Phantom Clarifications.

By Gadge, in X-Wing Rules Questions

been trying out phantoms a bit lately and i *think* we're doing it right but can someone confirms.

Hypothetically can my mate do this.

2nd turn, his echo pilot is cloaked. sets his wheel for say 2 curve or whatever.

Activation phase stays cloaked and makes a cloaked 2 curve.

this leaves him at shooting time behind or in line of sight of one of my ships but hes cloaked.

If he then decloaks and spends the token to attack.

can he stay where he is or does he *HAVE* to make that '2' forwards or sidways move?

Or if you chose not to decloak have we read it totally wrong and you cant fire that turn?

A ship can only decloak "immediately before revealing its maneuver dial", that is in the activation pahse before executing it's maneuver. So in your example, if you chose to not decloack before your maneuver, you don't get a new opportunity to decloak until the next activation phase.

When you do decloak, you must do the 2 forwards/sideways thing, it's not optional. In fact, if you can not do it due to other ships/obstacles being in the way, you can not decloak.

While cloaked you may not attack.

Cool, i must have missed that 'immediately before the dial' thing as like i say i dont normally play phantoms and it just seemed super lethal if you could just rip around cloaked until you were ready to fire.

only a friendly game so no biggie but ill make sure it doesnt happen again.

When decloaking you always have to use the 2 straight template

Like another said, has to be before you reveal your dial.

If using echo you must use the bank.

If your cloaked you cannot shoot

Also I believe if you have advanced sensors you cannot decloak, and then recloak

I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong on that

Close, but no cigar - you cannot use advanced sensors to cloak, and then immediately decloak. If you did not start your turn cloaked you can't decloak. Nothing stops you from cloaking again after decloaking.

The confusion stems from the Cloak Action, whereas Decloaking isn't an action. A TIE Phantom can use Adv Sensors to perform a Cloak action, it just can't immediately Decloak.

And Echo does not use the 2 straight template, but the 2 bank template when decloaking.

Sorry. Double post

yeah i know echo has to us the bank 'barrelroll/forwards' i was just trying to set up the 'can you decloak in the firing phase' scenario... i'd got that bit, its the reason you take echo as it gives you six variable postions not three :)

The comment was ment for Krynns post on always using use the 2 straight. Just for other readers to get all details.

I said that, reread my post

So you did. Missed that. Sorry.

Actually you can de-cloak through another ship if the end position does not overlap any ships.
