Upgrade Card : Crew Member / Pilot swap..

By Bablo, in X-Wing

here is an interesting idea... i am not sure IF its been mentioned or thought of around here.

an upgrade card that allows Crew Member and Pilot swap...

Prerequisites are the crew member must have a pilot card version of him that allows him to pilot the vessel... and the pilot must have a crew-member card version of himself to be a crew member of the vessel.

Of the top of my head...

Pilot : Chewbacca

Crewmember: Lando

Vessel: Millenium Falcon

both have crewmember/pilot versions of themselves.

card text would read:

[Action]: Once per turn, if both pilots and crewmember has alternate cards being a crewmember or pilot on the same ship, they may swap places and suffer a stress token.

what do you guys think?

Not that many combinations that work for it.

So this card is limited to ships that have a crew slot, and to pilots that also have a crew card.

That leaves;

Han, Lando and Chewie on the Falcon.

Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors on the HWK.

No options on the Imperial side. Vader is the only one that has a pilot and crew card (right?), but the Advanced doesn't have a crew slot and there is no one to swap him with.

Also a action and a stress is a pretty steep price for this ability.

Could be great for a custom scenario but has very little effect in the current game.

Don't forget Leebo and Dash

I'm not sure how they value the point cost of pilots but we are essentially talking about paying for fat chewie and then tagging in fat Han for nothing but a stress token.

Agreed. It's an interesting idea, but unless you can only use the upgrade when you buy the most expensive pilot/crew combinations it would be unbalanced. I'm not sure of the practical applications either - is it worth paying additional points and giving up an upgrade slot and action just so you can switch Han out for Chewie mid-battle?

Game balance can be fine tune in terms of upgrade cost and effects...

Realistically speaking Han and Chewwie do swap places mid battle.

Currently, there are not much options for this... But this swap upgrade could open up and expand into an interesting gameplay in future....

This will probably be more favorable for the rebels... Imperials are too structured and rigid for this maneuver action

I could see this working if you discarded Han after the fact. This is what I'd want to see:

1. Takes up a crew slot

2. Discard Han after 1 use

Maybe a stress token as well but it might not be required.

I think that is more balanced.

I think the point cost will be the thing that gets everyone. People will just pick the combinations that cost the least then swap. They will be starting with the list Chewbacca (pilot) and Han Crew for 44 points then immediately swap to Han Pilot and Chewbacca Crew which is 50 points. It would just be a super charadan refit for Fat Han unless this upgrade cost a ridiculous amount of points like say 7 in order to be balanced.

Now I can see the idea of pilot swap say as a mechanic for ships docking inside large ships and swapping injured pilots for epic play but you have to find a way to keep it so that it trades down in points not up to keep it balanced.

It could work as a "at the start of the activation phase, discard this card to swap pilot and crew. At the end of combat, they swap back" (obviously word smithed for the game).

That way you can get 1 turn out of a PS9 Han with his reroll, but it's not a replacement for running him as a crew.

The question would become, if Chewy is your pilot and Han is your crew, you switch places for a turn, and then discard Chewy crew... what happens when you switch back? Do you become an ORS?

the probably if chewy as a crew member gets discarded... Hans stays as pilot all the way then...

I think this is cool, but stress may be too much, maybe just loss of action.

I also think this has far more potential in casual play than anyone has mentioned.

I would be willing to go as far as to swap pilots for crew even if they didn't have a pilot card for that ship.

Example, allowing Jan Ors (her pilot ability) to pilot the Millennium Falcon, and putting Han Solo in the copilot seat.

BOOM.

OMG so cool

Han Solo piloting a HWK-290 with Jan Ors as copilot.

Chewbacca piloting a YT-2400 with Leebo as copilot

Luke Skywalker piloting a B-wing/E2 with Keyan as copilot

Eaden Vrill piloting a YT-1300 with Han Solo as copilot
