Competitive list

By Esmer, in X-Wing

Hi :)

Currently I play casually with a group of friends but I think I want to try the tournament scene. I have the following ships:

  • 1 x Core Set
  • 1 x X-wing
  • 1 x Tie Fighter
  • 1 x Advanced Tie
  • 2 x Y-wing
  • 1 x A-wing
  • 1 x B-wing
  • 1 x E-wing
  • 1 x Rebel Aces
  • 1 x YT-1300
  • 1 x YT-2400

Could I build something competitive out of this? If not what other ships would I have to buy to get something that could do well in a tournament?

There is certainly potential in this spread. However, you're sorely lacking on the upgrades you'd get from the Imperial ships.

My recommendation is that you build something you enjoy playing, bring that to us to perfect, and practice the heck out of it. That's substantially better than net-fleeting (as metagaming only matters if you play very close to perfectly), and will have you be playing a fleet you enjoy :).

One thing to consider: One rule of thumb is that if you're building a ship with 3 or more attack dice, you shouldn't need to add offensive upgrades. Action Economy, Defense, and Mobility are where it's at :).

I've never heard of that rule of thumb, kinda just says screw you to HLC Bs/Defenders as well. The other part I can agree with though. Learn a list you enjoy flying, it will do better then a list you grabbed off he internet. That being said, we can help you build a list, but to start, what kinda of list would you enjoy? Quick evasive builds? Heavy hitters? All around generalists?

I love flying my Falcon and i think it could run well with the YT-2400.

I've been flying the falcon with an e-wing and a y-wing with the only upgrade being an ion cannon. Didnt want to over complicate the game for the first few goes so i went with 1 upgrade and decided to concentrate on flying and shooting :)

Try everything. Build lists with 3 to 4 different ships with different named pilots and upgrade cards. Use that to find some of your favorite combos.

I also mostly collect Rebels and I love to fly this;

Jake Farrell (24)

Push the Limit (3)

Chardaan Refit (-2)

Outmaneuver (3)

A-Wing Test Pilot (0)

Roark Garnet (19)

Ion Cannon Turret (5)

Rookie Pilot (21)

R3-A2 (2)

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

Advanced Sensors (3)

Total: 100

You'll need the transport for the drone or print it for playtesting.

Roark and the Rookie (sounds like a show bad 80's sitcom) disable any stress using aces and ACD Phantoms. Jake flanks and is a serious nuisance all game long, while the B is there to add some beef and hitpoints to the squad (you could go with 2 Z's though). Overall It has enough fire power to take on a big ship
