Hello Kingdom Hearts Community!
Kingdom Hearts TCG Set IV: Break of Dawn
will be here soon and so to herald the arrival of this awesome new set, we begin today our
Card of the Day Countdown
!
Break of Dawn
brings a lot of new and interesting mechanics to the
Kingdom Hearts
metagame, including new rules for Equipment, Techniques, Traits, and Forms, which we will look at over the coming weeks.
Break of Dawn also introduces a new card template. Don't worry: All of the new Break of Dawn cards are compatible with previous sets. Not only that - the new Break of Dawn cards will open up whole new vistas of deckbuilding opportunities.
Without any further ado, we present the Card of the Day :

Day 1
To kick things off, we asked
Kingdom Hearts
developer Rob Kouba what his favorite card in the set is. He answered: our Friend Auron. Auron combines a powerful mid- to late-game Aggro bump with a Graviga-like Friend-discarding ability. Auron
is
Aggro/Control!
Day 2
There were bound to be a number of
Kingdom Hearts
players who have been anxious since the release of Set I for some hint of Organization XIII. Just so the diehard OrgXIII fans don't have to suffer too much longer (of course you will still have to wait for Set IV's release), we present the
first
of the OrgXIII Player cards, Xaldin. Apart from Xaldin's Ansem- and Dark Riku-like ability to use Nobodies as Friends (Nobodies? What are Nobodies?) Xaldin also has his own "Soul Eater"-equivalent.
Day 3
As promised, we present Xaldin's Spear. Not only is it a fairly deadly piece of Equipment, it also represents a new option for Attack modifiers. That is, from Sets I-III, we had Attack cards that could be played directly from a player's hand and were fairly strong. With some of the new Equipment like Spear, we will see Attack modifiers that are slightly weaker on their own, but have the advantage of staying in play. In the case of Spear, it's one you probably don't want to see in play - unless you're Xaldin.
Day 4
We are proud to present, appearing for the first time in the
Kingdom Hearts
metagame, characters from Port Royal, starting with swordsman and swashbuckler, Will Turner. Will Turner is a cool addition to any deck in that he is a Level 2 Friend with +5 Support value - nice and strong for a low level and uncommon - but where Will Turner will really fit in is with his awesome search ability. Given the new direction for Equipment cards, Will Turner will be very useful indeed.
Day 5
At last we present our first preview of a Dark card from Set IV: Halloween Town's Lock. Lock represents another in the fine tradition of "search" cards, with the added advantage of being a fairly reasonably-sized Dark card that, with his boss Oogie Boogie, can put quite a bit of stall on any World card. The fact that Lock can also put Oogie Boogie on any level of World (subject to the World's Dark Limit, of course) means that stalling can get started much earlier in the game than before - a bonus to a variety of decks.
Day 6
Next up, we present another Dark card: the Sea Neon. This version of Sea Neon is an example of an older card slightly revamped. Its ability to keep Attack Cards out of play is the same as ever but the new ability to have
any
number of Sea Neons is pretty shiny, especially in combination with Sheltering Zone (
L&D
). At 4/11, Sea Neon is a pretty good stall and having multiples can really bog a racer down.
Day 7
Today we present at least one of the cards everybody's been waiting for, the Key of Destiny, the Mysterious Boy, the Nobody of Nobodies: Roxas! There is not too much that can be said about Roxas that isn't on his card, except that he starts with Equipment already in play. Beyond that, he is perhaps weaker as a Player Card than the other OrgXIII members. As a Friend, he's not bad, certainly a welcome addition to an OrgXIII deck.
Day 8
Today's Card of the Day is a brand-new Friend: Mulan. Mulan is comparable to Aladdin, in terms of low-level Support and Magic, but the real advantage (given a heavy life-gain deck) is the option to keep Mushu in play from turn to turn. Granted, spraying your Heart Points at the Dark is not necessarily a good idea every time, but Mushu does allow for a certain amount of
precision
: it's annoying being 1 away from a clear World and having to throw Oblivion or similar at it. If you've got the points to spare, the Mushu flamethrower may be good for you.
Day 9
Today's Card of the Day is the "give-the-people-what-they-want-card": The Flurry of Dancing Flames himself, Axel. Like any other member of Organization XIII, Axel can be used as both a Player and as a Friend, depending on the needs of your deck. If you like Fire (or Fira or Firaga), Axel is your man. Got it memorized?
