We all have seen new trailers for Star Wars VII and we all can see that designs were tempered with. Will it have any impact on miniatures games? In 2015 there will be 3 miniatures games and a LCG based on SW universe. Will there be "revised cores" or "second editions"? If so, will the change apply only to miniatures or to statistics and cards as well? Will the old models become obsolete or will they stay tournament legal?
JJ ABRAMS AND NEW DESIGNS
That is of course assuming that the new films will be represented in this game about the original trilogy. Seeing how the prequel trilogy hasn't been included in the scope of the game as that is only civil war era I don't see why we should expect the sequel trilogy to show up?

Not to mention that we still haven't explored the full scope of the Civil War era. Sure we got every starfighter in the movies and are including some ships from the EU but we still don't have Epic scale ships for Imperials and the S&V ships have yet to be released. So I would say wait, it will probably be until the new trilogy comes out that we will see ships from the set.
I don't know if FFG will stick to EU or if they will also add new stuff from the new movies.
But if they do, i see no problem.
In WW2 the same plane models like the Spitfire or the Bf109 were constantly improved, and in the end looked more streamlined and a tad different! (Compare a MKII Spit to a MKXV or a 109E to a 109K) They stayed recognizable but elements of airframe, wings etc. changed.
I would say in the timeframe from the battle of Endor to the new trilogy, rebel Engineers have improved the X-Wing into a T-65B or MkII, or whatever you like, which is more than just logical. Designs have to be constantly improved especially during wartime, and this has been the case in our history especially for very successful designs in military aviation!
If FFG remakes them it could have improved performance in some spots or other options, thus also fixing the slight balancing issue the X-Wing has right now.
the only thing I see changes in was the X-wing.. The Falcon looks the same except it has a new dish, but it needed a new dish as the old one got ripped off attacking the second death star. Maybe the "NEW" x-wings represent a new variant of the X-wing? I like the looks but personally wish he had left them alone. Or made them look like they actually are variants of the old X wing. I think he took the design a bit to far. I was kind of thinking along the lines of most military aircraft using the F-4 as an example it had variants all the down from the F-4A down to F-4S... But they all still basically looked the same except for the nose that got extended on the Es & Gs and the internal canon, different ECM bumps and antennas etc.

But i do indeed think that the X-Wings from the trailer stay recognizable as such and could derive from the same "airframe" just like the WWII planes did...
Edited by ForceMHa that's funny ForceM and I have basically the same thoughts at the same time... O dark thirty in the morning.... using your aviator its like the Viper MK7...you can still tell it was a viper.. just a new version...
Edited by SwedgeJinks!!
We got to stop doing this people will start talking..lol
I honestly think that it would be good to, when the movies have been out for a bit, to use the new models and make an x-wing 2.0 - with the caveat that you can convert the old models. In this I would think that lowering some stats of older ships would be a better method than just giving new ships higher stats, as it would limit the power creep.
Of course, we don't yet know the capabilities of the new craft, so the new x-wings could be the same as the old, save for different slots. The new TIEs could have shields for all we know.
Edited by That Blasted SamophlangeI love the new x-wing design!
X-wings were sexy, but you know it was becoming somewhat dull. Like a high school crush you find on Facebook again and going, eh... she's (he) okay I guess.
But now... woa! after that trailer. Its like I meet someone in a bar looking somewhat like my high school crush but this one is what I want right now!
I hope FFG keeps on doing what they are doing and when the new movie hits put out X-wing 2.0, with old + new x-wings with different mark titles.
One mark has boost, the other gains a K3+K5 or has a built in deadeye or something....
Now you get different feels for the x-wings and can use old and new ones at the same time.

I think your analogy still stands. The new design is still unmistakably an X-wing as its general silhouette hasn't changed much, just its components.
As for the topic question I definitely don't mind seeing miniature versions of those swanky new X-wings and whatever JJ may have cooked up for this new trilogy. I think its a real possibility assuming that the movies are still set within the context of the Galactic Civil War era.

Of course it is, it's based on the original concept designs.

GCW has the T-65B, pretty sure the Endor X-wings are that. We're looking more at a T-65K.

The way the wing splits and the new cockpit orientation are a little too much to convey a sense of this is just a MKII X-wing. For me anyway. but I DO like the new looks better, just wish it had slightly better continuity with the older designs. like what they did in BSG with the new and older vipers... Cockpit orientation and the wing split are MAJOR design changes. But once again i am trying to apply logic to star wars when we all know the rule of cool trumps everything logical..lol

Ffg devs at gencon said the game was civil war and beyond, given that it seems the civil war never ended its not unreasonable to think New ships from the film will be added.
If they are different of course, if it's just a cosmetic change then they might not be added.

Shh I was gonna make a comment about how the sequel trilogy is to far in the future! And people complained about StealthXs, XJ Wings, and K-wings being to far in the future! (not that I want a K-wing)
Of course, it might not matter. LFL has forced content into games before (see Episode I content into the Decipher card game). I highly doubt LFL would change their licensing agreements that much to not allow them to get their licensors to get aboard their marketing strategy.
FFG CEO/Founder Christian Peterson has alluded to (in at least one interview) how the company avoids chasing the latest trends and fads for more long-term viable content. Not sure if its directly related to your question, but if you got an hour to listen to the interview- its some interesting stuff!
I'll be surprised if we don't see some of the new ships in X-Wing at some point.
Honestly, FFG would be making a huge mistake not adding in the new ships! We already have new paint schemes for some ships so adding a slightly different design is a no brainer. FFG is sitting atop a gold mine as the Star Wars marketing machine starts up for the new films. It would be foolish to not biggie back off of some of that marketing.
I really don't understand all the comments of " of they won't do those because it's a game set in the Galactic Civil War. " as one of the designers said this game focuses on the Galactic Civil War and going forward. What I ask would Episode VII be if not forward in the timeline ?
I do understand the update versions of ships, i mean look at ROTJ the Empire didn't just go away. I mean the Tie Fighters and X-Wings would most undoubtedly be updated to sleaker different designs.
I wonder if the Y-wings will be shown in the new trilogy and if so will those models be modified?
I'd not hold your breath y-wings were old and obsolete at the battle of yavin, only used because they were all the rebels could afford.
Thirty years on they'll have a more up to date bomber/heavy fighter.
