Lt Blount explained

By Tiggyloo, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi all, just to end the discussions; how is Blount's pilot skill applied?

Does he always do damage due to the "always hit" term

or

does he only trigger upgrades which have the "when hit" trigger when all hit/crit results are canceled?

could not find him in the latest FAQ, or a final answer on the different forums so just to end all discussions about his ability; pleas tell me how I read his card.

Big thanks,

Francis

Being "hit" is defined on page 12 of the rulebook:

If there is at least one uncanceled or result remaining, the defender is considered hit...

That's the only condition. Damage doesn't factor into it - a ship can be hit without taking damage (an ally uses Draw Their Fire) or can take damage without being hit (Assault Missile, Vader).

Blount makes that always "hit", but does nothing to affect the damage. So if you would otherwise miss, he still is considered to have hit, but that's it. As you say, any effects that trigger on a hit will do so, but he doesn't get any free damage out of it.

Great answer, thats what I needed.

regards,

Francis

Lt. Blounts ability auto splashes Assault missiles, auto double ion with ion pulse missiles, and allows him to take down Stealth devices with ease.

and if the Z-95 had a crew slot, would make him pretty useless with Gunner.

His ability also makes Munitions Failsafe useless on him, so don't try it.

In addition to always double ioning with ion pulse missiles, he also always does a single damage with them, which is why they're my favorite ordinance on him.

Hey your right! never saw that before, trying it!!

Give him Deadeye if you want to get proper mileage out of him. He suffers since his PS 6 means hes often out of TL range against higher PS targets.

That's actually exactly how I ran him in the final round of the Imdur Alpha tournament :-)
