Millennium Falcon?

By Harlock999, in X-Wing

Hello, all.

First, let me apologize if my question has already been answered on these boards; I'm completely unfamiliar with this game and this X-Wing community. (I've hung out on the EotE board a bit though...)

Anyway, the holidays are upon us, and I figured it might be cool to dip into this game for gifts. However, I've noticed THE most iconic Star Wars starship is ... out of print? Yeah, the Millennium Falcon is going for outrageous prices online!

So my question is this: Will the Falcon ever come back as something available in stores (online and brick-and-mortar)? Or is it gone for good?

Because if it is indeed gone for good? Well, sheesh, I don't think anyone I know (including myself) will want this game for just the X-Wings and TIEs and whatnot...

Any info would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Short answer: Yes

Long answer: not sure when could be some time, the future, uncertain it is

They will reprint it.

They have stated many times that this game will not be "collectable."

I have no idea when this time will be.

"Yes," the Falcon will come back? Or, "yes," the Falcon is gone for good?

Sorry. I didn't phrase my question(s) properly. Ha.

Oh, cool. (I typed my response to Windu before seeing your post, ShakeZoola.)

They have reprinted wave 1, I am sure they are reprinting wave 2 and 3 as the hobby grows.

FFG's goal is for all ships to be available at all times. Unfortunately, their production can't keep up with demand, so there are shortages.

Most notable with, as you put it, 'the most iconic Star Wars Starship'. This has been especially true at the moment where Han Solo is running riot all over the meta.

Depending on where you live, you may be able to find it at a local store (Barnes & Noble often has good stock at retail prices, at least in the US).

I blame all those amazing modellers doing their incredible YT-1300 conversions/lightings/repaints.

Contributing to a global Falcon shortage! You know who you are!

Whoa now... I did my lighting conversion with just my one YT-1300. Yes, I bought a second one for the "during," but I've since sold that off to someone else getting into the game that couldn't find one for a reasonable price.

Whoa now... I did my lighting conversion with just my one YT-1300.

Oh sure you did... but what about the thousands of people who see how cool it looks, but maybe don't have the skills, so they thought 2, 3, 4 dozen YT's just trying to get it right???

Do think about them? The unskilled ones? Does that keep you up at night?

Yep, always try Barnes and Noble. (also nice avatar superdave.)

I am one of those unskilled ones... haven't you seen my work =P

I will definitely check out Barnes & Noble. (Didn't even think about that.) Appreciate the suggestion, everyone!

Also...

This might not be the right place for this question, but considering you welcoming folks are already aware of my situation and you are already aware I am a complete newb? Well, I would like to know if I ended up making a decent purchase (based on tastes and aesthetics, not on strategic smarts).

For a Christmas gift, I bought (1) the core set, (2) the YT-2400 (since I can't find the Falcon), and (3) a Lambda-class Imperial shuttle.

Can we create a decent game or set of scenarios with these components/miniatures? I mean, will the point values balance out with these 5 ships - 3 Imperials (the shuttle and 2 TIEs) vs. 2 Rebels (X-Wing and YT-2400)?

Thanks in advance!

longer question: why the heck does FFG make such weird business decisions. =(

Imperials are at a disadvantage. Lambdas are meant to be kinda cheap and don't turn around. Versus the YT2400 is expected to be one of hte best ships in the entire game. Lambdas tend to be 24 to 30 points. YT2400s go for 58. Yes, thats double.

Get the Imp player a Phantom $15 (and a Firespray $30 retail/ $20 online, but sold out/ for great cards if you can afford it). Then you have a fair game.

The Lambda is a great ship. One of my favorites, but this info is still worth considering: The Lambda has arguably the worst dial in the game (but still a viable ship, fly it from the opposite corner). The YT2400/Falcon has arguably the BEST dial in the whole entire game. The Lambda doesn't turn around and shoots forward only. The YTs shoot 360 and can sharp turn, slight turn, go fast, go slow and U-turn. The Lambda can lumber and stop.

longer question: why the heck does FFG make such weird business decisions. =(

More accurately, why aren't they better at predicting demand?

Blail Blerg, what if I add a TIE Advanced?

I just saw that one was available (along with a Y-Wing, my personal favorite) at Barnes & Noble's site...

And, yeah, Sithborg...

It seems FFG, during the holiday season, would have really ramped up production while also drumming up more interest in this game.

Oh well...

It's not that. Reprints are essentially a guessing game. How much to make and more importantly, when to make it. It is more art than science. And the apparent shipping issues they have been having hasn't been helping. The fact that supplies of new product tend to last a good while helps alleviate this problem. As the game goes forward, there will still be periods where certain products are not available.

Harlock999: The tie advanced is competitively considered the worst ship in the game. (And so some people run it for the challenge, but they don't get quite as far as one would hope.)

Stuff I said about the Lambda is somewhat true for the advanced, except it has even worse damage output.

You should totally get the Y though, its in renaissance. Also, the advanced will be a fun ship to have if you want it. No problem. But dont expect your

2 ties

lambda

advanced

vs

xwing

ywing

yt2400

to be even be close. Rebels will win that 105% of the time.

as i said, get a Phantom for good balance and good fun and good practice. Its a hard ship to learn but it will award you immensely.

Okay, thanks.

Hey, one final question: Where can I get a good starfield mat for use with this game?

Something somewhat durable, yet somewhat inexpensive would be ideal.

I bought a piece of fabric 3x4. Its been just fine.

Okay, thanks.

I bought a sheet of plywood and sanded it smooth.
