Flechette Torpedoes the phantom killer?

By indyXwinger, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Card wording states, 'After you perform this attack, the defender receives 1 stress token if its hull value is "4" or lower'.

So the way I understand this is that whether or not this attack actual hits, a phantom (hull value of 2) will always receive a stress token...meaning no ACD, correct? Under the assumption I can attack first...

Yes.

If you attack a Phantom with a Flechette Torp it gets a stress regardless of if it hits or not. If the Phantom is not cloaked at the time, it couldn't cloak until it cleared the stress. Which would be next activation phase, assuming it did a green maneuver.

A stressed Phantom is not a happy Phantom.

I've been playing with the idea of Nera w/Deadeye as a good phantom hunter.

Roark Garnet would like to offer you his services. ;)

Fun list I like flying:

Nera + Deadeye + Flechette Torp

Roark + Ion Turret

B wing + FCS

Rookie + R3-A2

Just remember that ships with hull higher than 4 are not affected even if they taken damage to where they have less than 4 hull left.

So putting a hull upgrade on a HWK-290 will make it immune to the stress effect of that upgrade.

But I still like flechete torpedoes. I can get 2 of them for the same points as a single proton torpedo.

So, what I'm seeing here is...

Nera Dantels
+ Flechette

+ Deadeye

Roark Garnett

+ Ion Cannon Turret (because Blaster is terrible and Autoblaster isn't out yet)

at 53 points thus far.

Now the question is: How do we manipulate this so that it defeats non-Phantom lists as well, and is also very difficult for a Phantom list to destroy?

Nera is becoming a favorite for Phantom hunting. I've had fun just running her with Deadeye and APT. Flechettes are great for Phantom hunting, and if you put them together..,well, that'd be a heck of a shot.

If it is Fat Han's you fear:

Nera + Deadeye + Flechette

Roark + Ion turret

Bandit + IPM x 3

Swarmy and it can ionize fat Han's off the board.

"Keep your stinking 8 hull and 5 shields- leave my battlefield!" :)

I am really surprised that no one suggests:

Nera, Flechette Torps, Munitions Failsafe.

If you don't hit, you keep your Torp and still get to stress ships with 4 or less hull turn after turn.

I mean that's really bad for Phantoms. If they are cloaked, chances are that they can evade the hits. I would also not insist on hitting too much. If i can stress the phantom for multiple turns my other ships can kill it pretty easily!

That's a lot of points to spend on a ship that's locked into one action and may not be doing too much damage (and loses its main weapon the moment it does actually do damage).

Flechette Torp + Failsafe is 3 points. Not bad when it gives you 360 deg range 3 stress on anything under 4 hull.

When you do, you still have a PS5 B-Wing. It's not like a Y-Wing that lost it's Ion. Also with 5 shields, when you do start taking crits, you're in trouble.
