Painted or unpainted

By Giulio, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Just curios to know how many of you will paint the minis. I think that if the game will have a good success there will be a offer of painted minis on a parallel market.

Time is limited, but I hope to paint my minis. It's something I enjoy doing, although prepainted would be nice as well.

After my divorce with Games Workshop, I'm no longer interested in painting figures. More dice rolling, less painting please (Thanks X-wing!)

Plus, I hate mixing unpainted minis with painted ones, which means once I start painting I'll have to put campaign missions/skirmish missions on hold which is a big no-no for me! :P

I'll probably hire a commission painter once the game has run its course.

Unfortunately I have neither the time nor the talent, and this is not a cheap game to make a bodge job of.

So unpainted for me.

On a slight tangent, do we know how these mini's scale with the WOTC ones? Would it be feasible to mix some of those in for Stormtroopers, for example?

This should be the official picture of this forum, because it's been asked about a zillion times haha :P

I will be very tempted to at least try my hand at painting them. I might try to get some practice first on some of the old fashioned green army men. If I'm still not feeling confident enough to try it, I might check on what commission work would cost (probably more than I'd really want to pay).

In the meantime, if I really want to use painted minis, I have most of the matching WOTC minis, which are close enough in scale for stand-ins, with the exception of the AT-ST.

I'd liked to pay more but have minis already painted. however, I'll print them for sure. I don't know when but I'll do it. As someone said before, I left GW games because really tired to paint minis and I'm not enthusiast to start again.

At first ill use the wotc minis cu i have hundreds of them, but ill be painting them, then when they are finished i will be using nice painted models!

So have enough to replace all game units + play skirmish , may have to copy some deployment cards. Now I have 3 games including WOTC.

When expansions arrive and finished painting I will sell on WOTC stuff so win win win.

for those inexperienced at painting, it can be done simply and quickly using the Army Painter method. apply a basecoat, dip it in Quickshade, apply matt varnish to get the shine off, done. Its a really simple method guys, and the effect is really good. would recommend brushing the quickshade on as opposed to dipping the mini in the pot, and i always thin mine down with white spirits, i find it easier to work it that way. get a few old miniatures to try it on. trust me, you can do an excellent paintjob in under an hour, as opposed to the GW method of undercoat, basecoat, wash, clean up, highlight, more highlight, extreme highlight (which i dont think looks that good close up tbh)

I'm hoping to paint my miniatures for this game, though I haven't painted anything since I gave up on Games Workshop some 15 years ago.

I'm sure it'll all come back to me.... right? :D

I would very much appreciate if FFG woulf offer a deluxe painted figure line - especially the Stormtroopers!

I'm sure going to paint mine. I've been practicing with my Descent minis for a couple months now.

Apologies, I haven't seen that before. And thanks! Looks pretty close.

I hope to find time to try and paint these. I have only tried painting a Blood Bowl team once and that went sorta okay.

Will proably wait untill someone else have painted theirs and can share their experience.

Definitely painting. Going with the dip method. Quick, easy and looks good.

Coincidentally enough, there was a 40K player at my local game shop last night, despite the fact that there isn't much of a 40K scene, and I was able to talk with him for some tips on painting. And if I'm not able to get the kind of results I want for the effort I can put in, I might commission him to paint them. I would much rather do it myself, though.

I plan on painting mine! Have so many ideas to differentiate the squads!

Absolutely painting mine. I have a cool idea for lightsabers. Going to do Vader's saber in white, then coat the outside with Blood for the Blood God (Red glaze, it's semi transparent and very glossy). Should give it a nice lightsaber-looking glow with hopefully a white core.

Let's have a pic when you do

I just went looking around for my old WOTC Star Wars minis, and I can't find the tub that has the Imperials or Mercenaries. I'm going to keep looking for sure, but if I can't find it, that means no painted proxies for Darth Vader, Royal Guards, Nexu, Trandoshans, etc., while I paint up the ones in the Imperial Assault boxed set. And I have no idea where they could have gone.

That's just one more reason for me to paint mine.

I will definitely be painting these. I might just use craft store acrylics and apply a wood stain for the ink/shade effects.

I will be painting our local game shop has free painting classes once a month. I want to attend a few of those and practice first.

They will be amazing!

I painted my first batch of miniatures ever using that method about a month ago... that polyshades tudor makes it look like I actually knew what I was doing! I totally plan on doing the same thing with IA.

Anyone have some tips or tutorials for novice/ very bad painters? I've heard of one called the army painter, any other suggestions?
