Advice on my tournament build

By canadiangamer22, in X-Wing

I'm heading to my second tournament this coming weekend, and I'd love some feedback on the list I'm planning on taking:

Biggs

Prototype + Chardaan Refit

Blue Squadran

99pts

I really like Biggs, and I'm hoping that the A-wings will help me out if I run into any Super-Dash lists. In limited experience playing against Dash, the best way to hurt him is to block him, which A-wings are able to do pretty well.

My one other idea is to switch the A-wings to Bandit Squadrans, and slap FCS on the blues. Thoughts?

Looks solid for a Rebel Swarm.

There are a number of tweaks you could make but I like the simplicity of your squad. Blocking Dash with the A's will be the key to getting shots on him with your slow movers.

With that in mind the only thing I would change is add R4-D6 to Biggs for insurance against the HLC Outrider.

If you're demoting to Bandit, you lose a level of blocking capability and the dexterity of the Prototypes.

However, you gain FCS or Advanced Sensors on your Bs.

You could also switch to Tala and get the FCS and a PS bid, losing 3 levels of blocking capability.

Now, how important are those levels of blocking capability? How often will you be intentionally blocking a level 1, 2, or 3 pilot in your local meta?

With that in mind the only thing I would change is add R4-D6 to Biggs for insurance against the HLC Outrider.

I disagree with this assessment. The chance for initiative will benefit you far more often than this thing will. Those are some very long odds, and you're adding a point to a ship designed as a casulty.

Interesting perspective and a you have made a valid point but I'd encourage you to consider the likely opponents in a new Wave 5 tournament and how R4-D6 has become more relevant.

1. I suspect it will be a lot of named 2400's and Decimators. Therefore you are looking at PS 3+ so Initiate bid is likely irrelevant for PS 1 Blockers. You may see Dash with AAZ and Decimators with AP support - in that case it will be handy - but you will likely have a 50/50 chance of Initiative anyway. Not having the initiative can actually be helpful against a Dash+AAZ as you can see where his AAZ's don't go to give Dash space to move - you then have a chance to Boost your A's and Roll your B's into that space.

2. HLC Outriders will be popular and Decimator + Phantom is a good build as well. These will be the common builds this squad struggles against. Super Dash with Tgt Lock + Focus and a named Phantom against Biggs has a fair chance of landing 4 Hits and pushing through 3-4 damage against him with his 2 Green. For 1 point Biggs can reduce this down to 2 Damage if he blanks his dice or only rolls 1 Evade. Another round alive is another round of no shooting at your B's.

As always though - there is no right answer and it comes down to individual preference. I've never been concerned with an Initiative bid unless your running PS9's. Sure - there are exceptions to this - but generally a Rebel swarm is concerned about firepower, survivability and blocking. This squad has it all and for my money - I'd put some insurance on Biggs.

Thanks for the advice! I think I'd definitely be up from trying out R4-D6, but I don't own him! I'll let you know what I end up going with and how I do!
