Women's lib hits the Empire

By mikeespo, in X-Wing

Okay so now we should just call the Imperials the good guys.

... What have you called them??

Hasn't Star Wars always been a tragedy in which terrorists take apart the galaxy's last best hope for law, order, and style?

nope, those were the prequel movies that we want to forget.

It was about the struggle between the light side and the dark side of the force. It was the "Heroes Journey" of a young Jedi, and a battle between technological achievement over human will.

Aside from your distaste for the prequels, you've clearly got a perverse set of morals.

This "hero" of yours is a wild anarchist, fighting against a legitimate government. He kills millions of courageous troops serving on the front lines, associates with drug traffickers, and then manipulates his father in a moment of weakness to assassinate the elected administrator of the galaxy.

Some hero.

oh boy wimminz affirmative action in star wars

Keep in mind as well that any generic/unnamed pilot (Dagger Squadron, Wild Space Fringer, etc) can be human, alien, male, female, androgynous, depending on what you want your squadron/Star Wars to be.

Edit: Also, it's never really a bad time to ever bring this up, especially when the discussion can be more or less as positive and civil as this one seems to be. :)

Now that you mention it, I'm surprised that Ru Murleen hasn't got her pilot card yet...

Y'all are the problem.

Haha, as a phantom, or speeder bike pilot?

I feel like the same can be said of Phantom pilots, generic or otherwise.

As far as the game goes, I think the Empire has had more female pilots than the Rebellion.

Are there ANY female Rebel pilots in X wing?

Just a couple of thoughts,

We are an Empire ruled by the majority! An Empire ruled by a new Constitution! An Empire of laws, not of politicians! An Empire devoted to the preservation of a just society. Of a safe and secure society! We are an Empire that will stand for ten thousand years!

Wasn't it so until the Rebels began stronger attacks that martial law was required?

I encounter civilians like you all the time. You believe the Empire is continually plotting to do harm. Let me tell you, your view of the Empire is far too dramatic. The Empire is a government. It keeps billions of beings fed and clothed. Day after day, year after year, on thousands of worlds, people live their lives under Imperial rule without seeing a stormtrooper or hearing a TIE fighter scream overhead.

Just sayin...

He's back!

I have no problem with there being female pilots, but I agree that in the movies there are no women depicted in the Empire. Additionally in all the books, novels, comics, etc., it has been established that women, along with Aliens, are under represented if not openly discriminated against. An example of this is Admiral Daala, who even disguised that she was a woman in order to compete in simulator tests. But that is not represented in this game. And again I do not care, but it feels wrong having so many female pilots.

There is also 6-7 alien species held in high regards in the empire, one being worried what the new republic would do to them if the empire fell. Its been this way for a very long time so I don't see how any of this is a new canon change

I think Daala was a isolated incident and after the experience she held on to a jaded sexist outlook one the whole empire.

If anything the empire is "demographicist" plenty of humans that had sided with SEPs or Neutrals became slaves or had there souls taken by Emperor Sidious.

Are you sure? All the information books I have doesn't depict the Empire as sexist and in a since raceist. The reason you do rarely see Female storm troopers or pilots is because of the physical hardship trainnes go through. You'll probably see more women in emost other Naval and Army jobs.

It is referenced quite a lot in EU novels that the Empire was very sexist, not just against Daala. She was quite remarkable for this very reason, as it was VERY rare a woman reached that rank and amount of power.

Thats not to say there were no females serving, but there was a great deal of "glass ceiling" style of sexism in the Empire.

Strictly speaking, EU sexism/racism on the Empire's side is purely an inference based on the films' extra casting, it's never really been an official point.

Well....nothing EU is "official". But it is explicitly stated repeatedly, so it's just as official as anything else not in the movies really (like most of the X-Wing game!).

And Jacen killed Mara, sure. Ancillary sources practically have to be cherry-picked or you get KJA, Mando-motorboating, and Epicanthix.

I dont go for that theory i'm afraid. Either EU sources are valid, or they aren't....picking just the bits you like (not you personally, a general you) makes it worthless, since other people will pick totally different bits and claim your bits are "invalid".

So if we're using EU (and since X-Wing is FULL of EU i dont think we have a choice), then all EU sources are equally valid.

IMO of course. Everyone is welcome to enjoy stuff however they like!

As of Tarkin... I picked up no sexist nor speciesist vibes from the Emperor, Vader, and Tarkin.

They did however have an anti core-world bias, as all three came from the rim.

I don't think any of them were anti-core. It was more the Core historically not caring much about the Rim.

Given Mas Ameeda has Sate Pestage's old EU rank, Palpatine doesn't seem to be speciest or sexist in the new canon. His thing is more military domination of the galaxy.

Except against Wookiees.

Here's where I could be really nasty and paint you as wanting the Empire to be racist, but honestly, combining the two videos I mostly get a sense of "what the hell is a wookiee anyway".

Species bias is like sexism.....old EU very commonly said it was a thing, but nothing in the movies or new canon does so. So it's not canon, but is a thing in the EU.
