Comments on my squad?

By RexlarBrath, in X-Wing

i'm really trying to find a good squad with the yt2400 and im also trying to avoid fat dash and the HLC+outrider combo. So I started building a list that I think could be better but I don't really know how to do it. Here's the build so far:

Eaden vrill (32)

Dash rendar(crew) (2)

"Dutch" vander (23)

Ion-cannon turret (5)

R3-A2 (2)

Bandit squadron x3 (36)

Total: 100

I'm not really sure how I'd want to go about stressing ships for Eaden's ability after Dutch dies, which could be quick. Any ideas? This is just a quick build that came to my mind today.

tactician?

I like it! Dutch is a great workhorse, especially with an Ion Turret and R3-A2. Vrill and Dash are a combo I've wanted to try, it should be easy enough to keep the YT-2400 behind a rock or two for much of the game.

The only thing I'd worry about is Phantoms or other high-PS ships, simply because their escort might be enough to mob Vrill. Dutch is a tempting target but I think I'd worry more about the YT if I had Soontir or Whisper. I think the Dutch-Vrill double-down will be efficient on basically any generic pilot, but Dutch isn't the damage there (linchpin though he his!).

The three Bandit Pilots are where I'd look to change things. I mean, for 36 points, they're your most efficient option...I could see a fully-loaded VI Jake Farrell doing some good work against Phantoms and Outriders, but now you're down to three ships total. Maybe two Refit Prototype Pilots, an Ion Cannon on Vrill, and a Hull Upgrade for Dutch?

I don't like pairing Dutch with R3-A2. It sets him up for failure in my opinion, as he has to go 1 or 2 straight to clear stress, in order to take an action to pass a free Target Lock. So you end up setting yourself up to be blocked. As for the rest of it, I'm not too sure I'd ever like the Dash crew, but I suppose it allows your shots to be unobstructed, which means you could use it in combination with the innate BR to hide. But then you're left with an unmodified attack (unless Dutch isn't blocked), not to mention you're hiding at PS3.

As for the remaining 36 points, while nothing is wrong with 3 Bandits, I think you could make good use of a Blue w/ Tactician. And if you drop the Dash crew (or rearranged Dutch), you can still fit in a Bandit/Tala.

I know I've been trying to get Vrill to work as well, as he might be a turret ship worth flying imo because it still takes some skill to set him up well. But I think at the end of the day, he might just not be reliable enough. If he came out during W2, he'd be great as an anti-PTL pilot, but with so many other options these days, self induced stress isn't as prevailent.

Though perhaps if you went with a Phantom hunter with R3-A2, he could be a great compliment. Herm... interesting...

Off topic, has anyone tried Corran with R3-A2? Is the double tap stress worth it?
