A Small Bit of Lore for IG-2000

By Budgernaut, in X-Wing

To those who haven't read Star Wars: Tales of the Bounty Hunters, I highly recommend it. I'm jumping around it now, re-reading each of the 5 stories in there that cover the 6 bounty hunters featured on the Executor's bridge in The Empire Strikes Back (Zuckuss and 4-LOM share a story).

I just finished IG-88's story, "Therefore I Am: The Tale of IG-88." Towards the end, there is a neat little dogfight between the IG-2000 and Slave I. It actually made me really excited for the Scum and Villainy ships (as if I wasn't excited enough). I wish I could write out the excerpt for you all, but I don't want to infringe on copyrights, so I'll just summarize it. For the full version, see pages 58-61 of "Tales of the Bounty Hunters."

IG-88C and IG-88D are waiting above Tatooine to ambush Boba Fett and steal Han Solo. It specifically mentions IG-88C being linked to IG-88D, just like you can do with the IG-2000 title.

Boba Fett arrives and obliterates IG-88C. IG-88D does an in-system hyperspace jump to get on Fett's tail. Fett dives into the atmosphere, increasing speed. IG-88D warns him that this tactic will not allow him to escape since IG-88 can go faster and take more Gs than Boba Fett. Fett slams on his Inertial Dampeners (called inertial damping system in the book), the "stress and power" of which wrecks his hyperdrive. This maneuver causes IG-88D to overshoot and go right in Fett's sights. Fett uses a tractor beam to draw the IG-2000 in and then unloads all of his concussion missiles to destroy IG-88D.

It's neat to see the inspiration for the IG-2000 title and Inertial Dampeners. It makes me very curious to see if we will get a tractor beam some day.

It feels like it is straight out of wave 6! I love where the designers have gone with the Scum and Villainy faction. It's fun to see so many parts of the lore I love being brought to the table top!

I remember back at school! The library would get in new Star Wars books and they were so sick of me asking each week that they would just tell me whenever I went in there.

This is good to know! Thanks. There are a lot of books and many sub-par. I also like to know about some of the people in the game that I don't really have a clue on. Seems cool to feature all of those people in a book and get their background stories.

I just reread that book recently and the IG-88 story did get me pumped for Wave 6.

I think the Boba Fett in that book is way better than the clone of Jango crap that was introduced in the Prequels.

That was a fun to know fact. Thanks for sharing!

Inertial Dampeners is based off of that exact scene. The card art matches too.

I think that was the first Star Wars book I ever read. IG-88 is awesome.

I think after that I read the Bounty Hunter Wars trilogy. Can't wait for wave 6!

Such a pity that the last part of that story makes me toss it out of what I consider canon...

The Bounty Hunter Wars trilogy was ... weird. I read the Thrawn trilogy first, then I read Tales of the Bounty Hunters, followed by the Bounty Hunter Wars. I enjoyed the Bounty Hunter Wars as freshman in high school about a decade and a half ago, but the only thing that stands out to me now is the spider Balancesheet. I don't remember the rest of it. What I do remember is that I like the character portrayals in Tales of the Bounty Hunters much better, which is why I've read it 3 or 4 times. I need to go back and read the Bounty Hunter Wars again.

Yeah, I do like the characterization of the Bounty Hunters in the Tales book. Some of the stories though...

Kud'ar Mub'at was an interesting creature. That book introduced Shell Hutts too I think. Mostly it was just more Boba Fett. :)

IG-88D survives and is really ticked off. He then fights Dash and possible survives.

In other stories I THINK they make it out that he didnt have as much control as he thought. If not they should, at the least no control over the main gunners station.

When you open that page he sort of leans forward like he slammed on the brakes.
