My repaints.

By Eggs, in X-Wing

I've just finished my first couple of repaints, and it's fair to say I have the bug, so I thought I'd start a thread for sharing them all, as and when they get done...

First up is my HWK. With Scum and Villainy around the corner, I didn't want no scum flying my crow, so I picked up another one to experiment on. Nothing too fancy, just a change of main colour, and repainted the red accents a bit dirtier.

I also picked up a third E-wing on Amazon's lightening deals, so I whipped off that top cannon, slung it underneath the nose, and attempted R2-D2 with green stuff on top (I like flying Etahn A'baht with R2-D2). Not so happy with the paint job on this one, and may redo the wings with the yellow stripes running all the way along.

That's it for now. I'll get some nicer pics next time I have my light-box set up. I currently have an X-wing being re-done as Luke's 'stealth-x', and then it'll be a firespray for S&V.

After that, who knows, but I've started now, so it'll be hard to stop...

I love the HWK, less keen on the E wing.

The gun reposition makes sense but your HWK is a tidier paint job.

I think yellow would have worked better on a black 'stealth' ewing, im not a great fan of metallic ships.

Very good all the same.

Also dont the astromechs in ewings have a purpose build compartment so they are not a vulnerable target like they are on an x or Y ?

Yep. Not the most entertaining or dramatic place to put your astromech, but it probably makes more sense than dangling them out in space.

I also agree with your assessment of the paintjobs. It could be the lighting, but it looks like the HWK is a lot cleaner than the E-wing. Yellow is a tough color to work with, generally speaking.

The HWK is definitely a tidier paint job. I've always sucked at black to be honest, but I wanted to have a go at something hornet-like, but that's not really how it came out. I stuck the astromech there because it looked a bit barren once I'd removed the gun. The lighting is washing out some of the highlights though. It does look a little better in meatworld than on screen.

Still, feeling inspired to push on and do some more.

Yeah i mean please take it as constructve criticism.

They are both *very* good. I think im an ok painter (painted for white dwarf and GW books once or twice in my time :) ) and i was judging them by my standards.

Personally if black worries you do super dark blue. Like the way supermans hair is in old comics.

Lets you 'grease' wash the crevices black, add hard 'white' edge highlights but still looks black from a distance and goes well with yellow.

Yellow is a pig to work with, especially over a dark base. I was going to do a 'lamenters' space marine army once but gave up after a few trial models and a smooth clean coverage and decent shading was eluding me to be able to do it consistantly for 40 models.

I've probably got about 1000 painted toy soldiers minimum, about three are in yellow that probably tells you something :)

Please dont let me put you off, you've got skills there. I just think the ewing isnt your best. The HWK im jealous of.

And i totally agree with the engines.

nearly *every* xwing model i have to do some work on the engines. I dont know why FFG dont put engine glow on the prepaint.

its not so bad with xwings and a wings and stuff but the huge grey flat spaces on YTs, Shuttles, VT49s etc look awful if you dont 'light them up' with paint.
