Carrying Around Your X-Wings
A guy on the Dreadball Extreme KS comments said that he's given up on bags and is trying to figure out how to attach a shoulder strap to his house.
In all seriousness, I use a Battlefoam Sword bag. I planned my foam out so that all of my trays are either accessories, Imperial, or Rebel. That way, when I outgrow it (as I just did, new one on order now) I can split them into two bags and have one Rebel bag and one Imperial bag. Of course, that was before Wave 6 decided to be a third faction.
Edited by Audio WeaselI use the big bag from KR Multicase, that holds to of their standard boxes. One box per faction at present - will be a problem when the Scum arrive - do I mix them up, or get a third box?.
Cards in binders for a pleasant browsing experience.
I may have a slight foam addiction. So far, a case for Rebels, another for Rebel epic ships, and another for Empire. I'll be adding another for Scum and Villainy. Got room for wave 5, and a few more rebel small ships. After that, it'll be yet more boxes...
I just use a 1/2 size hardcore for taking what I actually need when travelling though.
I use a Plano 1374 (http://www.amazon.com/Plano-1374-4-By-System-Tackle/dp/B000E3FKTO)
Yes it's big but I wanted to be able to grow into it as my collection grows.
That's not big. THIS is big:
http://www.amazon.com/Plano-732-Extreme-Tackle-System/dp/B009JG53S0
I have at least two of everything save the Tantive, and 7 or 8 of some small ships, and I can fit everything in there. Scum and Villainy will probably see end of life for it though.
Like many others, I have mine in the Plano 1374. I already had two of those for Warhammer Fantasy, but having put down that unbalanced game, I've repurposed the cases. I started off with just 2 plano cases in an old laptop bag. It worked great and was good to start with. Once I got more, though, I needed more room. I love the Plano 1374 b/c I can carry just that around. I don't need anything else.
I hold my Tantive in the top in the original plastic (though it is cut down a little bit). The top also holds my rules and FAQ's printed out and my cardboard box that holds my cards (from the local event). The trays are great for holding all the ships on the pegs.
One tray holds:
6 Tie Fighters
2 Tie Advanced
2 Tie Interceptors
1 Tie Bomber
1 Tie Defender
All their dials
Another holds:
4 X-wings
1 Y-wing
2 B-wings
2 A-wings
1 HWK
1 E-wing
All the dials
Third holds:
All my templates and asteroids
all my cardboard tokens.
Last holds:
Lamda Shuttle
Falcon
Slave 1
tokens for Tantive IV
room to grow!
I store all my ships on the pegs and they are easy to take out. I store my dials around in different slots for different ships for easy finding. I've got room for expansion.
I bought mine at a local Wal-mart or sports store for not much. No shipping. Got it for under $30.
I have Sabot foam storage and know lots of people with Battlefoam. Those options are just too expensive. Each game costs so much for all that foam. The Plano works and works well. I don't know why people choose anything else. Maybe if you are flying with your minis?
Does the plano 1374 have room for medium ships, i have a falcon, outrider, decimator and 3 slave ones to bring too...

I don't have an outrider, but the Falcon, Slave One, and Shuttle all fit in the normal trays. I used to put mine in top, until I got the Tantive IV and I saw a picture of someone fitting theirs into the normal trays. I've put mine in the trays.
On the Plano.....they always seem to have different versions of the trays. Some of them you cannot change the size or anything. Others are at a diagnol. There are some that have half of it open and half in rows. If you look at a store that sells numerous Planos (like a place that sells fishing products) then you can kind of open them all up and swap them around. Well, as long as the sales staff aren't looking....
I swear, the amount of times this comes up on forums, I need to post pics online to just show.

That's nice looking but 90$ seems a bit high.

Can you post a picture of how you got big ships into the trays because I can't do it in mine.

I can, but it won't be for a day or two. I won't have much of a spare moment until tomorrow after work.
Are you not able to get the ships in due to them being too tall to shut the lid? Or is it that there are plastic pre-installed trays that it won't fit? Plano makes a bunch of different trays and it can be aggrevating to get ones that are right. I've had some that have the 3-4 plastic walls in them and you get to add in the little dividers. I've had others where you only get diagnol dividers (but I had spare other ones). There are some that have a few rows of regular inserts, but then some open areas towards the front. Those are the ones I use. I'll have to take pictures to really make sense of it.
OK....I looked online to see what I can find. Work internet is hella slow, so I'm not finding all that I can. Here is an example of one tray that I have. The top two rows are set right-left (horizontally) and you can put the little inserts to make thet section as big as you want. The front section is wide open and you can put in the big inserts to make different sections. That's where I put my bigger ships.

