The sad part about Star Wars fandom is that we are in this messed up situation of:
"I love George Lucas because he made star wars and I hate george Lucas because he ruined star wars."

Watch RedLetterMedia's review of all the prequels. They are really lengthy and in-depth but also funny. A bit sad too...They point out all that is so **** wrong with them.

Ugh, I hate those reviews SOOOO MUCH!
I said ALMOST please read my postjust a couple of low points in IV - VILuke Whinewalker moaning through all three movies........Crappy effects......your dig at me for the story line is hilarious because none of the movies have a remotely interesting story it's a very basic and predictable story. (that's not what Star Wars was ever about)The characters are as interesting in I-III as they are in IV-VIYou have simultaneously forgotten everything that is crap about IV - VI because you watched it while you were a kid rather than truly rating it against the new ones.you love them because they are classics rather than because they are independently good and star wars was always good because it fired up the imagination you prove my point in your own. It's like comparing Baldur's gate to Skyrim for me I still love Baldurs Gate more than Skyrim, there are many things much better in BG than Skyrim but there are many other thinks Skyrim just lassie slaps down out of existence. Do I love it more NO BG will always be my best game ever but I can admit that games like Skyrim have a hell of a lot to offer in their own right and are just as good if not better.
You have me convinced that your just trolling.
Your seriously trying to compare the mostly fluid and natural character interactions of Luke, leia, Han, Chewi, 3PO and R2 with who from the PT??
Liam Neison is a great actor but is character is so flat and hardly does anything. A very badly missed opportunity.
Same can be said for Ewan Mcgregor, not until the third film does he get to actually act.
As far as effects go models trump CGI.
Just look at Alien/Aliens, Event Horizon, Return of the jedi, 80's Trek, just look at when the enterprise D crashes on the planet in generations, so much cooler and real looking than CGI
Obi is as good or bad as Qui ever was in IV he is just playing an old man the acting is awful I have seen better acting in soap operas.
it doesn't even make sense why Obi waits for Luke to be watching for him to be struck down so what he can HATE Vader that's a good start. That on it's own proves to me that the story changed between IV and V about what it meant to be a jedi. rather than Obi starting a feud Luke would have to avenge.
that whole fight scene between Vader and Obi CGI is lame where you see the sticks they are using ends and it's two old men touching sticks apart. Compare that to the final battle between the two in III
Don't say they are old men it makes sense because so is Count Dooku and he had an epic fight scene in the prequel.
the CGI comments MAKE MY POINT AGAIN. You have to compare the two movies directly the effects in I-III were significantly better than IV-VI. The effects were good for their age but a direct comparison is I-III in those areas are better. Look at the duelling as well VI is poor compared to some of the excellence in the new ones. VI you feel like the shot is being directed to the saber in I-III you feel saber is moved up to deflect a shot at the force user.
CGI allows Lucas to make the world seem all the large and more plausible rather than closed off scenes, that's what Sci Fi is about and especially a space opera
I just can't stand this knee jerk reaction to hating I-III they were not perfect but neither were IV-VI but you instantly forgive IV-VI because of the fact you grew up with them.

They are a fun watch that make what could be a very dry subject entertaining, you are not required to agree with them but despite being a comedy review it still goes into alot of depth about where it all went wrong.
Lilikin brings up some good points. I don't hate the prequels and they do some things better than the original movies.
The light saber fights are much better for starters. Episode 4 light saber fight is very anti-climatic. Its basically two guys swinging the light stick a few times and changing positions like they are fighting in a closet.
Luke is very whiney like Anakin and most people tend to forget that.
Ewoks are annoying like Gungans and singlehandedly bring down the Empire.....really?
Did we really need two movies based around a Death Star?
Was is the deal with Lando wearing Han's clothes at the end of Empire?
The acting in Episode 4 is very wooden. Lucas was known for this prior to the prequels. Empire and Jedi was much better, but they weren't directed by Lucas either.
What people are not getting is the OT lightsaber fights are operating on several levels it's not just two old foes fencing it's also a contest of wills and philosophies, PT fight's are just empty and soulless fights for the sake of fights with none of the subtext that RotJ end fight brings with it.
In face they go on so long they actually manage to make the ligthsaber duel boring, or in yodas case outright silly.

It makes perfect sense. If old Ben just let Vader kill him right when they confronted each other, then Vader wouldn't be so preoccupied with the fight and would have easily stopped/killed Leia, Luke, and Han. Once Ben realizes Luke is there watching he understands that his only option is to sacrifice himself to become a force ghost and tell Luke to GTFO of there.

The battle should be better, it has 25 years more technology to enhance it. That's like comparing a 1969 Dodge Challenger to a 2014 Toyota Prius. The Prius is light years more advanced and a better car than the Challenger, but given a choice between driving the two on a weekend drive. Challenger all the way. Its not even close.
Don't say they are old men it makes sense because so is Count Dooku and he had an epic fight scene in the prequel.
It was flashy, but I would call it more epic. I reality the saber fights in the Prequels don't make that much sense. You would utilize a saber much like a katana. You would make quick and direct strikes. You wouldn't be doing a bunch of non-nonsensical back flips and twirls.

Practical effects > CGI Nothing takes you of a movie more than overuse of CGI. The prequels have CGI in literally every frame. I don't even know what you mean with your last point.
CGI allows Lucas to make the world seem all the large and more plausible rather than closed off scenes, that's what Sci Fi is about and especially a space opera
It seemed pretty **** large in the OT, without the insane use of CGI. Pretty much every battle is grand in scale.
I just can't stand this knee jerk reaction to hating I-III they were not perfect but neither were IV-VI but you instantly forgive IV-VI because of the fact you grew up with them.
No IV-VI weren't perfect, but they are better than I-III. I'm not that old either I was 13 when Phantom came out and I thought it was stupid then. I didn't need the internet to tell me they were bad. Whatever, you like what you like. But arguing that the PT holds a candle to the OT is just silly.

No thats sword fighting, not the baton twirling trampoline jumping fighting from the prequels.
Anakin is way more emo and anoying: "i was said to be speshul but the council dont like me whine whine". geez!
Atleast ewoks didn't have jar jar binks. Originaly lucas intended the battle on endor to be technology vs primitives, originally it was gonna be wookies, but by then Chewbaca had been shown to be very good with technology, so they needed a new primitive race.
Yes. yes we did. Did we really need two movies about droid armies?
Lando literally had to flee cloud city with nothing but the clothes that he wore. Guy probably went, "Ok this cape is starting to smell, Han ol buddy, i'm borrowing your duds!"
