Well old Lucas can't actively work to ruin these movies so why should he care, the young guy that created the universe is long dead killed by his evil clone.
Considering he's a creative consultant he doesn't need to see the trailer. He probably already knows what happens.

He would of been kept on a short leash Disney is very aware how poorly his alterations are viewed by most fans.
George Lucas:
Set up LucasFilm, Industrial Light and Magic (has made visual effects for over 300 films), Skywalker Sound (about 30 films a year, have won 18 Academy Awards) and Pixar, all of which have done massively more than just Star Wars, has made a huge number of films, has used his fortune (including a lot of the Disney sale) in a wide range of philanthropic endeavours. The Rebels series that gets talked about a lot on this forum and despite being a kids show is fairly popular? That's an evolution of Clone Wars which George Lucas was directly behind. Also behind LucasArts which, while it may have got to **** in its last few years due to severe mismanagement issues, produced a huge and wide ranging amount of material since it opened in 1982. Monkey Island springs to mind. Oh, and he's why credits are at the end of films.
This is barely scratching the surface.
But no, he made three films that weren't as critically acclaimed as three other films he made (they were still massive box office successes and the people who claim to loathe them "because it's cool" are not the majority), and thus he deserves to be hounded and mocked by a massive internet circlejerk for the rest of his days.

He wants to see the whole thing unspoiled in the theater.
Good for him.

He also made Howard The Duck.
And Indiana Jones. And Young Indiana Jones.

Actually, Episode 1 is the film with a below average rating (47% or 49%, one of those 2), with Episode 2 being somewhere in the 50s, and Episode 3 was actually relatively high.
EDIT: Ok I was wrong, Episode 1 was 57%:
Episode 1: 57%
Episode 2: 67%
Episode 3: 80%
Episode 4: 93%
Episode 5: 96%
Episode 6: 78%
RotS is rated higher than RotJ, that's kind of funny.

Well yeah, the people who claim to loathe them "because it's cool" are not the majority, but the people who claim to loathe them because they loathe them may be. Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean they don't have a brain of their own and are just doing it "because it's cool", to suggest so makes you sound incredibly... I'm not sure what actually, but it's not pleasant.

Ewoks save the galaxy....
I actually tried to give the prequels another got this weekend.
Phantom menace started off quite cool with the idea that one jedi was manageable but two were deadly was great
I watched it to the pod race then i sort of fell asleep (litterally) until the end of the gungan battle i think i woke up as anakin shot out of th e burning droid control ship. Then watched the rest.
Yesterday tried attack of the clones and it was alright but it was getting late so we stopped watching 45 minutes in and might finish it tonight.
I've been trying to work out why they just are not as good as the OT. I think i can put it down to a few things.
1. too much CGI and its not even that good. All the aliens would actually look loads better if they were people in suits liek the OT.
2. im not 8 or whatever so im not super excited about the toys that go with it (other than this game and the odd lego star wars model). Like i've got a tie piots costume that cost a fortune to make, its iconic, if i wear it on haloween *everyone* knows its star wars (a few people get confused and think its darth vader) but if i dressed up at a film accurate trade viceroy no one would have bloody clue who i was supposed to be.
3. everything is too clean, like star trek. I get its the 'golden age' of the republic but it would still have been lived in for centuries and it doesnt look it.
4. the reasons for dispute are rubbish... trade. Its not the same as an evil empire strangling freedom and a desperate fight for life.
5. Jar jar binks... its bad enough hes total F***witt in the first one and annoying but like as if they would make a tool like that a senator.
6. Sith... only having two is a really daft idea. they are not *that* powerful. But you can only have two but there are like 300 jedi. If the sith had decent recruitment programme they wouldnt need to do so much mucking about.
7. Dath Maul was ace , built up to be a super baddie, looked great as a 'new vader', then discarded like a used piece of loo roll. He had loads of menace in him and could have been a great 'power' but was totally wasted
8. Other than kenobi and maul nobody is remotely interesting as a character, i just dont care about any of them like you did about luke , han, leia etc. When you're a kid you identify with luke, as a man you want to be han... in the prequels kenobi is too fussy and anakins just annoying in every incarnation.
9. Anakin's love story.... if you watch the first two back to back like did it seems mental that hes got the hots for someone about a decade older than him and a little 'yewtree' (british reference) that amidala wants him.
10. Over the top lightsabre combat... particularly yoda. Yoda is supposed to be powerful in the force, but because he can move objects, see the future etc etc... not because hes a two foot high dartanian. Watching him pinball around the room fighting dooku ( that is etched into my memory, iv'e yet to sufffer it again was ludicrous.
Im really *trying* to like the prequels and give them a second chance right now but they are not making it easy
Its really something when 'rebels' is infinitley better when its being bad than the prequels were when they were being good.
I seem to remember the third one being ok though....

That's not the best way to judge them. For the OT, most of those reviews are from the special editions. ESB and especially ROTJ had a fair share of negative reviews when they came out. Also TPM was over 60%, but then dropped with the 3D release when everyone started throwing out negative reviews.

Young george did those things we don't hate him, we hate old george the evil twin from the mirror universe that replaced young george and set about killing all he made.

Ewoks save the galaxy....
You see i was eight when ROTJ came out and i bloody loved ewoks, that bit was ace then so i still cant hate it too much now.
I had like an ewok village and glider and all the ewok toys and nearly all my star wars battles were on endor (which looked suspiciously like my back garden which was very green and wooded) unless it snowed then all the hoth stuff came out.
I even loved the ewok movies at the time.
I dont hate the ewok idea. because its like the 'death star weakness'... like this little thing cant be a threat, we've got armour designed to stop blasters but then find out its not good if you're being bludgeoned by rocks... that sort of makes sense.
Some of its silly i grant you like how they know how to use ATSTs and speeders but the idea of a 300 man garrison being overun by savages with spears depsite having super advanced tech isnt that hard to believe.
The British Army got a hammering fighting the zulus becasue they made the same mistake of underestimating the 'savage with a spear and a wicker shield' against maxim guns and martini henris...

Yeah, those numbers look like a pretty accurate measure.
I remember watching TPM when it came out with my girlfriend.
We were in leicester square cinema and as they were in the ship evacuating tatooine and amidala nd annikin are talking she whispered into my ear 'try not to imagine them f***ing'
That ruined the rest of the film for me, it was a horrific image, my ex was quite twisted.
Ewoks save the galaxy....
I'll take this over Gungan "antics" and Anniekins any day.

Funnily enough i had that same though and it was really off putting.
I dont even have high hopes for EPVII
I just want it to be no worse than TPM.
Im excited by it and so far from what i've seen its ticking the right boxs.
I think i've worked out the plot as well but im not getting into that on a thread in case im right and i wreck it for people.
I like the prequels.
Phantom menace had everything you could ask for from a Star Wars movie: lightsabers, a large scale ground war, and ship to ship combat.
The dialogue may have been a bit rough, but I don't pop a new hope in the DVD player because Luke was such a wordsmith.
You see that was another thing about the prequels.
It *felt* like in the OT the script was a bit weird sounding and that helped, the speech was at times a bit odd or archaic and people like kenobi and vader tended to use fuller sentences while the younger ones used a lot of contractions (luke: I can't do it!.... yoda. do or do not.... etc)
The dialogue in the prequels is just very modern real world. Anakin talking to obi wan in epII is like a 12 year old who is saying 'f*ck you i wont tidy my bedroom' rather than a warrior monk learning ancient arts.

That's a good observation. I'd never considered that.