I know that different trays come in different kits. Plano makes a whole different variety of trays. If you are looking at getting a Plano, I would recommend going to a Sports or Outdoors store and go to the fishing section. Wal-mart has Plano, but not a good selection. Look at them all and....well....swap the trays out of the different kits for what you want. If you just start pulling them out and comparing them, you can always play dumb as to which went where when you put them back together again. If you already bought your Plano, then you can always get the trays you want. I'm sure Plano has a website and you can order from it. You can probably order it from the local store to avoid shipping, too.
From what I've found foam is nice.....but incredibly expensive. For a fraction of the investment, you can get a really nice kit that works just as nice, if not better in some regards. If you are flying or you put your minis in the back of a pickup truck, you don't need the foam for extra protection.
There is a Plano box thatis basically 2 of the red ones posted all over this thread slapped together back to back. I have not had any damage to my ships from flipping the box over either. I have rebels one side and Imperials on the other and about 30 ships for each with room to grow. Only ship that isn't fitting is my decimator on account of my 2 shuttles and 2firesprays taking up the larger space in the tray. I already ordered a red plano box in anticipation of Scum and Villainy.
Why go with 2 red ones when you can just get the bigger 1374?

Plano also makes another box that same size that's basically four equal rows (without the large bottom bins this one has) that's ideal for storing the small fighters like TIEs and such.
Yes. Those are the ones that are perfect for the snub nosed fighters to get through the shield around the space station and deliver a fatal blow through the thermal.......I mean perfect to store the snub nosed fighters. I can't recall which trays came with the 1374, though, as I've bought a few of their cases and trays through the years. When someone stated that they couldn't fit their big ships in, the only way I could think of how they couldn't was if they had the 4 equal rows. I've found that I like two with the 4 rows and two with the bigger sections.
I started with Plano and it works very well. Some of the large ships moved too much for me so you'd have to cut the plastic.
I ended up going with Battle Foam, very pricey but equally nice. I'm opting for a custom layers. I get better storage than their pre-made designs I think. Since I carry enough for both sides for an epic game it works well. The removable try are also nice for counters, etc...
I use plano boxes but put them all in a large duffel bag. My collection is just too large for most of the hard cases. The duffel has room for all 6 boxes, plus the medium ships in their clam shells, and pockets for the 3 ring binder and other stuff.
Should have enough room in it for the next couple waves.
In theory can fit the epic ships in as well, but I don't like to transport them if I don't need to.

My 1374 has the kind with two normal rows and two large rows. However, I wasn't able to get the big ships into one of the large rows with the divider in it. Maybe the Slave I would fit but not the Shuttle or MF, which are too wide.
Finally got pictures.

New and proud owner of a red Plano box. Fits everything in, comfortably well. Next goal is to figure out if I should go the Tie Defender route (with two Tie-Ds) or a A/X/Y route for my primary game flight. ![]()
I use Plano trays and keep them in a cheap red duffel from Wal-Mart. I have six trays all together, two for each faction, one for tokens, dice and templates, and one for the GR75 and the Epic scale extras. The Corvette lives in a shoebox I found that fits it perfectly, and they all fit nicely in the duffel, along with the two binders of ship cards and rules, and one binder of upgrade cards. I was even able to rearrange things to fit the YT-2400 and the VT-19. I'll have to get another tray when Wave 6 hits, though.
Finally got pictures.
Talk to me about those space themed maneuvering templates
I'm going to be investing in Battlefoam soon. Maybe this weekend. Need some time to sit and measure the actual dimensions of the ships so I know exactly what can be double-stacked in what depth of foam etc. I think I could fit my entire collection + my "want" list (total of 50 ships) into their Spartan bag, with room for templates, dials etc. too, but I will probably get something the next size up for future proofing.
Is it way more expensive than a Plano box? Yes... but...
Does it look better, safer and superior to a Plano box to hold my hundreds of £s worth of ships? Definitely.
Plano 732 for a large collection.
I have a very large collection, at least two of everything and it all fits with ease in this. It's a bit large but it's nice to have everything with me.
Also ultra-pro binders are great for storing cards. The four card per page, side loading variety are the best.
