Wedge vs Corran - supporting a Super-Han

By Kepler, in X-Wing

Who does the most damage per round? Obviously Corran with his double-tap + TL (from FCS), or is there something to be said for Wedge pilot ability (-1 defense die)?

Anyone got stats on it?

Cheers,

Assuming that there is a target available to shoot every round, Wedge should do more damage. Corran is going to have better burst damage using his double-tap.

The more important question is which one will do more damage over an entire game, and the answer is Corran. Wedge hits hard, but his lower durability and lack of maneuvering or defensive actions ensure that he dies very quickly without Biggs/a wall of meatshield z-95s/etc around to protect him. Corran is likely to survive longer and get to shoot more times in this kind of list.

Then your Wedge or Corran takes an Injured Pilot crit. It happened to my opponent over the weekend :P

Corran is the best monster-buddy in the game imo. Han, Chewie, Lando, Dash, Leebo. He works amazingly well with all of them. The addition of wave 5 opponents just makes this even more true. Yesterday I had Corran solo an un-damaged loaded Chiraneau. Rebel captive, engine, predator. Corran had full shields at the end I believe. Wedge would have almost certainly lost that matchup.

You have it the wrong way round, Han is actually support for Corran. Han's purpose is to keep some shots off Corran and shoot/strip tokens off whatever Corran is going to shoot. Your task is to take a ship off the table every time you shoot, so Han and maybe Corran's 2 shots per turn (one if you are lucky). The target is always the ship that Corran is facing, Han then shoots that ship, as it maximises the number of shots going into it.

Corran is better hands down. Wedge is just too hard to protect in a two ship build.

Shhh don't give away the Corran secrets!

Corran's got the stats and upgrade potential to stay alive in a 2 ship squad

Wedge is a beast, but without an escort he's going to be focused down like the light-saber crossguard in the force awakens trailer

What are good EPTs for Corran?

Also, which droid?

Ptl r2d2 FCS is very common. If you have the points engine or a shield make it quite a bit meaner.

PTL + R2 astromech works wonders on Ewings, simply because that extra evade token per turn really really helps keep it alive for a lot longer. If you wanted to go further, you could slap on engine upgrade, and it is now a TIEint.

regenerative droids like R2D2 and R5P9 are pretty good as well, but I'd prefer a preventive solution rather than a cure solution

R7 astromech + FCS seems to be the way Ewings were designed to be played, especially the mook Ewings. putting this 4pt combination on say a Knave makes it frustratingly difficult to kill without a concerted effort, for 31 points, which isnt too bad

Corran nearly always must have FCS, it is the easiest way to benefit from his ability. Eating A Boat, I generally fly him naked.

I love the combo Han/Wedge, it's too fun to play with this, too offensive squad, and it gives me a lot of victories and of course to much fun, I offen use Han/Corran, but I prefer for much, wedge, greettings.

So:

Corran - PTL, R2-D2 + FCS

Han - 3-peo, Falcon, Gunner & VI

100 pts.

What about gunner on the falcon - isn´t it essentially a bit excessive with the Han-reroll? Guess it´s either that for more offensive capability or EU for more defensive maneuvering?

Han's reroll helps get rid of bad rolls but doesn't help as much when facing targets with high agility and tokens to spend. Gunner helps you with those harder to hit ships. If you end up playing against a lot of low agility ships, Gunner will probably be overkill and feel like wasted points.

It depends on the Corran. If Corran has vets instincts then you need a tanky Han. If Corran is more tanky and ps8 then you need a gunner/Luke Han to pop Fel and Whisper.
