Running LAotH with homemade PCs

By Icosiel, in Game Masters

Hey all. I'm starting a new group tonight. They played through the Beginner Game, but then they wanted to make their own characters to play future games. I was interested in running Long Arm of the Hutt for them tonight, since I never have before, but it may be problematic. I noticed there are specific points throughout the adventure where it refers to the pregens from Escape From Mos Shuuta, and those characters aren't in this game. Would it be too much of a hassle to switch it out for my group, or just not include the stuff that mentions them? Further, I want to change all the stuff about Mos Shuuta and Tatooine to something else, so they won't feel like it's at all related to EfMS--and while I'm at it I'll probs switch out Teemo, as well.

Does this sound like more effort than it's worth? Would it be too hard to change all this?

Really depends on how much work you're willing to put into it!

If you've read through the adventure and you're familiar enough with it to change things out, then I would say go for it.

That's what I've done. It works well, and adjust as necessary.

I'm treating "Escape from Mos Shuuta" kinda like the pilot episode of Star Trek. That first episode had a different Captain, and an entirely different crew. The only character that carried over to episode two was Spock. So it really was just pitching the concept out there, and adjusting after it was greenlit.

Once I've run the pilot episode, we'll make characters, plop them into the same storyline, and continue on. Those character-specific bits are easy enough to adjust, so we'll see where it goes.
