Mileage varies. I hate proxies with a passion and when its a game i own i flat out refuse too use options i don't have access to. Which is why i bought the CK and all the miniatures for it i could get my hands on - which was hella expensive.
More monster variety is good but as soon as you snag a big expansion and a hero and monster & collection (granted the quality in the last 1 and the next one to released are a little dubious, although not on the monster front so far) you have 7 new groups of monsters to play with plus 8 new heroes, 4 new classes and a new campaign.
I dont think the CK is a bad investment for someone who is looking to immediately expand options but the lack of minis and the selection available in 2ed has put me off it completely now.
Hero and Monster collections and descent 1 conversion
I finally got it, and I must say I am very impressed with the CK. I got the kit itself, all first edition minis (except the promo and dungeonquest heroes) and the descent 1st edition box for about 100 €, which I think was a very good price.
Since I already own everything else available, and it takes ages for new stuff to be released over here(there is still only one heroes and monster pack out), I think the money could have been spent worse
I already used some of the new heroes in forgotten souls, and I have to say I quite like some of them. One Fist for example is really cool, and has a very strong ability.
I´m excited to see the new monsters hit play in a campaign, even the more unbalanced ones.
