Spring 2015 Tournament Kit

By Killerardvark, in X-Wing

Someone posted this on the BGG forum. Looks pretty legit, but I haven't seen anything confirming it anywhere else. Range rulers and alternate art upgrade cards. Quite the impressive quality of loot for a regular tournament kit. I'm excited.

Launch into the X-Wing™ Spring 2015 Season with new Tournament Kits!

Featuring cinematic dogfights and a unique movement system, X-Wing continues to expand and build new game communities around the world. The Spring 2015 X-Wing Tournament Kit comes with an event guide and new promotional materials to help support tournaments, league play, or any other event you wish to run. The order deadline for these kits is December 29th, and the Spring season begins in March.

These kits include prize support and promotional material designed to support competitive or casual tournament play at local retailers. Run an eight-week tournament series or league, use the prizes to support a single, large tournament, or host a weekly casual game night. Tournament Kits also come with a guide that provides tips and ideas on how to run a great event.

Each Spring 2015 X-Wing Tournament Kit comes with exciting prizes and materials to help tournament organizers:

- One exclusive Darth Vader medal (not pictured)
- Two acrylic range rulers
- Four TIE Fighter dice bags
- Two copies of an alternate art Tycho Celchu card
- Seventeen copies of an alternate art Push the Limit card
- A promotional poster featuring a YT-2400 Freighter scavenging among wreckage
- One informational pamphlet on running a tournament or league

I like how they are doing alt upgrade cards starting with PTL, that is awesome.

Nice. No tokens, but at this point I've got mostly all that I need.
Alt art PtL? Heck yeah.

I've been waiting for them to get around to alternate art upgrade cards since the beginning. Finally!

Very cool. 17 copies of push the limit is great.

Well that's different (doing an alt art upgrade card). Kinda neat, though. Makes sense that it would be of a TIE Interceptor considering the card is practically mandatory for any TIE Interceptor that sees play.

I love that they are moving on to the Alt Art Upgrade cards... for the most part, the pilots that have Alt Arts cards now really aren't played all that much. So seeing a popular EPT like PTL going to the Alt Art range is awesome!

Alternate Ptl, hell yeah!

Now we just need Predator, Advanced Sensors, Heavy Laser Cannons ... the list is quite big! Epic will surely benefit from extra upgrade cards. Predator for everyone!

Anyone found confirmation of this? I couldn't with my simple use of the search bar. I'm the one that often has to prompt my local store into action so if Dec 29 really is a true deadline I want to pass the word along. If true please post link.

I think they should've started with the errata'd cards, like Daredevil, Gunner, etc.

Me too. I'd love to see acrylic crit tokens at some point, though, just to complete the set.

I use crit tokens and would love some official ones!

PtL AA cards are a great idea. Probably the most used upgrade card, and will give people extras.

The same person on BGG posted similar "announcements" for armada and imperial assault. All very official looking and sounding, but was a bit evasive when asked where the info came from.

Exactly!!! He just cracks a joke and moves on. Mysterious...very mysterious.

Probably just a distributor and gets info earlier, Lion Rampant has the info up now too: http://lionrampantimports.com/product.htm?Product=FFGGSX09&Source=Search

Man, I wish I was a better player now, and went to more tournaments. Tycho is my favorite! Maybe I can ebay it in a year.

For the first time that hanger-on offering looks attractive. The boxes were meh, but those dice bags...

i personally do not mind alt art upgrade cards but i really prefer alt art ship cards. thought this would be a good time to put some scum cards in but maybe next tournament kit

Personally I'm not a fan of the alt art cards, they screw with the placement of the info to get more art in the picture and squish the info. Also, the cards are slightly larger than the regular cards, at least if I judge by the Wedge and TIE fighter card I had.. I traded them off a while back. I just dont like them.

The one I like... the oversized Han/Boba .. I have 2.. lol

Wouldn't mind one of the new Vader though, I have been using him a lot lately..

I'm just going to point out that the alt art PTL isn't instead of the acrylic tokens.

Typically, there have been the following in a kit

1 Medal

2 Alt art named pilots

2 (most recently 4) Sets of acrylic tokens

2 (most recently 4) card boxes

17 Alt art generic pilots

This kit has:

1 Medal

2 Alt art named pilots (Tycho)

2 sets of acrylic range rulers

4 sets of dice bags (replacing the card boxes)

17 Alt art PTL (replacing the generic pilot alt art)

Personally, I don't like this change. There are still plenty of pilots, both named and generic, that are commonly used and don't have an alt art. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that list would consist of:

Generics:

Rookie

Red

Gray

Prototype

Green

ORS

Blue

Rebel Op

Tala

Knave

Blackmoon

Wild Space Fringer

Obsidian

Tempest

Storm

Alpha

Avenger

Sabre

Royal

Bounty Hunter

Gamma

Omicron Group Pilot

Delta

Onyx

Sigma

Shadow

Patrol Leader

Named:

Tarn

Hobbie

Garven

Porkins

Wes

Dutch

Horton

Gemmer

Arvel

Jake

(Tycho)

Nera

Ibby

Keyan

Roark

Kyle

Jan

Blount

Cracken

Vrill

Leebo

Dash

Night Beast

Winged Gundark

Dark Curse

Backstabber

Howlrunner

Steele

Krassis

Kath

Jonus

Rhymer

Yorr

Kagi

Vessary

Brath

Echo

Whisper

Oicunn

Kenkirk

Chiraneau

Not to mention all of the new Scum pilots. They're releasing two waves a year, plus other smaller goodies (figure on average 2 more of those), so it's not like they're going to run out of pilots to choose from.

But they have run out of acrylic stuff to hand out. Heck, they've done the range ruler now over half a dozen times (2012 OP, 2012 Worlds(?), 2013 Nats(?), 2013 Worlds, 2014 Store, 2014 nats, 2014 Worlds, 2015 S1)... So instead of giving out an alt art named pilot and a set of acrylics to the top two, and alt art generic pilots to everyone, perhaps they should give out an Alt art named pilot, and a limited edition alt art generic to the top two, and then an alt art generic (different one) to everyone else.

For example, it could be an alt art Rookie for everyone, and a limited edition alt art Red for the top two, in addition to a named Imperial pilot. And when scum comes out, there could be one from every faction this way.

Imperial High Command called and they would like to know where the Howlrunner alt-art card is. (preferably using the art from Armada).

That is all.

I like the idea of alt art upgrade cards, since players might actually need more of them. With the pilot cards, you are always going to have the generics and named that you need anyway, so it's purely cosmetic to have the alt art versions, whereas the alt art upgrade cards might be useful as well as cosmetic.

I just need to get a hold of my FLGS to order a kit for my little gaming group.
