yup. there was resistience to the nerf because of cycle, and the nerf was handled the right way (to make you pay the full cost of the card OOH, absent a plot that allowed your opponet an OOH relief too)
[LCG] Bara Owns Targ?
I think I should be a little more clear, I think the plot along with Stark's and Greyjoy's is too powerful compared to Targaryen's, Lannister's, and Martell's. The first three are permanent removal, and the latter three are temporary solutions without some other additional effect(s). Baratheon's even compared to Stark's and Greyjoy's is over powered. That said losing a single strong chracter, even the best character I have on the table should not spell the end of the game for Targ. It just shouldn't. In LCG they lack the ability to create a Voltron styled ultimate character, Targ should be able to kill off enough of Bara's character via burn/stealth/deadly that losing that single character should be a blow but not one that can't be recovered from.
we are not saying it can;t be recovered from, we are just sayiung in a tournamnet we would not choose to build a deck that has an inheirient weakness (the force of that weakness is whats been debated though it is a lot bigger of a problem in LCG then it was in standard) that other decks don't have. Before you come back with stark and greyjoy. your deck is already built w/ characters getting killed or discarded in mind, and it does not double hurt you the way steal does. plus against stark and greyjoy your own fury evens things out a bit, in targ your oppnent steals a character and the best you can do is use your plot to burn them instead of one of his deck built characters.
The interesting thing about this argument is that there is a decent likelihood that I will play Targ in the LCG Joust at Gencon. What makes it interesting is that the Greyjoy Fury plot scares me much more than the Bara Fury plot. Maybe its because I expect to see alot of Greyjoy and not much Baratheon. Or maybe its because the thought of seeing a First turn Fury of the Kraken while my opponent has changed the season to Winter and is sitting with Wintertime Mauders with a Support of Harlaw on them scares the snot out of me. Sure, that would be quite the perfect setup for Greyjoy, but in that scenario I would lose once character to claim, one character to the plot, and likely two more cards.
Now, I'm not saying that I think Fury of the Kraken is stronger than the Fury of the Stag, I'm just saying as a Targ player, my two "ancient enemies" have Fury plots which really suck for me.
Yeah, honestly it is about even for me. If I face Bara I'm going to most likely see a two character swing if events are in his favor, my loss and his gain. Worst case scenario would be him winning by four for a Seductive Promise, discarding Edric, and me facing a a six character swing (I lose 3 he gains 3)... but If the Bara deck doesn't toss out a swarm of strength, that winning by four is going to be incredibly difficult as will be keeping Edric in play long enough to discard him with the burn Targ has.
With what I see being a very popular deck type is a Winter deck with Marauders, Support of Harlaw, and the repeat challenge event. Which is me loosing four characters. I do run one out of House card with some frequency in Greyjoy... Devious Intentions. Facing off against a Voltron Marauders could see me loosing six characters (two from the plot, four from Mauraders gifted with some Intimidate support).
I'm not sure how difficult it would be to pull off. Targ has some good attachment control, even mid-challenge, but you tend to only see one attachment discard in the challenge phase. You can see multiple burn effects in a challenge phase even in a deck not focused on it so if Targ can defend they run a very good chance of winning.
I expect that it is going to be more about build face-off and luck of the draw as much as it is about the power of any specific card or combo any of the three can field.
Can someone post an example of a competitive LCG Targ deck? I would like to test this out.
