quick question about ruthlessness

By nikk whyte, in X-Wing

i'm tinkering, and i apply ruthlessness to a fully loaded bomber. i notice that ruthless triggers on "an attack that hits," and then i notice that clusters missiles lets you perform an attack twice.

does ruthless trigger on both uses of cluster missiles?

Yup

Yes

Cluster Missiles double tap one target.

Assault Missiles double tap one target and give everyone else a taste.

Ion Torps hand out ion tokens and one target takes a taste.

The more I think about this ability, the more I think its a little godsend and thank god its Empire only, as this on Awings with Outmanuever or PTL would be so broken.

Wat? whats with example two and three?

unfortunately every game i have brought ruthlessness in so far my opponent brought lone wolf so... never used it :(

Assault Missile normally:

If this attack hits, each other ship at Range 1 of the defender suffers 1 damage.

Add Ruthlessness to that.

After you perform an attack that hits, you must choose 1 other ship at Range 1 of the defender (other than yourself). That ship suffers 1 damage

So say Biggs, Wedge and 2 Rookies were flying in formation. You hit Biggs with an Assault Missile. You then do 1 point to Wedge and the Rookies from the assault missile. Then because of Ruthleness, you do one point of damage to a ship in RB1 of the target, which would probably be Wedge.

Ion Torps

If this attack hits, the defender and each ship at Range 1 of it receives 1 ion token.

Same scenario, you hit Biggs, everyone becomes ionized, and then you slap Wedge with another plink from Ruth.

The biggest concern is making those hits hits stick, with one focus and not much synergy from other imperials.

This is why Corran Horn can't ever carry cluster missiles or take ruthlessness. Would be funny to try though. Or 2 assault missiles...

I used a Decimator & 4 Acad TIEs against the 4B1Z build. The Decimator had Ruthlessness and Navigator (and others) on it. It was surprisingly effective and landed many hits against the Bs, resulting in a modified win for me (along with some very luck defense rolls).

Jendon and Vessery will make any missile attack stick. Vessery focuses, Jendon TLs a target, gives it to Vessery. Jendon shoots targetl gains TL. Vessery fires assault missile, spends TL rolls dice, regains TL, uses TL on blanks, spends focus on hit.

Because the internet is convinced the Defender sucks.

Colonel Jendon (26)
Fire-Control System (2)
Weapons Engineer (3)
ST-321 (3)
Colonel Vessery (35)
Ruthlessness (3)
Cluster Missiles (4)
Tempest Squadron Pilot (21)
Proton Rockets (3)
Total: 100

The Defender is most excellent.

Okay , the way you initially wrote it made it sound like you were illegally triggering ruthlessness off the AOE resolution. Was Confused as all get out.

So if Rex puts a card down on a second person using ruthlessness, would he flip that one too?

I'd say no, as Rexlar's ability triggers on the defender, as part of the resolve attack steps.
