Sorry what word are we not supposed to be starring out?
Im a bit confused by the above.

oh right the 'dark' idea of luke/leia s conception.
Yep, the "r" word apparently gets an auto-censor here.
FFG censors the three letter word for being male and homesexual which is frankly crazy. I guess it stops people using it as an insult which im all in favour of but if you want to discuss sexual politics (perhaps even in relation to star wars, shock horror!) and gender it makes it tricky.
But what if I want to discuss the deliciousness of the Golden ***time?
Like is there a non heterosexual star wars character?
Im not being all 'PC gone mad' but im genuinley curious as they seem to be addressing gender and racial balance in star wars but its obviously a completely 'straight' universe.
I'm pretty sure Leia was speaking specifically about her real mum.
(That was a response to Black Knight Leader)
I dont think she knew at the time till during ROTJ that Bail was not her real Dad, and after ROTJ she eventually figures Padma e was her real mom. She probably thought for awhile Darth Vader did something devious too the woman that raised her.
The truth of the matter is Empire Strikes Back is the best Star Wars movie and the one that Lucas had the least to do with

The only sexual preference we can be partly sure of, going by movies alone, is Luke, Han and Leia's. Oh and the Berus and Vader.
Anybody else could go any number of ways. Who is to say dr Evazan and Pondo Baba weren't more than partners in crime for instance.

Look at that cape and then tell me that Lando doesn't swing both ways. ![]()
And after all, they came from.... Behind
Lobot looked like he was 'good with colours' too....
Well with that shirt anyway ![]()
Out of interest any gay or bi characters in EU fiction. I'm just wondering if its co-incidental or just something that wierdly never occurs in the SW mythos.
Like my wife and I have loads of gay friends and i think statistically about 12 per cent of any given population is gay so its just odd no one is in SW
Well, noone is shown to be, that doesn't mean they aren't.
If, that is, you can apply current notions on sexuality on a galaxy far far away. You can't even apply them on say Pharaonic Egypt or the ancient Greek militaries.
.
How about the history of bacon?
Hah! got you there.
That would indeed be an epic subject for conversation. The history of bacon is, after all, pretty much the history of mankind.
Edit:
Incidentally, it seems as though the US Navy is now using Turbolasers...
(which clearly leads us to)
See, I see that picture and see one thing only:
PULL my finger!
What do you think, Sirs?
The truth of the matter is Empire Strikes Back is the best Star Wars movie and the one that Lucas had the least to do with
Dude! I've been trying to get my head above all this other stuff for pages now and basically say what you just said. But it would have taken several paragraphs. Nicely done.
I need to remember that when I am promulgating my esoteric cogitations or articulating my superficial sentimentalities; amicable, philosophical, or psychological observations, I should beware platitudinous ponderosity.
And after all, they came from.... Behind
Even better with backstroke of the west (translate SW ep3 to mandarin(?) then back to english - look it up.
It becomes "He's in my behind!"
And a link because no-body asked.

Yeah, there's really only one romance (well, two if you include Luke) in the OT, so it's hard to draw conclusions on the prevalance of homosexuality in the GFFA from that. And of course in the prequels the romance pretty much had to be straight, since it was to produce babies.
I'm pretty sure Leia was speaking specifically about her real mum.

