Help with a Lightsaber Blaster Deflection Build

By SemperSarge, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to build an awesome Lightsaber Blaster Deflection build and was wondering if it was possible with the rules we currently have? If so, what would the build look like and how would it work? The PC's may witness it in action, and if possible, I'd like to have an explanation and mechanic on hand so we're doing it correctly. Thanks in advance! -Jay

Force and Destiny has a Reflect talent.

There's really no 'Uber Jedi' deflection go-to talent. Nothing you can install a spam button on and send blaster rounds flying back where they came from.

You burn strain like crazy just cutting down the damage with Reflect.

Put together a build with heavy Willpower, build a Lightsaber that lets you regain Strain with Force Abilities, and go for Reflect and Talents that allow you regain Strain outside of combat. I believe there is something along the lines of 'Meditation' or the like in one of the Force talent trees.

EDIT:
If you are going to run a Reflect Tank, designate all Advantage into regaining Strain. I ran a pretty heavy hitter that burned Reflect hard. Never Crit with him, but I made it through a large encounter and never went down.

Pretty much what serif said. Beef up strain and stack multiple ranks of reflect and tack improved reflect for good measure.

Though I think a strict interpretation of the rules allows NPCs to ignore the strain cost.

FYI, out of turn incidental, burn 3 strain and reduce damage by 2+ranks.

Also, because of how Reflect works, push your Soak as high as possible to get the most out of it. Remember too that Reflect will not stop even the lightest of planetary scale weapons from laying you on your butt, so don't try to stare down a strafing TIE.

...so don't try to stare down a strafing TIE.

Or an AT-ST.

Some GM's are cruel. Like me.

Some are evil. Like Ghostofman.

If you do want to "send blaster rounds flying back where they came from," there's always the Improved Reflect talent.

Also on the strain sink issue, don't forget Supreme Reflect. If you focus on defense (that is, don't make any combat checks) for a round, you can activate Reflect that round for only 1 strain instead of 3.
