Creature Vault Question.

By thewm, in WFRP Rules Questions

We are new to the game and are a little confused with the cards. Is there a description of what the different stats and symbols on the creature cards?

Okay, so there's a picture from off of FFG's website.

*The skull in the top left is the Threat Rating of the creature. It is meant to show how strong/deadly the creature is. This number doesn't affect anything in actual gameplay.

*The blood spatter number in the top right is the number of wounds the creature has

*The stat block on the left is how many characteristic dice the creature has. Note that this Ungor has a white square with a 1 next to his Toughness, meaning he adds 1 Fortune die to any toughness checks he makes.

*The set of stats on the right represent, from top to bottom, baseline damage (this is the damage the creature makes before adding strength/agility, depending on what kind of attack it is using; if the ungor were using a basic melee attack his damage would be 8 [4 strength + 4 damage]), toughness (this is the creature's inherent soak value, and does not include the creature's toughness; this ungor would have a total soak value of 5 [4 toughness + 1 soak]), and defense (this is the number of misfortune dice added to actions that target the creature's defense, such as a basic melee attack).

*The little bolded written things are special abilities the creature has. These will also mention if a creature happens to be trained in a skill or not. Some of these are keywords that you have to look up/cross-reference with other cards. FFG has an errata/FAQ that includes some of the abilities that are not defined anywhere in the creature's vault. Here is a link (the relevant abilities are on pages 12-13): http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/wfrp/support/WFRP-ErrataFAQ-8-12-14.pdf

*The little puzzle piece beside the abilities represents the creature's permanent stance. This is how many of the creature's ability dice are converted to reckless/conservative when rolling abilities. Some creatures may have reckless AND conservative pieces, which means they use BOTH to replace characteristic dice.

*Aggression/Cunning/Expertise are how many of these points a creature provides to the GM to use for it during an encounter. The rules on using A/C/E are in the Player's Guide or core rules.

Thank you. This will help greatly.
