Hello,
Are they releasing the quest and rumors cards separate? I don't want to buy the expansions if its the same heroes and monsters I already have just for the quest and rumor cards. anyone know the answer?

The monsters and heroes in the H&M packs are also in the CK. However, some (not all) of them have updated stats. They all have new cards, and new minis. The quests are not sold separately.
EDIT: I have gotten rid of my copy of the CK. I now only include purely 2nd edition expansions in my Descent campaigns.

I am in the same situation as you. I have all the first ed figures and the CK pack so the Hero and Monster collections have less of an appeal for me. I do however want the rumor cards, reward cards, and quests to add to the rumor deck to make the possible side quests more interesting.
I ended up going on ebay and finding sellers who were selling just the rumor cards, reward cards, and quest insert from these Hero and Monster collections. I guess these sellers unpack these expansions and sell it's components individually to make more money than just selling the entire thing. They sold the figures and their cards as one unit, and the rumor, rewards, and quest sheet as another.

Same here. I sometimes think that the CK shouldn't have been made in the first place.
Do you really think the CK is that bad? I just got it on ebay after searching for months
I thought it will just provide more options to the players, or are there any problems with using the CK?
It is not "that bad", but it is unbalanced and comes with no figures. And furthermore, old minis have not the same scale.
So, H&M packs are way better, rebalanced, new figures and artwork, correc scale, AND quests. So, why not ?

I thought you would never say that

Since old minis are going to be fully remade, then, yes, I do.
I'm way more complicated than you could imagine.
Not that much.
And yeah, since they make most of the heroes and monsters, with balance and better mini, I don't see the point to use CK anymore too (for thoses who have it). The plus you've got from CK isn't that much anymore and is too much unbalanced.
"most" is not exact, some of the heroes, and around half of monsters.
If we exclude heroes/monsters who are almost unplayable because of how broken they are (in both way), I think we can say "most".
some of the remade heroes and monster are still broken, for example, Lindel or Giants
They are far less, but you've got a point.
Dunno why they don't nerfed him since they did nerf Mok.
Same here, but they should. He should at least have a brown die or -2hp
Mostly -1 speed + -1stamina. Having some hp/defense don't really protect him that much, if you wanna put him down, you will.
On the other hand, he is unstoppable...5speed/stamina is way too much for a guy who can't fail any normal test (or almost).
Edited by KyarnHe's not unstoppable, but he does have a distinct advantage. Most heroes have 11 points spread between their attributes- Lindel effectively has 16 (his roll is like he has a 4 for every attribute.) For comparison, Lindel has a 72% chance to pass every test he takes. Orkell, who also has 5 speed/stamina (but can be 6/6 with skirmisher, woohoo!) has 2,4,1,4, which is an average pass rate of 45%, with a standard deviation of about 30%.
Orkell has not access to Treasure hunter and has a brown defense die.
Orkell's power are less powerfull too.
Lindel can make an attack to hit for sure.

"Unstoppable" skirmisher skill makes missing a good thing (just like Lindel,) and it can be done for every attack. Lindel can do it just once per map. Also, a couple of the skirmisher's skills, as well as Orkell's heroic feat, hinge on being knocked out. It was a lot of fun going into battle looking forward to being knocked down.
I'm slightly off topic- I'm not disputing that Lindel is a powerful scout. However, he's still not my favorite scout in every situation- not by a long shot.
Edited by ZaltyreScouts typically have less useful or powerful combat oriented skills anyway, which makes their attacks slightly less valuable than a warriors. Consider the champion's level 3 ability which can do 20+ damage on one swing, for example. Reynhart the Worthy pretty much never misses either, and he's been around for a while as well.
Lindel is very good, but not spectacular. He also doesn't synergize with treasure hunter as well as our good pal Logan Lashley does.

Probably not. Those cards are the only new hook to attract people who already own 1E/CK and entice them to buy the new H&M kits. Assuming new sculpts and tweaked stats isn't enough, of course.

I think the CK still is very valuable if you don't want to spend a ton of money on descent right away. Nearly all of the monsters are fine and only 2 or 3 got slightly changed. The heroes are another story. Quite a few of them are inbalanced, so getting the CK for heroes isn't the best idea. It should be easy however to just not pick them.
I really don't get the negativity towards the CK. It's the cheapest way to get access to a ton of monsters that can be proxied very easily with the base-game miniatures.

Kobolds, the heroes, and the lack of miniatures are the main reasons for me. That, and I very much enjoy the 2nd edition descent monsters that aren't in the CK, and I don't want to invalidate more of them by optimizing the monsters even harder.

Do you consider the monsters released in the heroes&monster packs 2nd edition descent monsters? Because you get all of them in the CK.
I still don't see how the CK invalidates monsters, apart from maybe zombies or cave-spiders. The CK monsters aren't bigger and better versions of the "normal" monsters, but come with their own strengths and weaknesses and fit another niche.
If you really dislike the CK so much, what alternative do you recommend someone who wants to expand his monster-selection as cheap as possible? The H&M packs that come with the same monsters and heroes as the CK? but only a tiny fraction of them? Small box expansions come with 2 monstergroups and big box expansions aren't excactly a cheap thing.

To be honest, I haven't purchased any of those packs either.
If all you want is as many monsters as possible for the least amount of money, then yeah, CK is a good choice. However, I'd prefer to suggest just adding the box expansions, you get plenty of monsters and a lot of other additional content, and you'll want them eventually anyway.

I agree on your last part. You will want all the expansions in the end. However you have to spend 30-45$ to get any new monsters when you buy the box expansions only and you will only get 2 or 4 monsters this way. If you want a handfull of monsters (enough to broaden your monster selection in single encounters by more than 2) the CK is still by far the cheapest way to do so.
If you are not sure you want to go all in on Descent but quite like it, the CK is an excellent way to add much variety to the base game and enhance the expirience a lot.
