Michiel's Let's Discuss Builds: Jan Ors & Blue Squadron #1

By MichielR, in X-Wing

Hello again X-wing fans!

This week, as promised, the start of my second series. I will discuss full 100 point squad builds bi-weekly! The first build is one of my favorite builds: Jan Ors on the HWK-290 Moldy Crow copilot Kyle Katarn and armed with a Blaster Turret. She's covered by two Blue Squadron Pilots with Fire Control Systems and Heavy Laser Cannons. As I said.. next week will be a regular discussion video with a single ship, after that a full squad again and so on.

Let me know what you think, so far the response has been excellent and I'm thrilled to propel this channel into 2015 – which would not be where it is now without all of your help, feedback, sharing, likes and support! Thanks again!

See you all next week and as always: fly safe!

Just gave this a try against a Dash squad. Very impressive - it hits really hard. I've always been skeptical of Rebel small 3-ship builds, but this looks like a real contender.

Glad you liked it. I was skeptical as well, this convinced me that it is viable - it just needs a little creativity.

How you gonna counter a Whisper or just double decimators?

I just lost badly to double decis and Q remains - why choose a difficult list like you are suggesting when a Fat Han + Corran/Wedge/Tychu is SO much more versatile in terms of facing various opponents.

Yes your list has alot for boom factor, but facing a Whisper or anything slightly more tanky and mobile - like double decis and you are out.

Honestly I´m not impressed with the design - Again - it forces a Fat Han + zippy friend build.

It is boring to fly the same squad over and over again. It is fun to fly different interesting squads even if you lose.

Haven't seen Fat Hans around in our local store where we play. It is pretty boring squad to fly.

So it is nice to see squads with less used ships like HWK290

I like thematic ships like Jan Ors with Kyle Crew in a Moldy Crow for example.

Ran a similar squad at a 150p tournament. Jan Ors with SwarmTactics + 2x Blue with HLC FCS. Had Cracken with ST and Horton too. It was brutally effective as it destroyed 1-2 ships a turn. 1 if shooting at Firespray ;)

Might give this a try next time we play.

I got one problem though with your video and that was when you put cards too close in front of your camera like that.

I usually pick lists because they are different. Yes, I could go for a Fat Han and friends, and I'd be just fine.. but it's not what I want and it's not what a lot of people want these days. I want to try new things, use less used ships and try iconic combinations. While this list is not as all-round as a Fat Han and friends.. it will do just fine against most builds.. but as all builds in X-wing - it has its counters. And we should be thankful for that.

Thank you and I agree.

Sorry for the close-up. I suggest you don't watch it fullscreen, which is what most people seem to be doing these days with youtube. Unfortunately its the only way I can get it to focus without manually pre-focusing.

Thank you for the feedback though!
