Recommendations on counter list

By LordBritish2, in X-Wing

So a buddy in my play group ran this list last night.

Captain Kagi (27)
Anti-Pursuit Lasers (2)

Scimitar Squadron Pilot (16)
Proton Torpedoes (4)

Captain Oicunn (42)

Total: 91

I am missing some of the upgrades but the big thing I am having trouble with is how do you get enough damage on these ships. Nothing I could think of was going to have enough damage output to really put a hurting on this build. Any suggestions?

Bump to see if anyone has any suggestions.

Since you have to TL Kagi, focus on him first. Without Engine Upgrade you should be able to out flank him.

The Scimitar will probably wait until your shields are down. Attack him only if you have the shot. After he fires his torpedo his 2 attack dice may he not be a big impact.

Oicunn, once you have the Lambda out of the way target him from different angles to minimize where he might go and lessen his chance of hitting you. focus fire.

That's just a first thought but... I'm sure more experienced players can give better advice.

This looks like a job for Rexlar Brath, backed by a TIE swarm.

On the rebel side, a swarm of cheap, low PS ships will tear these guys up. His squad has a whopping combined total of three evade dice, with giant ships that can't arc dodge, so your guns will hit.

Ok, that was what I was thinking but apparently I didn't go far enough. I had tried a 3 Dagger B-Wings with HLC and FCS and it just couldn't put out the damage. The new list I am looking at is 3 Rookies with R7s (for a reroll on his hits) and either 2 Prototype Pilots with the Refit or Biggs with either R5-P9 or R5-D8.

Seriously? 3 Daggers with HLCs should have melted the Decimator in 2 rounds at the most. Did you not focus fire on a single target?

Or they could have blown the Bomber to bits before it even got a chance to shoot that Torp. The dice must have been poor.

Yeah, I know that was what suppose to happen but it just didn't feel like it was going anywhere. It seemed completely over matched and the other guy had really hot dice that night and mine where average. To be fair, I haven't flown a lot of Bs so that may have been some of it but it just felt completely overmatched. Though I looked at the new squad some more I am thinking I do a wave of Z-95s with flanking by Tarn Mison with a R7 (which is just stupid).

The three B-wings should be handing out the pain like there was no tomorrow on that list.

Focus on the Decimator first. FCS does not require you to target Kagi so in two rounds the Deci should be toast.

Keep your squad close together.

The torp will be annoying, but will probably be need to be fired without a dice modifier.

The second round of shooting on any ship in your opponents squad will be facing 4 dice at all ranges with no defense modifies and they will be TL'd and Focused from each B.

I'd even consider downgrading from three HLC Daggers to two Blues and two Daggers if you have the ships, all with FCS if you have them. That's 32 HP for your opponent to chew through, throwing twelve red dice. You'll have the same total health, but more red dice, green dice, and action economy.

When I look at that list, I see that it's weak against high maneuvering ships. Any Phantom is going to be able to avoid their arcs. Soontir will also do well for you. Yes Oicunn shoots 360 but you should still be able to handle one shot a turn from him. Once you get behind Oicunn his ability isn't as good. So use the rocks to your advantage. Crits will also ruin this squads day. Etan looks good here. There's lots of options for you.

Here is your plan to beat it.

1. Shoot it with pew pew.

2. Win

3. thank me later.

His list isn't that impressive. However, hot dice can make all the difference!

When I look at the enemy list, I think an X-wing list would be perfect for it. There are only 3 enemy ships, so only 3 shots. The B-wings have low green dice and will suffer hits more. The X-wing has greater evade dice and greater mobility to get around things like the Shuttle. Also, if you go with defensive minded X-wings, you will do even better.

Luke Skywalker w/ R2-D2

Tarn w/ R7 astromech

Hobbie w/ R3-A2 and Flachette Torpedoes

Tala Squadron Z-95

The first two are pretty defensive. They will work well. Hobbie isn't necessarily defensive, but still cool. I had 2 pts left over and threw a Flachette Torp on him. If he fires this at a target, he can double stress him! That only left points for the Tala. You could always drop Hobbie for 3 Talas and an EPT on Luke or 2 Rookie X-wings

I have a preference for highly maneurable ships with high pilot skills. If I were to face that list, I would:

- Create a nice pack of asteroids near the center, each of them offset at range 1.5 from each other.

- Waste 1 or 2 turns to lure the lambda away from its starting point, which should make it easier to outmaneuver.

- Try to arc dodge the lambda afterwards and focus fire on the decimator.

- The tie bomber would have a hard time using that proton against my list and once the decimator goes down, Kagi becomes easy to outmaneuver.

That's just my 2 cents.

Phantom 5 tie will kill them.

2 phantoms + tie will also kill them

Etahn 2 B 1 Z will do the trick

FCS ships, shuttle, B. All have crazy damage output.

Vessery HLC 4 dice TL F.

Keyan HLC Opportunist Wes VI Biggs will kill them.

R2d2 to outlast them.

something with Ethan is also helpful as it lets ALL your ships crit easier!! ( one of my favorite offensive pilots to build around) I too am thinking up lists to counter the decimater!! If only the flippen advanced proton torpedoes and Ion torpedoes were not so expensive for a one shot punch!!!!

Do note that the TL from FCS is not affected by Kagi's ability, per FAQ. I would suggest keeping the list, taking down the Decimator first, and then winning as you can out-fly a shuttle (especially one without EU) and the Scimitar is not a dazzling ship on its own.
