Phantom 'wolf pack' list. Das Boot....

By Gadge, in X-Wing

I've always seen phantoms as the 'u boat' of xwing.

I've currently got two and i dont over play them and currently cant decide if i prefer whisper or echo.

But i was thinking about a three phantom list

One named decent pilot like whisper or echo with ACD

then two of the cheap generics at 25pts with a 4 pt ACD on them.

Has anyone had any luck with a 'wolf pack' list like this and could give me some advice before i splash out on a third phantom as an xmas present to myself.

A Worlds list had Echo and two of the Advanced Scopes Intelligence Agent Stygium Particle Accelerator Sigmas.

You see im new to phantoms so i was assuming ACD was an essential as you just have to make sure you can line up for 'a shot' even if its got zero chance of hitting (bar being in range) whereas anything else was a bit risky

Actually it was Enhanced Scopes.

That would also keep them at the same 29 point cost as what's already in Gadge's list.

ACD is kind of a waste on a PS3 pilot. Pretty much everyone will shoot before he gets to recloak. With Stygium you may not get to decloak every turn...but it's a bit safer overall. Then with the combo of Intelligence Agent and Enhanced Scopes it's easy to stay out of trouble.

The one advantage that ACD still has on low PS Phantoms is that it does let you cloak almost every round. Cloaking isn't going to help your defense much but it will help your positioning.

I would like to suggest if you are going to try 3 phantoms, this list:

Sigma Squadron Pilot (25)
Sensor Jammer (4)
Stygium Particle Accelerator (2)
Sigma Squadron Pilot (25)
Sensor Jammer (4)
Stygium Particle Accelerator (2)
"Echo" (30)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
Advanced Cloaking Device (4)
Total: 99
Just don't forget that the particle accelerator gives an evade on the cloak AND decloak.

I like your list Hujoe. Not trying to hijack the thread, but what is decent for a 2 phantom list? 2 generics? or whisper + echo and some academies? Maybe whisper or echo with a generic and some other ships? Just curious. Thanks! Sorry for stealing your thread.

That title, Gadge. :'D Love that movie...

Er, on topic... I think you'll have great firepower, excellent mobility, and slightly better durability than a triple Interceptor list. Something I still have to remind myself of is that don't feel that you have to take a shot if your Phantom is likely to take more damage than it deals out. Run silent, run deep for a turn and come back for another run, to continue the submarine analogy.

My thoughts exactly

I was thinking North atlantic wolfpack, sits there submerged (cloaked) and spreadout (evading).... convoy (rebels) comes into sight and they converge to attack!

What would you say of

3 x Shadow

FCS

SPA

IA

With an option to change the FCS into Accuracy Correctors?

Dunno, could give it a try though.

:)

If you want to try a variant of Six Sigma just to see if you like it, try Shadows.

Shadow Squadron

Intel Agent

Enhanced Scopes

Advanced Cloaking Device.

The higher PS gets you out of sight vs swarms, VI plus ACD lets you get in position to block and deny actions to high PS ships. Lots of guns clobbers any single target, shoots those guns before any generics, tons and tons of mobility combined with information about opponent moves, vaporizes like a teardrop in Death Valley if you get hit at close range by a high-PS ship (especially a turret) who has all their actions, or HLC Dash with a focus.

But fun. Oh yes, good times to be had.

Sigma's are actually kind of like rookie pilots. They cost 4 points more for 4 attack dice vs 3 (which is a big deal), and 1 less hull. Both have 2 defense base. Then they have the added bonus of being able to cloak on those maneuvers when you know you're getting shot but don't have a shot yourself. The key is to not try and play them as jr whispers, but as cloak capable x-wings.

ACD is good on sigmas if you have the points. Not for defense though, only for the option to decloak next round.

I've had a lot of fun with this list:

Phantasm (100/100)
