Emperor. It suited the kind of story themactically, which is more important... undoing that kind of misses the feeling of Star Wars.

Also, much of it was before it was decided that ships could cross the galaxy in mere hours. If the Empire was more distantly governed (due to travel time constraints) it becomes much more realistic that factions would break themselves off with the death of the Emperor to try and form their own kingdoms, leading to the infighting that was explained to cause the Empire's major collapse (and allow individual planets to break free and fight off the Empire in their own little areas).

I'm guessing that he isn't even 24 years old, so 34 years seems like an eternity to him.

But that doesn't suit a new trilogy. What else would be the bad guy? I rather they not make up something silly like the Vong and go with the Imperial remnant/Sith as the antagonist.

now you're just insulting me for the sake of insulting me.

I really don't care what anyone else thinks, because everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but if this is the real crawl, I'm less than impressed, and with that, I don't feel like arguing pointlessly any long about movie.
