Who would you shoot first?

By Bohrdumb, in X-Wing

Jake + Test Pilot + Char + Outmaneuver + Push the Limit

Keyan + EI + Expose

Wedge + Outmaneuver + R2D2

Depends on what I'm flying.

Depends on what I'm flying.

What would you hope you were flying when I put this list on the table?

Biggs walks the dogs

Wedge, then Keyan, then the gnat.

Depends on how its flown. Who's the flanker? Jake or Wedge? Outmaneuver almost seems like overkill on wedge. I'd rather have PTL or Predator.

If they all are coming straight at you, I would shoot Wedge then Keyan.

Keyan.

Would the list concern you at all?

Wedge first assuming he either took target lock, or spent a focus on offense. I'd hope to kill him before he gets a chance to use R2-D2 at all, plus he's higher pilot skill than Keyan which makes a difference.

Second, unless Wedge does have a focus still, would be Keyan.

Last would be Jake.

Jake is the hardest to kill, but also the least effective offensively. I wouldn't want to waste too many attacks early on trying to kill him while having the others pound me to death.

Would the list concern you at all?

Not really, Keyan should go down in one turn against many lists, and he is on a B, so people can train him easilly He will manage to shoot, but it is very unlikely that wedge + keyan manage to kill enough points to justify the 36 point ship that just died.

For example, i am currently playing

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (46)

Expose (4)
Ysanne Isard (4)
Rebel Captive (3)
Experimental Interface (3)
"Whisper" (32)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
Advanced Cloaking Device (4)
Total: 99
and

Corran Horn (35)
Push the Limit (3)
Fire-Control System (2)
R2-D2 (4)
Stealth Device (3)
Dash Rendar (36)
Lone Wolf (2)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Recon Specialist (3)
Outrider (5)
Total: 100

Target priority before deployment/opening moves: Wedge, Keyan, Jake

What I hope that I'm flying: Squints

Concerned?: Not much, though I know I'd be in for a good fight.

The variation I've been running to good effect replaces Wedge with 3 Z95s.

I'd take Keyan first as PS9 Wedge will shoot before I can kill/cripple it at least twice. Keyan might not. Agree with @JoJo that Wedge upgrades are quite unusual, I'd rather go with EU + Predator to maximize his strength.

Jake is still only an A wing, with 2 attack and is probably the hardest to pin down and kill out of that group. So he is last.

Between Wedge and Keyan, it depends who I have a better chance to focus fire and eliminate in 2 average turns. Even with 8 health, B wings can be taken out quickly. I'd attack wedge first instead however if I can ensure he is trapped next turn so he only has the chance to regenerate one shield.

So ideally: Wedge, Keyan, Jake.

You're all wrong.

The correct answer to "Who would you shoot first?" is always; Greedo.

While we're on the subject, people who say "Han Shot First" are also wrong. The correct phrase would be "Han Shoots." (<- Period)

I find wedge is always targeted first. He is just too scary.

Really depends on what I'm flying. If I'm running my own elite squad (Named Interceptors, Phantoms) I'd go for Wedge. Lots of TIE Fighters, Keyan. Ion Defenders, Keyan.

Wedge first, he has crazy eyes...

I don't know man keyan is kind of terrifying.

But Wedge takes the cake.

Wedge first. His ps 9 and ability makes him a dangerous opponent.then Keyan and then kill Jake. Keyan is powerful but he has a lot of hull and shields. I've flown jake before and he can fly circles around Soontir but he still couldn't kill him so he is less dangerous.

I'm shooting Jar Jar first.

Hat tip to DoubleNot7 for the Josie Wales reference!

I see people say things like this a lot. B-Wings that go down in a single round. Sure, it happens. But it doesn't happen nearly as often as people say it happens, and it doesn't happen with many lists. Swarms basically. Provided you get them all into range/arc at the same time. Otherwise, probably not. Most lists have 9-11 attack dice or so, spread over 3-5 ships (2 ship lists tend to have 7 attack dice). Taking out 8 hit points with ~10 attack dice, with 3 or 4 evade dice defending is not very likely. Especially considering that all this ignores all of your ships having arc on the target and not giving up extra evade dice due to range/obstacles. And in this case, Keyan is a moderately high PS ship with barrel roll.

Correct answer is to kill the glass cannons first.

Keyan + EI + Expose does more damage than Wedge + Opportunist. Keyan when exposed also has less durability. Therefore Keyan is the glass cannon, kill him first.

R2-D2 is not a significant factor. Keyan and Wedge will both fall quickly. Burn them down before they kill all your ships.

Jake is a tank so he dies last.

Would the list concern you at all?

At one point I would be right thee with ha flying this 3 ship build, however I don't see it doing very well in the current meta.

As Juggler said, Keyan does the most damage and is the least durable, you shoot him first. Jake is the opposite, he does the least damage and is the most durable, you shoot him last.

Moreover, every upgrade and ability on Keyan works at any stage in the game, whereas Wedges 3 point EPT only works from behind you and R2D2 does nothing at all until you start shooting him. You can counter 7 points of that list right there by doing nothing more than flying straight at it and shooting at Keyan.
