New Lords of Nal Hutta preview, and release timeframe question

By the-hypnotoad, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Sam talked about Toydarian's immunity. Essientially, they mentioned force imunity in fluff and they gave them a high willpower. He explain they did this so the GM could play it any way they wanted; either make them completely immune like the droids, or just naturally resistant. So Dono, Yepes, and Dante are all correct.

As for Hutts, judging by the article, we might see two 3's and only one 1, with the Ponderous quality being enough of a detriment to not necessitate a second 1 in a characteristic.

I wouldn't be surprised if they kept Hutts at silhouette 1. They seem to use Silhouette not just as a size indicator but as a classification indicator. Also, Unlike many d20 games, there's no mechanical benefit to being a larger creature (since size isn't directly related to health, strength, or accuracy in this game). In fact, there's an implicit penalty in being sil 2. When attacking opponents size silhouette 0 (some droids, Toydarians, Drawl, and the like) the difficulty of your attack is increased by 1. Conversely, when a sil 0 opponent attacks you, their difficulty is decreased by 1* (oddly enough it does not specify a minimum. That may need to be clarified).

Hutts are already going to be gimped enough with the ponderous quality, best not to give them situational attack modifiers that are hard to keep up with as well.

*According to page 225 of Age of Rebellion - It was the book nearest to me.

In my group nobody is interested in playing a Hutt, for which I feel lucky.

How will you rule things like a Hutt fitting into the cockpit of a starship, a Hutt wearing armour (I guess it must be customised), and things like this?

Young hutts should fit easily in cockpits and customizing armour doesn't seem like such a big deal... I honestly don't feel why this should be problem since the game takes place in your imagination anyway...

There were Shell Hutts. Witness:

I was more asking if you as a GM would ask for a higher price for Hutts armours, or will you make them more difficult to obtain or similar, my question was more this than a question if Hutts cannot wear armour.

Regarding the cockpit...I find difficult to imagine how to fit a Hutt in a X-Wing or things like that but each one to his vision of the SW universe...

Oh, yeah — Hutt armor should be a lot more expensive. I would say at least ten times as expensive for the same type/class of armor as normal humanoids might wear.

But here’s another example of a Hutt wearing armor that I particularly like:

Oh, in an X-Wing? Yeah, that’s not gonna happen.

But in a specially modified YT-1300? Sure, no problem.

I wouldn't ask a higher price for hutt armor, no (but money isn't that big a deal among my players). It might take a while longer to make but that is fine by me.

Also you said starship, not starfighter so I figured you were talking about a freighter or what have you. I guess an X-wing might prove difficult, as would an A wing or Tie but that is about it and honestly if a player is playing a Hutt he might as well make the effort to find a ship to fit him or convert a ship of his choice so that it fit him. The only constraints (again) is your imagination.

But in reply to your (somewhat snarky looking, but maybe not meant in that way) comment "each one to his vision of the SW universe..." I would like to say that I as a GM like to facilitate my players in doing what they like to do with the available material. If that is my vision of SW then so be it, however it seems perfectly fitting with the way FFG is designing the game.
I guess my version of SW is the version where Hutts exist and are an integral part of the area where this game takes place and I am not afraid of thinking outside the box to be accomodating to my players and invite them to think along in how they would go about in playing a character that is allowed by the system.

If anything (eventhough comical) that picture shows that a young elephant would be able to fit in that car.

It looks like an overgrown prawn!

Not a bad intended comment. I have nothing to do or criticise regarding what people do at their tables, if they have fun playing RPGs that is great (and makes me happy)!

Sadly in these forums is far too easy to find disrespectful comments and cheap criticisms. I wonder if it is a matter of the spectrum of SW fans (I don't find this in the TOR forums for example, but there we are all rather old gamers).

I am not a Shrimp! I am a King Prawn!

I approve of the modular encounters. From the capsule descriptions, I'm already seeing some ideas I can file the serial numbers off of and shamelessly steal.

Yeah, I get the impression FFG understand most of us cut and change most adventure scenarios anyway, so they are giving us more bite-sized encounters we can tailor to our own needs.

Oddly enough, I found a mint copy of the Darkstryder Deluxe boxed set at a used bookshop this morning, a steal at twenty quid! While there's no way I can fit that entire campaign into my game as it stands, there's a LOT I can mine from it and use in different ways, before we even get started on the maps...

The modular encounters were probably my favorite part of Suns of Fortune, so I'm looking forward to these!

And a few sites out there are now listing a release date of January 28th. Not sure how accurate these dates have been in the past. (I feel like they haven't been very accurate.) But hopefully we'll see it before the end of this month!

Based on when it was "on the boat", it should be out by the end of January.

Well, just checked the Upcoming Page - still no news. However I did spot that FFG is republishing the board game Tigris & Euphrates - that's good news!

Upcoming updated to Shipping Now with a February 5th expected date. Just in time for my group to finish Beyond the Rim and find themselves further embroiled in the criminal underworld!

I am dancing for joy! I had a Saga Hutt character I've been dying to recreate and bring back into the universe! The Illustrious Norga the Hutt shall rise again!

*cue happy dance!*

This should be fun.

I'll be picking mine up on Feb 7th. Just in time to write my next adventure.

Woot off the boat...weee

Is it here yet?

Shipping. Left the boat.not in stores

Is Fly Casual on the same boat? I haven't seen a Fly Casual article since November 2014 but have seen 2 Lords of Nal Hutta articles.