I dont think she knew at the time till during ROTJ that Bail was not her real Dad, and after ROTJ she eventually figures Padma e was her real mom. She probably thought for awhile Darth Vader did something devious too the woman that raised her.
But Luke specifically asks about her 'real' mother, so she did know she was brought up by somebody else.
If I can finally comment on the original post:
I saw SW in 1977 when I was 7. Between movies, my friends and I would take anything with a SW label on it: bad comics, novels, the Holiday Special, Donny and Marie, etc. There was a lot of garbage. I remember sitting through the Holiday Special with warring sides of my little personality: "This is garbage! Why are we watching this?" "It's STAR WARS we MUST watch AND like it!"
I loved Jedi when it came out, but as the years went on and the junk kept coming, (Ewok Movies!) I started getting older, smarter, having taste, etc. I got to the point where I had an objective view of SW, and in a Rotten Tomato-meter way, they fell out like this:
ESB 92
ANH 85
RotJ 65
As others have pointed out, Lucas had the least to do with ESB, and its the best. Lucas proved this when stuff like Dark Forces, Shadows of the Emp, and the Spec. Ed. movies were released. Don't get me wrong, there's stuff about all of these that I like, but there's a lot of money grabbing going on, there's a lot of pointless rewrites going on, and there's a bunch of fanboy pandering going on.
I should probably also point out at this point that I was totally unimpressed by the Zahn trilogy and I really don't care if Mara Jade is ever validated outside of the EU.
But by the day that all three Spec. Ed.s were in the theater on the same day, I really thought Lucas has slipped some gears. So anyone thinking that the Prequels are why everyone rips on Lucas is missing a lot. There are those of use who'd been having a bad taste for his stuff for a decade or more at that point.
Given all of this, I went into TPM with REALLY low expectations. So I walked out pleased. I hated Jar Jar just as much, if not more than the next guy, but the Qui/Obi fight at the begging, and the Maul fights made the movie for me. Sure, Jake wasn't great, but if you watch ANH objectively, neither is Mark. Jake was younger, he was handed terrible dialogue and directed quite poorly. Several actors from all of Lucas' movies have commented on these issues. The guy doesn't write good dialogue and doesn't direct well. All I wanted out of TPM was that it was better than Jedi, I didn't think that was a high hurdle, and it barely cleared it, so I was happy with it.
The same goes for AotC. I think it's better than Jedi. You can write off the interactions between Padme and Anakin on the fact that they are both weird kids. One raised to be a politician, the other raised as a slave, and then taken off to a monastery. Do you expect them to interact normally? And, again, they were given dialogue that older, more experienced actors have complained about, and directed by someone they complained about too.
Sith is just as bad, if not worse than Jedi. Catch me on a different day, and I might say it's slightly better.
As others have said, I think Lucas surrounded himself with Yes Men. How anyone didn't stop him with Jar Jar, Greedo Shooting, etc, I just don't know.
Also, and I apologize to all the parents out there who are going to be insulted by this, but I think parenthood took its toll. The same can be said about Eddie Murphy. Parents view the world through a really skewed lens, let's be honest. I've been working with children since the early 80s, and I know plenty of parents who are honest enough to admit it. You shouldn't talk to people about all the things your kid does that you think are cute, because it's like that guy at the Con who won't shut up about his RPG character. If you spend all your time around people who are also parents, and this is all you guys talk about, get out some more. Hire more babysitters. Be your own adult again. And for the love of everything Holy, if you are involved in the entertainment business, do not start making stuff only your kids will like, or naming stuff after their baby-talk words for things. The only people who will like it are you, your kids, and other lost parents who spend their time ENJOYING watching Barney and Caillou with their kids.
Woah! You prefer Phantom Menace and Attack if the Clones to Return of the Jedi?!?

1. Yes.
2. Bring it.
I'm used to this reaction. But, seriously, watch Jedi again; not even the rotten Spec. Ed. version. Be honest with yourself about the acting, dialogue, and childishness, and I think you'll come around. And by childishness, I'm not just talking about Ewoks. I'm talking about everything belching, Artoo zapping Ewoks in the ass, saying lines in unison, etc. Seriously, give another go 'round with a critical eye.
Butbutbut!
I'm not cherry picking, I find it hard to think of examples the other way around. Granted, Ewoks taking out Storm Troopers was stupid.
Granted, Ewoks taking out Storm Troopers was stupid.
Yes, but Ewoks being taken out by Storm Troopers was GLORIOUS.
Also: Speeder Bike chase > Pod Racing.
Admiral Ackbar makes any argument against ROTJ invalid. It's a trap.
For any remaining possible argument, see the slave girl bikini.
Hopefully not a trap.
