My question is simple, why is the YT-2400 priced less than the equivalent Firespray?

YT2400 > Firespray as YT has one more shield and one less Hull.

Firespray > YT-2400 if not upgraded on the YT, but the YT is a turret.

Firespray > YT-2400 by a small margin.

YT-2400 > Firespray by a long way.

It seems the YT may be a bit cheap or is that 1 attack die really worth that much?

2-dice primary. For all intents and purposes, you strip away everything to focus on the raw damage and it's a 30 point Tie Fighter.

Yes, a 1 die difference absolutely vital when 1 hull point is the difference between fully operation and dead (crits pending though hilariously unreliable). Not to mention, more hits --> less chance of a 0 damage attack after green dice.

If you want to truly compare the ships, it should be base cost firespray versus HLC + Title YT-2400 (just not Vrill).

Well the 1 attack die means everything while flying against high agility targets. And in the current meta that's very important.

I would fly 3 Bounty hunters anytime, while i see absolutely no chance for 3 Fringers. 9 attacks are acceptable, but 6 is 3 Tie fighters...

Yes, the firepower is that important. Especially when you are looking at the costs of the ships.

An attack die is worth about 7 points upgradewise. The YT-2400 may have a cheaper base cost but Firesprays get run often with just Recon Specialist. The YT-2400 is almost invariably upgraded.

3 dice is +1 die per shot rather than an upgrade that just adds a temporary hull

Going point for point with other generics, the Bounty Hunter is one of the most cost efficient ships in the game imo. A lot of people don't see that past the stat-line, but it in combination of solid dial with butt-arc make it an amazing 33 point investment in a faction with very few worthwhile ships in that point range (basically just character interceptors)

And TIE defenders.

Actually, I'd say its about equal.

Just because it doesn't fit your play style doesn't mean it's bad. There is a degree of experience needed to fly a Firespray to it's best, especially with a cannon. It's why I am real curious about Iggy.

The fire power of the Firespray still makes far stronger than the Fringer. Turret or no.

Look at it that way. For the 2400 ine attack die costs about 6 points with the inconvenience of not being able to shoot at range 1.

HLC + Outrider = 12 points!

We are then looking at a minimum of 42 points for a 4 AD YT-2400.

It's questionable if you don't run better with a naked Chewie then.

Vrill is interesting only because he can be playable at 32 points with the right support!

Nicely argued points guys. I sat and did some thinking last night and also dropped some combo's of Firesprays and YT-2400's on the play mat.

It would seem, that naked, in the basic form, they are almost identical in survival and damage output over time when pitted against one another.

This seems to then favor the YT-2400, the more you upgrade both to the same point totals.

Yes, pitted against one another perhaps since the former have more dice and the latter can arc-dodge while always shooting back.

But pit them against some Meta builds with phantoms, Soontir or even Tie Swarms. The YT will just not be able to score hits with 2AD while against hard to hit targets the Firesprays stand a better chance to inflict damage.

1 attack dice is pretty big. It is basically the difference between a TIE and an TIE Interceptor as well as a TIE Advanced and a TIE Defender.

The other big differences are #1- The 360 firing from the YT-2400 vs the front and rear arc on the Firespray. #2 Barrel Roll. Barrel Roll is huge on a big ship, even with its recent nerfing.

Stat wise the YT-2400 and the Firspray may seem very similar and I have seem them compared a lot but IMO you fly them very differently.

I could counter that argument that the ability to naturally barrel roll with the YT means a high chance of getting your turret into R1 of said nasty ships where the Firespray would not have a shot at all.

My overall conclusion (IMHO) is they are pretty much on par and you get a couple of points discount on the YT for "weakness" at R2-3.

I do agree that the barrel roll is a huge asset.

Also - upgrade slots are kind of a big deal. If we're talking meta, people don't run as much stuff naked as they used to so they should be taken into consideration.

Find me a 42pt Firespray build that is as good as a 42pt Wild Space Fringer (HLC + Outrider).

The turret, barrel roll, and the sharp 1 turn make a huge difference. Of course I still love Firesprays but when I want to play my Rebels it might be the ship I consider building the list around.

The imperial firespray always had an issue regarding cost efficient upgrades (especially the non-krassis pilot abilities being sort of headscratchers) while the Bounty Hunter remained a very solid ship just on its own or with recon thanks to back-arc, great stats, good dial, and very economical cost.

For the 42 point competition, you'd have to look over in S&V. Not sure what it would avail, though, since we're comparing cross-faction where the needs and options are wildly different.
