Vrill it work?

By Ziusdra, in X-Wing

You kind of have to spend the extra points to get Vrill to work. But I think this might do the trick:

Eaden Vrill (32)

  • Recon Spec (3)
  • Tactical Jammer (1) (you can omit this if you want the bid for initiative--I don't see it being super useful, but you never know)

Jan Ors (25)

  • Predator (3)
  • Ion Cannon Turret (5)
  • Tactician (2)

Tarn Mison (23)

  • R3-A2 (2)
  • Engine Upgrade (4)

In a nutshell: everyone attacks before Eaden. Do whatever you can to keep Jan stress-free so that you can use her ability to give +1 attack dice to Tarn or Eaden (whoever needs it--it'll most often be Eaden, since he has 360). Make sure to make use of Tactician and R3-A2 as often as possible so that Eaden gets his 3 dice (4 at range 1, 5 at range 1 + Jan's ability).

Alternatively; drop Tactical Jammer, and replace Tarn with Biggs+R3-A2+Hull Upgrade.

I disagree, you need R3 to last longer than Biggs will. However, I'd never put an ion weapon into a 3 ship list, as you need more damage output. I would try Wes with VI and R3A2 and a Hull Upgrade next to Biggs.

What about substituting Hobbie with StressBot?

VI is great on Wes when he's paired with Wedge, Wes strips tokens, and Wedge goes for the kill. But when Wes is already shooting ahead of anything else in your list, the X-Wing's lack of Boost/Barrel Roll means that it isn't going to be able to react to the higher PS ships' final positions. In that case, VI isn't really doing much for you.

How about this, drawing together the various ideas from this thread:

ADVANCED BASICS (98 POINTS)

Wes Janson (29)
R3-A2 (2)
Biggs Darklighter (25)
R2-F2 (3)
Experimental Interface (3)
Eaden Vrill (32)
Recon Specialist (3)
Tactical Jammer (1)
Total: 98

Dude, use Hobbie with stressbot. He's practically designed for it!

You could try Nera with flechette torps or any B-wings carrying tactician. Nera with flechette and tactician might make her too much of a points hog though.

And I agree that Hobbie is the X-wing to use with R3-A2.

Eaden Vrill (32)
Recon Specialist (3)

Jan Ors (25)
Squad Leader (2)
Blaster Turret (4)
Kyle Katarn (3)
Moldy Crow (3)

"Hobbie" Klivian (25)
R3-A2 (2)

Total: 99

Keep Jan out of the fight for as long as you can so she can build up the focus tokens and use squad leader to help Vrill with a TL or BR of give Hobbie a focus. only trouble is she will be a huge target giving out that much support

Yay Mr Corellian agrees with me.

Wait. Are you a clone of me, or am I a clone of you?

Or, are you my father?

I disagree. Wes/VI/stressbot is the ultimate defense against phantoms. Just move slow and keep your arcs wide. Turns off ACD and makes Whisper less likely to get her free focus because she can't focus get attack.

That's my favorite Jan build. I've even made due without Moldy Crow but it's nice to have so you can modify her attack.

This seems like a good set up for Vrill.
