First game with Scum Boba & Kath

By markcsoul, in X-Wing

So I have a favorite build of mine that involves Boba & Kath, and I finally got to convert it to scum last night with the release of 5.2 vassal.

I don't want to go into details of my squad or the game itself, just focus on the my impressions of the new abilities scum boba & kath have.

Boba

Ability did come into play several rounds. On defense I don't think I got a single re-roll to turn to an evade, so that was disappointing, but I know that was below average and it's definitely a powerful tool, especially when multiple ships are shooting at you. Offense I got better use from, although I have predator on Boba, so there was at least one occasion where I only needed the one reroll from predator so his ability wasn't needed. If you don't get blocked at range 1 (and that can be tricky) I could easily see taking an evade usually and doing a target lock basically between predator and his ability.

Kath

Oh Scum Kath, how I love thee! It took awhile before I got to use her ability for the first time, but I had two extremely good attacks with it, both at range 1. The first I rolled 4 crits and a hit after all modifications. Only the hit was evaded so I did some crazy damage, although my opponent got pretty lucky overall with the crits they received. The other attack I got a crit and 4 hits after all modifications. Running away from an opponent in general with Kath is much more satisfying now knowing you always have that extra attack die.

So overall I think my squad will be getting a pretty good boost by the new abilities for both of these pilots. My only regret is that I often used rebel captive on one of them, and can't anymore now with scum.

Please post your build so we can better understand your experience. What list were you up against?

So I've played 4 games now with the scum versions of Boba & Kath. I still love them a lot, MUCH better than the imperial versions.

Unfortunately I still haven't gotten the full potential out of Boba yet. I've used his defensive reroll at range 1 probably a dozen times now at least in the 4 games, and not once have I gotten an evade on the reroll. A few times I've gotten a focus when I had a free token, but that's it.

You need focus tokens to get the best out of the reroll defensively, recon specialist is a must imho. It works really well for a lone wolf dash.

Oh noes, super sekret tech! Hush hush!

I took Scarlett out for a test drive for the first time today. Combined with Opportunist, she pulled off a R1 6 dice focused attack against an undamaged but actionless Soontir for the last shot of the game. Holy pow batman, one shotting Soontir has never been so easy. It was awfully satisfying to pull that off!

Yes that does help of course, and as I mentioned I did reroll to a focus a few times when I had one. My point was I'm surprised at my long streak of not re-rolling to a single evade yet. With the number of times I've used that ability, I should have had at least 4 by now.

Predator seems kind of overkill on scum Boba. You'll want him in the thick of the fighting so you'll likely be getting that re-roll on offense anyway.

I want to try PTL, Rec Spec, and Inertial Dampener. Push will let you turtle completely up with 2 focus and an evade. The ID is going to allow you catch someone off guard and let you stay close. Recon Specialist seems like almost an auto-include on him.

With that many dice, it's probably worth putting the K4 Security droid (free TL after green maneuver) in the crew slot for 3 points.

Particularly as you'll want to do a Green after taking the Opportunity.
