Just coming up with some ideas for Wave 6 launch events. The traditional make a new squad out of one of the new ships will not work because the new ships will be a separate faction. So I thought of something similar to well it isn't a draft but a sealed pack built around the Most Wanted pack. So far I have came up with two different ideas for a tournament. It will require a purchase of the Most Wanted pack which will be added in the entry fee. This is what I have though of.
Option 1:
All participants will have a most wanted pack, with the pack they will have
- Two Z-95 Headhunter models
- One Y-wing model.
Participants may bring
- One Y-wing model
- One HWK 290- model
- One Firespray-41 model
- any upgrade cards they want to equip their squadron with.
All participants must bring all dice and templates required to play a standard match of X-wing in a competitive tournament setting.
Participants will be required to make a standard Scum and Villainy Squadron of up to 100 points using only
the models listed below:
- Up to two Z-95 Headhunters
- Up to two Y-wings
- Up to one HWK-290
- UP to one Firespray 41 modle.
- Any legal upgrade cards from the Star Wars X-wing miniatures game collection from core to wave 6.
Standard competitive tournament rules apply.
Pros: Probably the easiest to set up and also the one where participants are on the most equal footing. It won't be to dependent on individual collections although upgrades might give advantages to some. Can substitute a voucher or pre-sale of the most wanted pack as an admission to the tournament. This also allows the other Wave 6 ships to be saved as prizes.
Cons: This will also have the least amount of selection available for squadrons so less tournament list diversity and no experience with the new models.
Option 2:
All participants get a Most Wanted Pack and can choose two expansion packs from following list depending upon availability one at a time. (*counts as 2 packs)
- Y-wing expansion pack
- HWK-290 expansion pack
- Star Viper expansion pack
- MA-3 Scyk expansion pack
- IG-2000 expansion pack*
- Slave-1 expansion pack*
All participants will be required to make a standard Scum and Villainy squadron of no more than 100 points using only the models, tiles, dials and cards they received in the Most Wanted and their expansion packs drafts.
All participants must bring their own templates dice and tokens required to play a standard game of X-wing miniatures.
Standard competitive rule format applies.
Pros: A more accurate definition of the "sealed pack" style tournament. Makes the new ships available in the tournament.
Cons: Requires a more expensive entry fee to compensate for the additional models. Wave 6 ships as prizes will be redundant.
So which one would you rather play in. Is there a better option, maybe a combination of the two or would you just rather play a standard format and let Wave 6 ships be legal?
I'd figured since the new faction will be the latest and greatest why not just have a S&V tournament?
Thoughts, opinions, comments?
